Here's A Poster For Crowe/Scott's ROBIN HOOD!!

Published at:  Jan 06, 2010 12:15:47 PM CST

Merrick here...

The recently released trailers (HERE and HERE) definitely arouse my curiosity about this project; this completely uninspired poster does not. I mean, there's no image in a Ridley Scott movie more interesting...or compelling...than a close-up of Crowe shooting an arrow? I somehow doubt that. This looks like the cover of a bad novelization.

The poster comes to us via HeyUGuys - you can find a larger version of the pic HERE!

than this misguided/unneeded bland historical adaptation. It's still not too late to turn this into a send-up of self-serious historical dramas by adding a few more slow-mo shots, writing a few more lines of Blanchett acting spunky and having a scene of Crowe being carried across a river by Friar Tuck.

Ridley, take a tip from 2009 and make The Forever War already. Avatar, Moon & District 9 proved that intelligent sci-fi sells. Look forward, not backwards, yo!

You won't realise it until the end though when the twist kicks in and Robin finds himself dressed in a wig and a gown sucking off Friar Tuck. In a flashback.

It is placing its marketing emphasis on Crowe and the iconic stature of Robin Hood's bow & arrow. It doesn't show how this will be any different from other HOODs. its a movie about robin hood starring russell crowe- hence a closse up of russell crowe drawing a bow and arrow. In this time of record losses in hollywood and dissapointing opening weekends- they really cant afford to be obscure and arty anymore- they must bluntly promote their product as if it were toothpaste or motor oil or anything else.....its a sad new reality that has also led to the declining art of the movie preview- they cant afford to be obscure- they must use the few minutes they have to show you exactly what your buying- they already have the money of the fanboy genre lover with disposable income- they cannot sustain themselves on that alone- they are casting their net as wide as possible for potential "consumers".

    When INVESTORS Attack !!

    by matthooper

This is what happens. Financial investors, banking communities, they all watch what you guys say when these trailers hit and that's how they decide what image(s) will be used to market the film. There were so many comments re: that shot of Crowe aiming that bow & arrow, that they felt compelled to take notice of that more than any other images. And once that bad ride starts, it doesn't stop. From here on out, the marketing will most probably be "uninspired" and guess who's "really" to blame.

No, seriously. When Crowe's agent in London called him 'a fucking pussy' down the phone, Crowe sailed over to the UK, armed himself with a bow and some arrows, and took down everyone in sight until he reached the guy who messed with him. We're lucky Ridley Scott was there with a camcorder really.

I feel if this poster were put on every boarder in America, you wouldn't have to worry about illegal immigrants. I think Robert Pattinson should get this poster made into a t-shirt since he hates his fame so much.

    by performingmonkey

Especially when it comes so soon after the BBC Robin Hood series. This is a different take to that series (mostly...) but it doesn't feel like it should be called 'Robin Hood'. Robin Hood should feel more like a fantasy story than pure historical IMO, considering it IS fantasy! Prince of Thieves had the right tone, even if some parts were bad. Was worth it just for Alan Rickman and Morgan Freeman.

    by thedarklinglord

Seems like a seriously bad idea to me. They're already setting you up to have insanely high expectations (assuming you liked Gladiator). You've got the same director, the same lead, and another historical story and setting. If the movie isn't every bit as good as Gladiator, it'll be seen as a total failure by everyone going into the theater and, because it was on the fucking poster, went in expecting another Gladiator.

Instead of "Gladiator" they should have put "Kevin Costner wasn't involved in this project in ANY way." Anyone who was on the fence about whether or not they wanted to see it, anyone suffering from horror flashbacks to what the words "Robin Hood" brings to mind, would be fucking sold upon reading that shit.

Where's my batshit crazy Ridley Scott that gave me chestbursters and blood-red Tim Curries? And by the way, don't go by the trailers. Ridley will intentionally shoot cool shit for the trailer and cut it out of the movie.
The GLADIATOR trailer had this cool spider-walking dude in it. Not in the movie. AMERICAN GANGSTER? Denzel in fedora and trenchcoat, silhouetted against a bright doorway, lifting up a shotgun to blast someone's brains out. An image more gangster than the last ten years' worth of gangster films preceding it. Not in the movie.
The Robin Hood image that sticks out to me is Crowe wearing a crown for some reason. I bet you it won't be in the movie.

I'm looking forward to this film like I'm looking forward to having my bowels removed forcibly from my body and replaced by PVC pipe.

I respect Ridley Scott and I respect Russell Crowe. However, Kevin Costner ruined my interest in Robin Hood forever. The only way I will see this is if it's EITHER the most kick-ass movie EVER MADE, or it's the best Oscar contender we've seen in many years. Somehow, I doubt this film will deliver on either account.
