More BILL & TED 3 Talk - This Time From Alex Winter!!
Merrick here...
Over the weekend, the New Beverly in L.A. held a screening of the BILL & TED movies. Alex Winter was in attendance and fielded a few questions from the crowd. Inevitably, the subject turned to that third B&T adventure we've been hearing about.
Here's a report from an AICN reader called Filmmaven...
Hi all,
The New Beverly in LA had a most excellent double feature last night, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey.
Last night, Alex Winter was in attendance to intro both films and had a Q&A in between them.
The double feature was a sell out.
He had some interesting and amusing stories to tell.
How he and Keanu were sober for maybe a few days of the shoot during Excellent Adventure.
How he nearly killed Tony Cox, one of the Stations, in Bogus Journey.
How his popularity sky rocketed overnight.
The experience of bringing his son to Raging Waters in San Dimas, without even thinking about the reaction it would get.
How they shot in Rome because Dino DeLaurentiis owns Rome.
A little kid asked if there would be a third adventure.
He was amused that it was a child that asked that question.
He said that the three of them, Keanu, Ed Solomon and himself, have been kicking ideas around. First and foremost, they don't wanna make a crap movie, as he put it. They've even had ideas that even children wouldn't be able to see the movie. If they come up with a story that they feel worthwhile, it will happen.
Personally, I hope it isn't a Crystal Skull.
As for me, having not seen either film in a long time, I found myself liking Bogus Journey even more. I wasn't a fan of it when I first saw it way back when but I actually like it now.
Ed Solomon will be on hand for a Q&A at tonight's screening at 7:30pm.
FYI...the New Beverly is screening "The Transformers-The Movie" (1986) at midnight this Saturday.
Be excellent to each other!

I'm an enormous fan of BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE, but...like Filmmaven...I was initially unmoved by BOGUS JOURNEY, its sequel. And, like Filmmaven, a few months back I caught an HD broadcast of the picture and enjoyed far more than I had before. A lot of great stuff there...
My understanding is that a potential third film would find Bill & Ted in realtime...i.e. as adults. While, personally, I can understand the desire not to have these characters diluted or de-mystified by seeing them as "grown-ups", I can also imagine there could be quite a bit of fun watching decidedly...different and challenged...Bill & Ted trying to deal with precepts of adult responsibility while also confronted by some fucked-up, OTT scenario.
I'm not a big one for unnecessary sequels, and I'm not altogether convinced this one is particularly "necessary." But, honestly, this is one movie I hope gets made.

Would love to see this happen!!!

The never-ending old person kiss and a deranged Easter bunny. That sounds like Hell to me.
-
Boom!!!
-
...that are seriously improved by the German dubbing! Yes, they are perfectly fine in its original language, but the German dubbing makes them even better! (Other things include the Ice Age movies, the old Bud Spencer & Terence Hill movies and that old TV show The Persuaders)

This would suck.
-
BRING IT ON!!!! (uh,,,,please.)
-
I can't imagine anyone campaigning for a 3rd Bill and Ted. They just aren't relevant anymore (if they ever were).
-
I think the TT is time travel but what the hell is the O?
-
Might actually be funny. And bring back Death as well.
-
you can revive George Carlin from the dead. Have a most excellent day.
-
Glad to see that Ed Solomon is involved in this, but what of B&T co-writer Matheson? Is he sitting this one out?
-
Other The Top?? I'm guessing.
-
HAH! Of course he was.

THEY SHOULD THROW IN JOHNNY FROM THE KARATE KID FOR GOOD MEASURE
by meadowe
I loved the Sweep The Leg music video (which he apparently directed also) for No More Kings.
-
I guess. Damn it Merrick you can't just abreviate any phrase you want and assume the rest of us know what you mean.
-
Play Alex Winter's character. Would be the greatest duo ever!!! The two greatest surfer actors of all time in one movie!!!
-
Again, just guessing. Or should i say JG?
-
...but they will eventually change their opinion of it 10 or 20 years down the road. (See also: Temple of Doom; Back To The Future 2; Batman Returns; Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey; etc. etc.)
-
At the end of Bogus Journey, we are taken through a series of headlines. The headlines and magazines show us Bill and Ted's rise to glory and how they basically make mankind better.
Anything in a part 3 would nullify parts 1 &2. -

by planty_mcplant_plants_his_plant_at_aicn
Loved the first, kinda meh about the second, absolutely no desire for a third. The B&T films are guilty pleasures, and like all guilty pleasures you have to know when to stop.
-
Far out! Total coincidence!
-
no recast for Rufus.

They really had no business being great, but they are.
-
third Bill & Ted movie ended up as Bio-Dome.
-
is a fairly well-known phrase. And no, I don't want a B&T sequel. Bogus Journey wrapped things up incredibly well. How would a third film work if they've become the all-conquering, world renowned Wyld Stallyns?
-
The guy has been a misery ever since these films!
-
Thought keanu wad badass in constantine.
-
That beat is still tremendous and should become a major feature of the new soundtrack. Yes they are timeless and relevant. Yes they are old and now have prescriptions for medical pot. The movie would have to entail them totally fucking up the paradise they created in the 1st 2 movies to create our shitty reality. It needs to be as epic as cheech and chong's 1st movie meets a matrix film meets the wall.
-
For one thing, it's not on Cox's credits. For another,IMDB credits Ed Gale & Arturo Gil as the small Station characters and Tom Allard as Big Station. If B&T accidentally almost killed Tony Cox then it must've been on their off hours. lol
-
Spell it out! The english language is becoming extinct thanks to this goddamn teenage internet/phone garbage!!!
-
especially if you're a news reporter. OTT maybe pretty common to most readers, but alot of us have never heard it. I should be able to read an article without it turning into a guessing game on the abbreviations.
-
Alex Winter talking about Bill and Ted 3 is like Tom Arnold talking about True Lies 2.

You set it after the stories shown at the end of "Bogus Journey." Bill & Ted have changed the world but now everybody hates everything they fucking do and claims that none of it is as good as what they made in the past. They are resented, and people joke about how their childhoods are being raped by their new albums. People crack wise about assassinating them to protect their product catalog. Make it an entire commentary on how fandom expects THE FUCKING MOON from any returning franchise that's been gone for a while. How they won't let any new film from an established franchise have more than three moments with problems in them before they conclude the whole two-hour product is "total shit."
-
I'm inside one of those rare Andy Kaufman-esque moments where I don't know if people are joking or not.
-
No. really. Even if you think he's dogshit in everything else, Reeves is gold as Ted. "Remember when I asked your mom to the prom?" "SHUT UP, TED!!" I also say Bogus Journey is underrated. "See, before, we were puss-holes. Now we're totally metal. NOW GET OVER HERE AND PUT OUT!"
-
That might be a little *ahem* smart for a Bill & Ted movie. However, that would be make a fantastic story for a Simpsons Movie sequel.
-
This is your wakeup call Bodie! I AM A FBI AGENT!!!!!
-
Please don't make this film.

They will pull some gay matrix shit to explain Rufus
by allpowerfulwizardofoz
ala he took a new form.
-
...Bill & Ted's Radical Voyage
-
they could do back the future part 2 type scenes where B&T are sneaking around in the background while Rufus in Bogus Journey is giving the lecture at the university as well as he and the 2 at the Circle K in Excellent Adventure, adding in a ponytailed stuntdouble for back shots, that way Rufus will never be missed.
-
They were just good, dumb fun. Why not have some more good, dumb fun, and give the same age group that enjoyed the films when they came out something fun that addresses where they are now in life?
-
This could be doable as long as they paid proper homage to George Carlin. Maybe Bill and Ted travel into the future to attend Rufus' funeral or something. I've seen movies with thinner premises than that.
-
And kill Aldus Snow
-
I recently brought both the soundtracks for the films after catching them in HD. Most excellent soundtracks and God Gave Rock N' Roll To You still gets those hairs on the back of my neck up.
Bill & Ted 3 must rank alongside Ghostbusters 3 as most wanted 3rd film ever..
This needs to be made, do it guys!! -
Is a phonebooth and Keanu Reeves as a surfer slacker. What more does a cine connoisseur needs. Bring on 3.
-
And yet, I have nothing against them making a new one. At best, it would be fucking excellent. At worst, it would be a complete disaster, but it's so far removed, and would probably be so different, from the originals, it would have zero effect on enjoyment. Even if it was trash, there is zero possibility of me not getting my 9 dollars worth out of seeing the two of them back on screen together, whether it be triumphant, kinda bogus, heinous, or most non-triumphant.
-
As much as George Carlin is a part of Bill & Ted history he was barely in Bogus Journey.
A third film can be done without him, just don't recast please.. do the decent thing like Indy 4 did with Denholm Elliott.. Have a tribute to him on screen somehow sure, but life goes on within you and without you. (Just don't pull a Bill Murray and have his ghost in the film!)
On another note, what the heck could they use for timetravel, has anyone used a phonebooth in the past 15 years?!? maybe taht's how you write Rufus out? each timetraveler has their own device for getting back? I don't know.. -
That there's what it is. Just saying is all.
-
Are you tank? Whoa!!
How many fingers am I going to hold up? Three! Whoa!!! -
uses the police call box, so they can still use the phonebooth.
-
or maybe Rufus would be CGI'ed but in like a Bill and Ted way. Like some mean trick like done to him by like a heinous new enemy. Crispin Glover for the bad guys. Tne Barbarian Bros as the Barbarian Bros. God i miss the B'z. Why no more Barbarian Bro movies. Why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!
-
fun, silly, entertaining = win
-
the bad guy of the future want to turn everything into CGI and he plans to kill rock music with resampz. Cause that's like what happening now in the real world anyways. As far as movies and music goes. Rufus is the first victim, and the future bad dude swipes a phone booth to go back into the past to cgi and resamp everything before bill and ted change the world. CGI evil us'es Ted. Whoaaaaaaaa
-
to re fix the world after the shitty music of their children screw it all up. Kinda like how BobDylans music effected American but then his lame ass son came along and set it all back 1000 years. " One headlight!!" = GAY
-
So, just kicking around some ideas is considered news?
Hey, my friends and I talked about a remake of OUTBREAK, but from the point of view of the monkey. And it's voiced by Robin Williams.
I expect an article about the OUTBREAK REMAKE within the hour. -
Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Back to the Future and Bill & Ted belong to the 80's. Trying to update any of them (for the sole purpose of cashing in, having run out of ideas) will bring nothing but disaster. Exhibit A: Indian Jones gets buttfucked by CGI-alien obsessed George Lucas and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls.
-
from the scary grandma, to death, to robo Bill and Ted, to the Kiss song at the end (the ONLY Kiss song I got on my jPod)...i would pay to see a 3rd (ya hear me, Keanu? thats the only way youre gettin my money!)

where Will Smith was cast as Neo (like in Last Action Hero with Stallone)...speaking of the multiverse, any chance anyone catch that Turtles Forever cartoon movie? the current Turtles meeting up with the 80s Turtles...hilarious!

OTT is short for "over the top," as in outlandish, ridiculous, and/or balls-out crazy.
-
The sequel, well... I liked it when it came out, but saw it more recently and the tone is totally off. It really does not feel like the same kind of movie, even if it does have some entertaining parts. I could watch the first one over and over and I still love it though. I don't have high hopes that a sequel will be made or could be worth making, but perhaps they will surprise me.
-
I scrolled back up and saw vin_diggler guessed it awhile back, but he wasn't sure if it was correct. I'm kind of shocked that so few people know that phrase. It's pretty common, actually. I mean, I know it, and I'm 41 with no kids.
-
Ever since that movie, I've been nervous about any '80's comedy getting a sequel 20 years later. That goes for Ghostbusters, too. Just leave them alone.
-
That movie that made 600 mil worldwide and rated very highly on RT?
-
Love some Bill & Ted!
-
There you go.
-
Rufus is going to be accidentally sent back to 1885, then Bill and Ted must travel to the wild west to save him from the evil Mad Dog Denomolos.
-
Youh heff SAHNK MAH BATTLE-SHEEP!
-
There are three major realms which science fiction and fantasy often explore: space travel, time travel, and the supernatural. They've done time travel and the supernatural. So the third movie should be about space travel. Didn't the spinning headlines at the end of the second movie say that they were going to do a concert on the moon? The third movie could be about a concert tour on other planets, with all kinds of aliens and stuff.
-
The first Bill and Ted is unwatchable now, but Part II is pretty funny.
-
Keanu has been Neo, Constantine, etc., etc.. But what has Alex Winter done? Oh yea, let's resurrect a 15 year old franchise. Neo, just loan him some money!
-

when i first saw this in theaters i only laughed at the 69 gag because i just thought it was funny they guessed the same number. oh the innocence of youth. :P

Excellent Adventure is amazing and a crowd pleaser but Bogus Journey is so out there I love it.

... but that's usually with a cameo or a small role.
Keanu's agent would probably have a stroke if he did a B&T3.
ps: I was impressed with his role in "Parenthood" ... but he will always be "Johnny Utah" even moreso than Neo (not that anyone, even the good actors, showed that much range in any of those 3 movies) -
I dug the first film and it stands up as well as any goofball movie from the Eighties can (they got away with a lot more bizarre concepts for movies in the Eighties), and thought the second one was a confusing mess with a couple of funny jokes in it (Bill Sadler as "Death", the "Star Trek" reference). Say, while we're trying to sequelize everything in sight, I bet you could get the sequel rights to MY SCIENCE PROJECT, DATE WITH AN ANGEL, THE WRAITH, TUFF TURF, ZAPPED! and EXPLORERS for a song. I'm still reeling over that FRIGHT NIGHT remake.

anyways if there's no sequel in the future and this is all bogus
by beyondthunderdome2girls1cupbillcosby
you still got Freaked! with both of them starring together, plus the 8 episode tv show and the cartoon with all 3 of their voices, the comci books and the halloween spectacular on youtube. so it ain't really a big deal. part 2 was an excellent sequel, like gremlins 2, so if they do make a 3rd one they could do anything they want cause they already did the almost impossible with Bogus Journey.

Boy, there are some dopes on here.

When I laughed when watching this with my kids recently, I quickly explained the relevance of "69" as the year woodstock happened which is important in rock n roll history and the kids bought it with no further questions! LOL!

Ted's little brother.
-
Not sure why he's doing DTV "Ben Ten" movies, but "Fever" was very well done.
