UNCHARTED: THE MOVIE gets some Oscar-caliber writing talent!

Last we heard regarding Sony's UNCHARTED, the studio had slotted a June 2016 release date for the long-in-development video game adaptation, despite having no leading man in place.

Well, Sony and director Seth Gordon still don't have a Nathan Drake, but they do have something undeniably formidable going for them: script work by Oscar-winning screenwriter Mark Boal.

The HURT LOCKER/ZERO DARK THIRTY scribe has been brought on to work on the previous draft by David Guggenheim (SAFE HOUSE). Boal is apparently a fan of the game series, and will spice up the story that involves Drake's search for the legendary city of El Dorado. I'd expect some tough dialogue and some scenes of quiet tension to make their way in there as well.

An key note of THR's report: the studio recently offered the role of Nathan Drake to Star Lord himself, Chris Pratt, who turned them down (ostensibly because he doesn't want to play scrappy, wisecracking action-adventure leads his whole life). So now the hunt is on for the guy who will bring this massive Sony IP to the big screen.

The UNCHARTEDs already play like movies, so what do you fans of the series think of a Boal-scripted Drake adventure? Would an UNCHARTED saga in the vein of HURT LOCKER and ZERO DARK THIRTY be the way to go on this franchise, or should they be embracing the cartoonish, INDIANA JONES-ish aspects of the series?

UNCHARTED is (probably) coming out on June 10th, 2016.
