Here's A Poster For Crowe/Scott's ROBIN HOOD!!
Merrick here...
The recently released trailers (HERE and HERE) definitely arouse my curiosity about this project; this completely uninspired poster does not. I mean, there's no image in a Ridley Scott movie more interesting...or compelling...than a close-up of Crowe shooting an arrow? I somehow doubt that. This looks like the cover of a bad novelization.

The poster comes to us via HeyUGuys - you can find a larger version of the pic HERE!

That's actually a picture from Russell Crowe's garden

than this misguided/unneeded bland historical adaptation. It's still not too late to turn this into a send-up of self-serious historical dramas by adding a few more slow-mo shots, writing a few more lines of Blanchett acting spunky and having a scene of Crowe being carried across a river by Friar Tuck.
Ridley, take a tip from 2009 and make The Forever War already. Avatar, Moon & District 9 proved that intelligent sci-fi sells. Look forward, not backwards, yo! -
There's ya Clash Of The Titans retarded tagline for ya.

The font, its placement, the image. Everything. Awful.

Just think! If Christopher Nolan had made this...
by richard_gere_raped_my_gerbil
..we'd almost certainly still have the whole 'Robin Hood is the Sheriff' angle. In fact, he'd be psychologically unhinged and would probably also be Maid Marion as well. You won't realise it until the end though when the twist kicks in and Robin finds himself dressed in a wig and a gown sucking off Friar Tuck. In a flashback.
-
...BECAUSE HE'S RUNNING A VARIANCE OF THE CARY ELWES ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS POSTER. SO FAR THE MARKETING FOR THIS MOVIE IS A DISASTER. CRAP YANK TRAILER, CRAP POSTERS. YIKES.
-
...what capes, masks, and spandex pants are to the rest of you...swords are to me.
-
Anyway, if there's two things he loves it's fighting and, fightin' round the world! And really, is this just going to be a more violent Kevin Costner movie? I have faith in Ridley Scott to a degree, but...damn Robin Hood is so easy to mess up.
-
...do you really make a sound?
-
... just sayin'
-
I like period movies, and I was a big fan of the BBC Robin Hood TV show a little while ago, so I actually kind of want to see this movie (I guess I'm too young to have been burnt out by the story... besides the TV show, the only Robin Hood movies I've seen are the Disney one and the Mel Brooks spoof). But that poster? Boring as hell... major turn off.
-
Freud would have a field day with your comment ;)
-
now THAT I like!
-
Not that I can recall right now... He should.
-
and it never did
-
I mean, Russell looks fine, but yeah, uninspired. At least it doesn't look airbrushed though, but please, I don't need Russell snarling at me. That's not my idea of Robin Hood.
-
Where's the green spandex? Where's that confident grin? I don't expect his men to be all that merry either. This would have more cred if Scott would just come out and call it "Maximus Shoots Arrows Now". I'll still watch it, but it'll be different in my imagination. There will be tigers.
-
Right up to the point where I saw the promotional material. From that point on, my interest was down the toilet. Sad. I love Ridley Scott. Love Russell Crow. Love Robin Hood. Have nothing against Cate Blanchett, at all. But I really don't want to see this. It is either a ho-hum movie, or one of the worst promotional efforts of all time.
-
Virtuosity - with Denzel Washington. I haven't seen it though. As another poster said, Ridley Scott should tackle The Forever War next.......Crowe wouldn't be bad as the lead actually.
-
...material to work with every day...
-
I mean i'm sure who ever desinged it worked hard on it, and his feelings would probabaly be hurt. It's not easy to desing posters guy this one took my 4 and a half hours to put together
-
And no wonder I didn't recall that film... I've tried to banish it from my consciousness... really terrible...

Should've Kept The Trailer Shot With The Blood B/W His Eyes
by crow3711
Would've been totally ballsy and hardcore as a poster. In the trailer I think its a little showy actually, but as a poster, that image would be sick. People would definitely stop and stare at it in a theater. They kind of sold out with this toned down version.
-
the same as JettL93. Having a merry christmas chief? :)
-
"Um... because I get to fuck around and drink wine and get paid a king's ransom to shoot a movie just a block down the road from my house. That's why." [Even though he should be ashamed and better damn well make a great Alien prequel...]
-
He looks like Gerard Butler there... I like the title "Nottingham" better though.
-
8-BALL IN CORNER POCKET
-
First one to PS Crowe blue and insert Netiri wins a toaster.
-
Did someone say Abe Lincoln?
-
I can't stand to watch anything he's in. Plus, he's mediocre and sickeningly overrated.
Guy Pearce would have been a much better Robin Hood. -
Before I reached the end of the poster.jkkkkkfg.fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
-
For some strange reason...
-
same here as he did in L.A. Confidential, which was, what 1997?
-
...sort of lucky for an actor (male) if you think about it.
-
Surely someone in marketting needs to be fired. That's so uninspiring with todays standards for posters. Then again the Avatar poster was shit too!
-
...from Crowe's eyes to the tip of the arrow and back again...zoooom....zooooom..... zoooom.... zooooom.... zoooom..... zooooom.....zooooom....Between digital and hologram stuff I'm sure they could make it happen...
-
WILL BE Tucked!!!
-
At least it's not The Two Towers poster
-
...WILL...BE...LITTLE!
-
You're not the only one. I'll take a sword fight over a gunfight any fucking day of the week. It's just more interesting to wattch. Guns are for cowards who can't look there enemies in the eye (unless it's a realistic war movie, then it feels a little more immediate.)
-
WILL BE Hammed!
-
Oh yeah floating heads are awful. SCREAM started that, and we still have it, right? That was over 15 years ago. Time to stop that and go back to the beautifully painted poster art of the 70's and 80's that looked nothing like the actual movie but gave a great impression of the feel of it.
-
WILL BE Floated!
-
is a few years older now than Crowe was when he starred in L.A. Confidential, but to put both photos side by side, that would seem impossible.
-
Looks like a typical bowhunter from Scranton, PA after a night of Jezynowka and Genesee at the cabin. . .
-
...I've got a touch of that. You look like you're seventeen your whole life...and then eventually you just start to look like a seventeen year old with some sort of tragic degenerative disease.Nothing in between.

COME ON!!!
-
It is placing its marketing emphasis on Crowe and the iconic stature of Robin Hood's bow & arrow. It doesn't show how this will be any different from other HOODs. And it doesn't reflect the scope of this particular production. Is it a terrible poster? No. But it doesn't seem particularly interesting either.
-
unleash arrows!".Just doesn't have quite the same degree of manliness, eh?

So Gladiator was Braveheart in Rome, and Robin Hood is Gladiator in England.
But Braveheart was Braveheart in England (mostly).
So yeah, I think I'll go watch Braveheart. -
i've seen an early draft and holy fuck the surprise twist ending pretty much made me shit my pants, the next thing out of my mouth was "Are you seriously gonna do that?" ridley's reponse was just a simple smile and a nod, to which i replied "you have balls sir, your fans are gonna love you on a whole other level after theis one"Trust me guys this film is not what your expecting, you'll have to see it twice just to take it all in
-
Just watched the trailer again. I think what might make this work (both poster and movie) is that he just comes across as a guy who's in a situation where he has to "get tough or die". There's no "Welcome to Sherwood! " cleverness to this. Dude looks like he's shit tired and would rather be back home pranging the milkmaid than sneaking around in the woods.
-
It may of been make-up, but he looked like a baby faced 20 year old in that.
-
Virtuosity was hilarious, from what I recall, mainly the keyboard playing screams bit. Need to see that again.
-
I applaud you for your persistence.
-
I have to admit that one cracked me up; especially the "fans will love you on a whole other level" thing. Good job on that one.
-
Love him or hate him, this site would not be what it is without JettL93's participation. Personally, the guy cracks me up, in a good way. (As do the many bile-filled responses he earns.)
-
I gotta say here and now that since I registered as a TB'er a few months ago, I cannot count the many hours of entertainment and good laughs I've gotten out of these rambling conversations. Really, to all of you (and I wouldn't dare mention any by name for fear of omitting others), thanks so much for the good times. It's meant a lot to me.
-
I think you meant to call it Robin Da Hood.
-
...and aren't dying, or sick, or returning to your home planet or your real life in the jungle or anything...
-
i actually sat there and started wondering what the twist could possibly be before i saw the name of the tb'er and just smiled. well played jett93, well played
-
What's wrong with you people? Just because Merrick doesn't like it you don't like it?
-
I don't like it because it sucks big time wee wee.
-
jeez, I'm gettin all misty eyed here.

You do have a nerf computer, yes? Just concerned for your safety, thats all.

Just spreading some good cheer.

With movie campaigns, dozens of posters are designed. The studio simply went with the laziest one.
-
its a movie about robin hood starring russell crowe- hence a closse up of russell crowe drawing a bow and arrow. In this time of record losses in hollywood and dissapointing opening weekends- they really cant afford to be obscure and arty anymore- they must bluntly promote their product as if it were toothpaste or motor oil or anything else.....its a sad new reality that has also led to the declining art of the movie preview- they cant afford to be obscure- they must use the few minutes they have to show you exactly what your buying- they already have the money of the fanboy genre lover with disposable income- they cannot sustain themselves on that alone- they are casting their net as wide as possible for potential "consumers".
-
people allover the world are celebrating christmas and giving gifts to each other, for example i give you all the gifts of my scripts and you give me the gift of being fans of my workyep everybody is in a festive spirit right now..except Muslams, i don't know what they celebrate but odds are theres no presents, it's very loud and it sets humanity back about 400 years
-
we need a less serious Robin Hood. we need a throwback to swashbuckling adventure. Hell I would even take the Disney version right now. Scott/Crowe Robin Hood looks good but it's been done before
-
guy with bow and arrow in a movie called Robin Hood
-
But the trailer sucks. Just as long as its more Gladiator than Kingdom of Heaven. Remember the AWFUL Gladiator poster too? It looked like an old photo of Russell's head pasted to someone else's body and cut out with plastic scissors! All that talent and a poster that looks like crap - what gives?
-
if you see her in a movie, its most likely another fuckin bullshit rehash dash for cash stinker. or just a stinker.
-
How come all movies posters look the same these days? Where's the COLOR, dude??????
-
was great in pretty much everything I saw her in. Cut her some slack.
-
...Abd threw phones at Mexicans.
Twat.
-
This is what happens. Financial investors, banking communities, they all watch what you guys say when these trailers hit and that's how they decide what image(s) will be used to market the film. There were so many comments re: that shot of Crowe aiming that bow & arrow, that they felt compelled to take notice of that more than any other images. And once that bad ride starts, it doesn't stop. From here on out, the marketing will most probably be "uninspired" and guess who's "really" to blame.
-
A still shot with credits? Wow. Way to save money there.
-

Apparently this is based on a true story
by richard_gere_raped_my_gerbil
No, seriously. When Crowe's agent in London called him 'a fucking pussy' down the phone, Crowe sailed over to the UK, armed himself with a bow and some arrows, and took down everyone in sight until he reached the guy who messed with him. We're lucky Ridley Scott was there with a camcorder really.
-
essentially. though kevin costner's arrow was on fire.
-
I was having an ordinary day, nothing special, feeling fine - and then I see this poster, and it actively bored me.I think that instead of giving children Ritalin, they should just show them this poster. I feel if this poster were put on every boarder in America, you wouldn't have to worry about illegal immigrants. I think Robert Pattinson should get this poster made into a t-shirt since he hates his fame so much.
-
Lo... ye must be lookin at I since tis none else in these woods!!!!
-
I think the average person would find that poster to be pretty darn cool. It let's you know the basics, it ain't gotta be an Edvard Munch painting.
-
Russell Crowe is the weakest man in the pub. Your tough guy routine is soooo played out. Too bad this pansy ass is surrounded by real badass security detail who are 100 times more dangerous than you Russell. But you pay well so I couldn't even get within an earshot of your glassjaw face. I could murder Russell Crowe with my bare hands and I'm only a 155 pound internet geek.
-
He looks like such a fucking neanderthal
-
Or is he a Norman noble in this one?

...keeps any strudel or scones for himself...
-
I'm kidding. You guys got me started! I blame you!
-
the people who say english women are cold or ugly, are a bunch of blind idiots.
Kate Blanchett = Goddess.
end of line. -
It seems most of the comments here are made by children who can barely spell and have no experience of film making.
Ridley is THE master director and has more talent than all of you muppets. Robin Hood will be another classic, end of story. -
Especially when it comes so soon after the BBC Robin Hood series. This is a different take to that series (mostly...) but it doesn't feel like it should be called 'Robin Hood'. Robin Hood should feel more like a fantasy story than pure historical IMO, considering it IS fantasy! Prince of Thieves had the right tone, even if some parts were bad. Was worth it just for Alan Rickman and Morgan Freeman.
-
Doesn't that make for a compelling poster?
-
from that horrible Kevin Costner version. I see it. On a semi related note, what the hell is Dave Chapelle up to? Is he gone for good now? He had an understated role in Men in Tights.
-
Cate Blanchett is Australian, dumbass.
"end of the line." -
I've no prob. w/ it, typical of the director/actor.
-
He's a portly fellow, (that's a kind way of saying he's a bit of a porker). richard armitage would have made a good Hood, but no one knows who he is. cate blanchett is the only reason I'm going to see this. Her english accent is so damn classy (see Elizabeth and LOTR) it's worth the ticket price alone.
-
Seriously, it's a Robin f$ck$nghood movie! The poster suits the movie just fine.
-
...same style, angle, color saturation as one of his Rambo posters.
-
Dec 23, 2009 7:57:42 PM CST
Do they really need GLADIATOR at the top of the poster?
by thedarklinglord
Seems like a seriously bad idea to me. They're already setting you up to have insanely high expectations (assuming you liked Gladiator). You've got the same director, the same lead, and another historical story and setting. If the movie isn't every bit as good as Gladiator, it'll be seen as a total failure by everyone going into the theater and, because it was on the fucking poster, went in expecting another Gladiator.
Instead of "Gladiator" they should have put "Kevin Costner wasn't involved in this project in ANY way." Anyone who was on the fence about whether or not they wanted to see it, anyone suffering from horror flashbacks to what the words "Robin Hood" brings to mind, would be fucking sold upon reading that shit. -

"beautifully painted poster art of the 70's and 80's that looked
by takingscorpioscalls
hahah so true. but that's why i love them.
-
Sure, it gets the point across, but any 15 year old with a decent camera phone could rustle (Russel? Ha!) up something that looks just like it.
Mediocre effort, but I'm sure the film itself will be great. -
Show a castle or something.
-
It's a Robin Hood movie and you're complaining because it's a picture of a guy shooting an arrow? Really?
........ -
this is going to be great
-
seriously, he looks the same in all his movies, I'm beginning to feel they're all sequels or spin-offs. Gladiator Robin Hood 2010.
-
...it's OK to disagree.Just means you're WRONG. And no doubt rape babies.
-
...you're all abunch of whiny cunts who need to move out of Mummy and Daddy's squalid apartment.Cunts.
-
And I'm using the word f@g as in moron, not f@g as in gay. Gays are cool in my book...
Seriously, it's a motherf@cking Robin Hood poster!!! Russell Crow shooting an arrow is an appropriate image. Not groundbreaking in any sense, but hell, it doesn't have to be. -
ala the Terminator Salvation one, with Crowe firing the arrow or following you around.
-
Where's my batshit crazy Ridley Scott that gave me chestbursters and blood-red Tim Curries? And by the way, don't go by the trailers. Ridley will intentionally shoot cool shit for the trailer and cut it out of the movie.
The GLADIATOR trailer had this cool spider-walking dude in it. Not in the movie. AMERICAN GANGSTER? Denzel in fedora and trenchcoat, silhouetted against a bright doorway, lifting up a shotgun to blast someone's brains out. An image more gangster than the last ten years' worth of gangster films preceding it. Not in the movie.
The Robin Hood image that sticks out to me is Crowe wearing a crown for some reason. I bet you it won't be in the movie.
AVATAR!!!! -
He looks like he just stepped off the set of Gladiator and made the poster for this.
-
Oh wait--that's Russell Crowe and this is 19 years later?
Damn. I picked the wrong day to stop drinking heavily... -
Yeah, I saw the similarity immediately, too. But then again, that poster was a spoof of Prince of Thieves. So. Not much in the way of originality going on here. Even my post was completely derivative.
-
Russell Crowe looks fat in that shot, good plan guys, a closeup of a guy looking bloated and constipated and old and covered in fake blood, about to shoot an arrow. Who WOULDN'T want to see that movie??? Fucking lazy marketing assholes, making the star look bad while also playing on the lamest cliche of the "Robin Hood" story, that'll sell the idea that this is a serious film and not a jagoff studio piece put out to capitalize on a star.
-
You know Cate Blanchett is Australian, right?
And I live in England and I'll wholeheartedly agree with whoever said that we're a bunch of fugly cunts. Every time I go on holiday (mostly around Europe) and come back, I'm greeted with the kind of faces that would make the cast of Freaks look like they just stepped out of Vogue. -
At least wear a different hairstyle, Russ! :P
-
The blood is cool though
-
Yuck! That's a gross poster!
-
Brett Favre. I think he could handle the accent.
-
and i am sorry to hear that you live in a country filled with ugly women.Susan Boyle ftw right? ;)
-
for shame
-
This was my favorite image from the trailers. It's all about the eyes.
-
beat up any women on set?
-

-
Cameron said no politely, and the guy followed him and hounded him. I would have told him to fuck off too.
-
Why are you spamming every thread with this?
-
Looks like a Gay man Sorry. Unless shes in something that takes place in the 30s
-
just go behind the bush big green.
-
I'm looking forward to this film like I'm looking forward to having my bowels removed forcibly from my body and replaced by PVC pipe.
I respect Ridley Scott and I respect Russell Crowe. However, Kevin Costner ruined my interest in Robin Hood forever. The only way I will see this is if it's EITHER the most kick-ass movie EVER MADE, or it's the best Oscar contender we've seen in many years. Somehow, I doubt this film will deliver on either account. -
Let's talk Ridley Scott and sword fightin' period pieces. He cut his directorial teeth on the Duelists
-
nice one dante.
-
Robin Hood is supposed to be a bunch of MERRY MEN. It's not fucking Gladiator. WTF.
