And The Winner of THE BEATLES: REMASTERED (STEREO) CD Collection Is...

Published at:  Dec 03, 2009 12:02:36 AM CST

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here to announce the winner of the super hip THE BEATLES: REMASTERED (Stereo) CD Collection Contest announced a couple of weeks ago.

If you recall, I posted an audio clip of fifteen razor-thin slices taken from fifteen different Beatles songs. Your task was to name, in order, each song featured in the clip.

Here again is the clip:

I really had a lot of fun with this contest and from the responses I received, I take it you did too. Personally, I thought this was kind of hard. I put it together and still have to admit that I probably would've have trouble with at least one or two of them.

Of the several hundred entries I received, a few dozen of them listed all the songs correctly. Very impressive! At least twice that many had fourteen of the fifteen correct. Almost as impressive.

As stated in the rules of the contest, I've taken all the correct entries and dropped them into a pool where I will randomly choose the winner.

And that winner is…

Ted Poole of Freehold, New Jersey

Congratulations Ted!

And here are the correct answers…

1. "I'm Only Sleeping"
2. "Tell Me Why"
3. "Baby You're A Rich Man"
4. "What You're Doing"
5. "The Long And Winding Road"
6. "The Night Before"
7. "There's A Place"
8. "It's All Too Much"
9. "Penny Lane"
10. "Run For Your Life"
11. "Mean Mr. Mustard"
12. "Don't Pass Me By"
13. "It Won't Be Long"
14. "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!"
15. "From Me To You"

The most frequently incorrect answer was surprisingly #15. Many of you put "Thank You Girl." I thought that was interesting. Personally, I think I would've had a hard time with #9 "Penny Lane" and #10 "Run For Your Life." Yeah, I would've got them but I would've had to sweat a little first.

Congratulations again to Ted. The CDs will be shipping out directly from the label. Enjoy!

Thank you to all those who entered the contest. It was a lot of fun. I was rooting for you all.

Special thanks as well goes to Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music in conjunction with LBI Special Ops Media.

Goog goog g'joob!

    couldn't figure out #8 and #11

    by durhay

Surprised that I had #4 and #15 wrong. I had We Can Work it out and She Loves You. Knew #8 was a later song, but couldn't think of one that had a tambourine.

    Awesome contest, but...

    by murdermostfowl

That was Sooo difficult! AND some tricky bastard deserves a swift kick in the balls for the Mean Mr Mustard one. The clip they used for that is the bridge/interlude ( or whatever its called ) to Polythene Pam. I've been listening to Abbey Road for 20 years and I always thought of it as the beginning to Polythene Pam, not the end To Mean Mr. Mustard.
Oh well, awesome contest anyway... gave me hours of fun.

    Mean Mr. Mustard

    by scorekeeper

Actually, a number of people mistook this for the interlude into "Polythene Pam." But actually, the clip was taken much earlier in the song. It's the chromatic bass line in between the lines, "Sleeps in a hole in the road..." and
"Saving up to buy some clothes"

    Mean Mr. Mustard - Correction

    by scorekeeper

Actually, it's in between the lines "Takes him out to look at the queen" and "Only place that he's ever been" Sorry, I was going off memory earlier but went back to check it. It's still well before the "Polythene Pam" interlude.

The one that tripped me up...

    by dukeofspiders

...was the clip from Mr. Kite -- I thought it was from the radio break from "Walrus" where the stereo switches to mono/false stereo a measure before "Sitting in an English garden...".
