And Ellen Page's Replacement in That New Raimi Film Is...
Merrick here...
EARLIER THIS WEEK we learned that JUNO's Ellen Page was leaving the new Sam Raimi supernatural movie called DRAG ME TO HELL.
Now comes word that Alison Lohman (MATCHSTICK MEN, THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE) will take the part instead.

So says THIS ARTICLE in Variety.

Is the new 1st. Shamon !
I dont care about this news. If I wanted boobs I'd watch repeats of Nick & Jessica Newlyweds. -
What did she ever do to you guys?
-
that she is 28 years old. she looks like effin jailbait in beowulf....granted that was a cgi representation of her...
-
they are largely interchangeable. Lohman otfen plays much younger than herself too, also very young looking. That said she's not as good an actress but, hey, it's a horror flick so that doesn't really matter i guess.
-
no one...she's still there. actually, so is her imaginary twin sister. And Amy Adams.
-
If you disagree, you're probably annoying too
-
That picture is from the great Tom DiCillo comedy "Delirious" starring Steve Buscemi. It comes out today on DVD exclusive to Blockbuster. It was a terrific indie film that got great reviews but hardly saw the light of day in this tough film market. It's a great Buscemi flick with some nice shots of the lovely Lohman boxing in short shorts. Booyah!
-
Except this one has a pretty face, tits, and some actual range as an actress.
-
needs an eye job.
She had some horrible baggage happening at the Academy Awards. -
Lo mein.
-
tits. Seriously. There needs to be more celebrity tit shots or images of chicks in lingerie.
-
I know this may be confusing for some of you, but Ellen Page is an "actress" who plays certain "roles." I think she's a capable actress who has yet to really wow me. I thought she did a fine job in Juno. Her comedic timing and line delivery were great.
-
Not that I really care about who plays the bait but is anyone truly waiting for this flick when there is so much other coolness Raimi could be doing instead. Let's just get this over with.
-
Page's timing and line delivery are identical to John Hensley on NIP/TUCK. I'd be surprised if she wasn't a big fan of the show and the actor. And, for anybody curious to know what Page is doing next, here's a description of WHIP IT! from Imdb.com: "In Bodeen, Texas, an indie-rock loving misfit finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin." Wow, what enormous range this young Oscar-nominated "actress" has! I wonder if she'll be a condescending smartass in this one, too? Ellen Page is in line to be the next Kevin Spacey. The movie has a great double entendre for a title, though. Page looks like a whippet.
-
I still think Page would have been netter. Much, much better. Although, this girl has some chops, so we'll see.
-
I was really excited about Page. Say what you want about her lesbian antics, she would have been perfect.
-
I know this may sound like I'm trying ot be cool because hating on Juno is popular right now, but I really didn't like that movie. It has a certain sweetness and charm to it that is undeniable and JK Simmons was great, I'm still using the "next time I see ___ I'm going to punch him in the weiner" line, but I didn't care at all for the title character herself. I don't know if that is Ellen Page's fault, Diablo Cody's fault or Jason Reitman's fault or even a combonation of all 3, but I really could have done without her. Page didn't impress me enough though that I'll be jumping through hoops to see her next movie like say Amy Adams who really WOWED me in Enchanted. One good role on Page's part that blows me out of the water and I'll be a fan, it's nt something that can't be overcome, but I think as "hyped" up as Juno was, on this site and others, Page's performance didn't live up to expectations
-
it's being directed by Drew Barrymore, which beyond the description should give you an idea about what it's going to be aboutthat said, Ellen Page isn't a bad choice for a pseduo-Drew herself. that is cute, sweet, jailbaitish, funny with decent timing but not greatI also was just looking at what Roger Ebert said about her performance in Juno and basically he said "is there beena better performance this year" and sorry Roger but yes there has, and it was hte aformentioned Amy Adams in Enchanted, and best actress winner Marion Colltaird (or however you spell her name, I'm not interested)the Juno character herself was actually a pretty stock character in modern charaterzations the "hipster pretty girl" I'll dub it
-
way hotter
-
... In Hollywood. I really don't know why either.
-
Bloo and Mosquito are both criticizing Page for her acting, which is perfectly legitimate even if I don't quite agree. What I was complaining about were those who attack Ellen Page the person as smug or condescending. The funny thing about these attack is that they sound like they're criticizing her character, Juno. In fact, I would argue that because people associate her so heavily with her character it means she did a fine job. I haven't read much about Page so I don't know if she is smug, but from what I've read and what little I've seen that doesn't seem to be the case. If you didn't like Juno then criticize the movie, if you think Ellen Page's acting is overrated then criticize that, but don't confuse the character with the actress.
-
Page would have been more entertaining, but this is a suitable substitute. I just want to see Sam do horror again.
-
I thought she was good in Hard Candy. Showed her acting chops pretty well imo. However, the more I think about Juno, the less and less I like it. I think it was due to Diablo Cody's writing style and now people like Page less because of her performance in it. I think it's the last we will hear of DC as I highly doubt anyone after a month or so will even care to see anything else by her. But Page will probably be around and hopefully if she doesn't keep taking the same types of roles we might get a really good movie from her
-
What a great actress, nice to see her getting a lead part. She was terrific in Matchstick Men.
-
... with a hot blonde who looks 16 but is almost 30.Can't say I can complain about that. I've had a thing for Alison Lohman since Big Fish, way before her nakedy goodness in Where the Truth Lies. She definitely be in more pictures, that's for sure.Yes, I realize I am not really adding much to this conversation, which is usually my only reason for posting on here from time to time, but hey, I can be a fanboy, too, and Alison Lohman gives me the tickly feelings.
-
. . . and I could give 2 shits because it's Raimi.
-
She comes off just as snotty in interviews as her characters do in her principal roles. I think it's possible to hate the actress and the performances in tandem.
-
She was very good in Matchstick Men (even if I sorted hated the film), and I liked her a lot in White Oleander, too. Now, I just hope this Drag Me To Hell is a good film. Great title.
-
to "Honest to Blog" just so the rest of her life she can atone for that sinful line of dialogue
-
I find her annoying as hell as well. I couldn't stomach Saturday Night Live last weekend with her hosting.
-
PLEASE, before casting judgement on Ellen Page, watch Hard Candy. Great movie and really great performance.Juno is a great movie marred by some dialogue in two early scenes that is so atrocious that Diablo Cody should be hit in the ribs with her own Oscar statuette. That is all. I dislike that Ellen Page is being made to suffer for it.
-
Man, I love Alison Lohman. She picks good projects and I don't think gets the credit she deserves (that I know of). Cool casting. Looking forward to this one.
-
so the world can see her crime.
-
(yeah... I'm a precog^^) but never, EVER expected this to become true... I'm so much more interested in this movie now! Let's face it: Lohman is talented, hot, underused and makes arguably good career choices. What's not to like?
-
B- for Blogosphere, anyone using that phrase in a serious way deserves to burn
-
In "Where The Truth Lies," she gets in a 3-way with Kristin Adams, who is dressed as Alice in Wonderland.*Makes Mess on Monitor*

I think some people confuse personality with acting talent
by drewlicious
Love her or hate her Ellen Page is a very good actress. I think some people just hate her personality. I don't know if you can call that a legitimate criticism but would explain a lot of the nasty backlash I've heard lately. Aside from that no one here can honestly tell me she isn't invested in the moment in the films she's been in. Chances are you hate the casting not the skill.
-
Does everyone hate Ellen Page or is it only haters who bother to post? She gets my vote anyway. I think she's a great actress and I'm looking forward to seeing more movies with her in. I think she comes off really well in interviews too - like a really normal down to earth person thrust into some bizarre circumstances. Speaking of which, she already did a horror film: it co-starred Barbara Walters.
-
she's easier on the eyes will do just fine. didn't see JUNO but HARD CANDY blew and 30 DAYS OF NIGHT sucked. I knew Slade was a lost cause after HARD CANDY and 30 DON proved me right, don't feel bad if you liked those movies not everyone can be as astute when it comes to good film.
-
i really hate it.

Cory849 - "I dislike that Ellen Page is being made to suffer"
by mosquito march
Yeah, poor Ellen Page. I think she's gonna be alright, dude. Don't worry so much.
-
I salute you sir. I read that other TB and thought to myself "this guy is right, Allison Lohman fukcing rules". I was about to post it but then I got hungry and went to get some sandwiches. So I'm very happy with this replacement, Lohman was awesome in Matchstick Men and that movie with Michelle Pfeiffer (I rented just for her). So good call, sir.
-
If I'm attracted to Ellen Page and she looks 12 does that make me a pedophile? If she starts dating a guy in his early to mid 30's, like a lot of actresses her age, it's going to look weird.
-
weilding midget prostitute in the Total Recall remake.
-
he coulda talk her into getting nekkid and exposing the fire crotch
-
Perfect.
-
her ass is probably caked with coke from all the snorting that happened.
-
Makes me feel like a criminal. Oh well, I guess the script doesn't have much chance of appealing to a high profile lead. Shes not a bad actress though.
-
Your officially faggots. Amy Adams is the most goddamn annoying bitch to have ever graced the silverscreen. At least Page only played one supposedly annoying character. I wanted to punch Adams' ugmo face right out the back of her fucking head in Junebug. I don't think I have ever hated a character as much as that. Then I see Enchanted. My lord, what an annoying twee cunt she was. Her fat ass warbling those fucking retarded showtunes at the Oscars was also the most grating moment of television I've ever endured. And that squinty eyed broad mouthed annoying bitch head shake smile she does. Ergh. You people are demented.
-
...I'm gonna punch him in the weiner.

Page is totally annoying...and I haven't even seen Juno yet...
by remcycle
When I watched Hard Candy, she came across about as annoying as Claire Danes in "My So-Called Life"; boring, repetitive, with ZERO range and nothing else to say but "Um".
-
Yes, I was one of the six people who watched that show.
-
The only thing your astute at is licking c0ck
-
Ladies?
-
my god, different people perfer different things, I thought Amy Adams did a great job in enchanted and was a really good supporting role in charlie Wilson's war, I have only seen Page in X3 and Juno and haven't been impressedI also have a thing for the redheads too so....
-
P.S. I also hate Robert De Niro because he boxes in black and white and kicks Frank Vincent to death.
-
What a twat.
-
That broad is ugly as hell. And Ive never seen a single moment of her acting ability but who cares since she's nasty looking anyway. Bummer, Ellen Page woulda been cool.

Lohman is a terrific actress (her acting range surpasses the one-note Page IMHO) and the perspective of a Raimi horror film with her in the lead just proppelled the flick on my must-see list for 2009.
-
trust me, before the end of this decade, Robert Downey Jr will play a super hero. Word.
-
...So my barometer may be off somewhat. However I wanted to kick her in the belly in Junebug. I don't think I've ever hated a character for being that plain dumb in my life. I have no idea how Embeth Davidtz character didn't poison that whole goddamn useless clan. I cant believe her husband took her back home to meet that shit. I'd have legally changed my name or faked my death. I don't think I've met a more ingratiating bunch of redneck turds in my life than in that sink hole of a film. Should add that I don't really hate the film, its pretty good actually, but a pretty good look at some of the most useless and horrible fucking trash I've seen put on screen. At first I thought I just loathed the character, but after seeing Enchanted and seeing her pop up in interviews I realise its Adams I actually hate. Its like she always trying to serve me food or run around chasing puppies and kittens and proclaiming how wonderous the day is. I really just want her to get hit by a bus. At least Page is hot and has taste. Even if shes a sarcastic dyke. Better than being a fat sarcastic dyke like Garafolo.
-
and she doesn't over annunciate EVERY. SINGLE. WORD. like Page does. And she doesn't annoy me, plus she is much easier on the eyes. Maybe this will be Raimi's apology for Spidey 3, and Kirsten Dunst.
-
Little slut couldn't even buy that nerd a condom.
-
heheheh
-
Does anyone give a fuck weather or not Ellen "I'm really a 14 year old boy" Page is in a movie? I agree with stinkyfingerz and if The Gift is any sign of what we may "see" in a post Evil Dead non Spidey Raimi horror flick, then I am really glad Page is out. Because leaving the movie theater feeling like a gay pedophile is something I don't want to do.
-
Juno was good-overhyped, but a nice little flick, with a great lead performance-the only downside was that Michael Cera was shafted by being given little to do.....aanywho, whatever happened to Alison Lohman? I was waiting for her to be HUUUUUUGE, but nothing came of it....which was a pity cos she was cute, talented and seemed to choose interesting scripts. But then she kinda fell of the radar,,,hope the same doesnt happen Page!
-
come on harry - where's the meme?
-
It's always hilarious when people get all upset when some actor/actress they're obsessed with is criticized. But, the Pagers are the worst, because their adoration of her is based in creepy, deep-seated, Lolita-esque ephebiphilia. It's hard not to picture some fat dude sitting in front of his computer, rubbing himself through his pajama bottoms while looking at screen caps from X3, and how he practically loses his mind when somebody attacks Ellen Page, who is so small and so cute and so defenseless in the world without him there to take care of her. If only he could meet her, maybe he could make her understand that she's the one, that nobody will ever love her as much as he does! And how DARE anyone suggest that she is not the most talented and beautiful human being in the world?!
-
Hope he's not mad...
