A Release Date Is Set For The Coens' TRUE GRIT - FOOTLOOSE Pulled From Sched!!

Paramount's much lamented remake of FOOTLOOSE (details HERE) has been removed from schedules in the wake of director Kenney Ortega's departure.

...Par has taken "Footloose," which was to open June 18, off the release calendar. Remake hit a major roadblock when Kenny Ortega dropped out as director, reportedly over creative differences.

...indicates Variety HERE. The same article reveals that Joel and Ethan Coen's TRUE GRIT has been set for a Christmas release. This isn't a remake of the classic John Wayne/Glen Campbell western (HERE) as it is a re-adaptation of Charles Portis' literary source material (HERE). Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon will take the roles assumed by Wayne and Campbell in director Henry Hathaway's 1969 adaptation.
