So when are we going to see the first stand-alone BATFLECK film and what might it be titled!?!

Hey Yo, Draven here.

When DC’s rumored upcoming slate was revealed last week, a lot of people were surprised by the lack of a stand-alone Batman flick. He is after all, the prized possession for both DC and Warner Brothers. Well fear not, as our buddy El Mayimbe over at Latino-Review has revealed that WB and DC are indeed planning a standalone Batman film starring Ben Affleck and their target right now is 2019 with the working title of THE BATMAN.

WB knows that following up Christopher Nolan’s beloved DARK KNIGHT trilogy is going to be a challenge any way they decide to approach it. By introducing a new Batman in a multi-superhero film like BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN and then JUSTICE LEAGUE though, there will be enough comic book elements that will hopefully make it feel far removed from Nolan’s Bat films. Then, they will give us a standalone Batman film that already has the hero and tone established and hopefully enough so, that it won’t be compared to Nolan’s films at every turn.

I don’t know if this strategy will work as it is unprecedented, but it certainly seems like a much better idea than simply rebooting the character (ask Sony how that went with Spider-Man), and hoping audiences won’t compare it to the beloved incarnation that came before it.

One more thing to consider, this is reportedly WB’s very early plan. They don’t have a writer or director attached yet, so plans are very much still up in the air and likely to change.
