THE BLOB Is Being Remade, And Has A Director!!

Simon West (THE EXPENDABLES 2, CON AIR, THE GENERAL’S DAUGHTER, THE MECHANIC redux) looks to be helming a remake of THE BLOB.

Steve McQueen starred in the 1958 progenitor picture, which also featured Aneta Corsaut (who would later portray sexy/hot school teacher - and Sheriff Taylor's girlfriend - Helen Crump on THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW).  The film spawned a 1972 follow-up called BEWARE! THE BLOB (directed by Larry Hagman of DALLAS and I DREAM OF GENIE fame).

In 1988, Chuck Russell (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS, ERASER, THE SCORPION KING) realized a considerably more respectable revisitation of the concept.  It didn’t exactly set the world on fire, but as an action/suspense piece it worked rather nicely on its own merits.  Frank Darabont was a scripter on that one…

West says, “With modern CGI we can now fully  realize the potential of The Blob. The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It’s a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans.”

…per THIS piece at Deadline.

I tripple dog dare West to incorporate the theme song from the 1958 version…

No word yet on when this new BLOB will ooze across screens, but stay tuned…
