What is going to be the title of the BATMAN/SUPERMAN film that is coming in 2015? David S. Goyer gives us some hints! Plus, video of the Comic-Con announcement!!

Hey Yo, Draven here.

When the news dropped Saturday afternoon that Warner Bros was going to be developing a Batman/Superman film, this opened up a lot of questions that are still unanswered. One of the most obvious ones was, what is it going to be titled? THE WORLD’S FINEST, MAN OF STEEL 2, or some have even suggested THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. Well screenwriter, David S. Goyer spoke to Comicbook.com and said this,

So over in Hall H at the Warner Bros., I guess most people know now, at the end of the Warner Bros. panel Zack came out and he brought Harry Lennix, who plays General Swanwick in Man of Steel and we –- actually, Harry read a bit from [The Dark Knight Returns] and so the next film we’re making, we’re already in pre-production, comes out in summer of 2015. We’re actually not sure whether the title is Superman vs. Batman or Batman vs. Superman but yes, it’s –- that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening.

Then, /Film looked into the websites that Warner Bros has registered and it looks like they own SupermanVsBatman.com, BatmanVsSuperman.com and BatmanVsSupermanMovie.com. WB does not own SupermanVsBatmanMovie.com though, so /Film makes the logical jump that this Batman/Superman film will likely be titled BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN. It is interesting to note, that when WB attempted to get a Wolfgang Petersen directed, Batman/Superman film off the ground during the early part of the last decade, it was titled BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN. I don’t know if these websites are still owned because of that or if these were recently registered.

BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN seems to be the logical choice as WB wants to avoid calling it, WORLD’S FINEST, or anything that doesn’t directly reference Batman and Superman. Another possibility might be THE DARK KNIGHT VS. THE MAN OF STEEL. That is a lot of words to get on promo material though, and having The Dark Knight in the title might tie it too closely to Nolan’s Bat Trilogy.

We still don’t know who is going to be playing Batman, and with the film shooting early next year to make its planned summer 2015 release date, we should have an announcement soon. The rumors are that WB is looking for a relatively unknown actor in their early 30’s. Nothing confirmed yet, but who do you guys want to see pick up the cowl next?

And finally, here is video of director Zack Snyder’s Comic-Con announcement:
