Michael Bay On TRANS4MERS??

Merrick here...

Over the past few days there've been indications that Michael Bay was on-board to return to direct (at least) a fourth film in the TRANSFORMERS installment.  This would supposedly happen after Bay is finished making PAIN AND GAIN - a twisted revenge pic (possibly starring Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg)  in which the victim of a brutal kidnapping turns on those who assaulted him.

In response, Bay posted this quick update about his participation in more TRANSFORMERS pics over in his ShootForTheEdit forums...

Studios are passing rumors but I'm not sure what I'm doing? I know I'm going to do Pain and Gain early spring but that's it for right now. I'm leaving all my options on the table. I've got several Studio meetings in the next two weeks.

The news that Bay would return to TRANSFORMERS came from THIS piece at Vulture, which indicated that talks are underway but a formal deal has yet to be closed.  Leaving us to wonder if Bay's stated "uncertainty" is a negotiating tactic more than straight-up statement?

All of this dovetails with Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner's comments back in October, in which he stated that his company was, indeed, in discussions with the current TRANSFORMERS team about developing further movies.

There have been whispers that two more TRANSFORMERS movies would be shot simultaneously - not just one.  Consider this as a talking point only, however, as indications about this are sketchy-to-tenuous at best.

TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, the most recent entry in the film series, made over a billion dollars (literally) in the global marketplace.
