Merrick here...

EARLIER THIS WEEK we learned that JUNO's Ellen Page was leaving the new Sam Raimi supernatural movie called DRAG ME TO HELL.

Now comes word that Alison Lohman (MATCHSTICK MEN, THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE) will take the part instead.

So says THIS ARTICLE in Variety.

they are largely interchangeable. Lohman otfen plays much younger than herself too, also very young looking. That said she's not as good an actress but, hey, it's a horror flick so that doesn't really matter i guess.

That picture is from the great Tom DiCillo comedy "Delirious" starring Steve Buscemi. It comes out today on DVD exclusive to Blockbuster. It was a terrific indie film that got great reviews but hardly saw the light of day in this tough film market. It's a great Buscemi flick with some nice shots of the lovely Lohman boxing in short shorts. Booyah!

Do people really hate Ellen Page or her character?

    by rbatty024

I know this may be confusing for some of you, but Ellen Page is an "actress" who plays certain "roles." I think she's a capable actress who has yet to really wow me. I thought she did a fine job in Juno. Her comedic timing and line delivery were great.

Page's timing and line delivery are identical to John Hensley on NIP/TUCK. I'd be surprised if she wasn't a big fan of the show and the actor. And, for anybody curious to know what Page is doing next, here's a description of WHIP IT! from Imdb.com: "In Bodeen, Texas, an indie-rock loving misfit finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin." Wow, what enormous range this young Oscar-nominated "actress" has! I wonder if she'll be a condescending smartass in this one, too? Ellen Page is in line to be the next Kevin Spacey. The movie has a great double entendre for a title, though. Page looks like a whippet.

    rbatty024, re: Ellen Page

    by bloo

I know this may sound like I'm trying ot be cool because hating on Juno is popular right now, but I really didn't like that movie. It has a certain sweetness and charm to it that is undeniable and JK Simmons was great, I'm still using the "next time I see ___ I'm going to punch him in the weiner" line, but I didn't care at all for the title character herself. I don't know if that is Ellen Page's fault, Diablo Cody's fault or Jason Reitman's fault or even a combonation of all 3, but I really could have done without her. Page didn't impress me enough though that I'll be jumping through hoops to see her next movie like say Amy Adams who really WOWED me in Enchanted. One good role on Page's part that blows me out of the water and I'll be a fan, it's nt something that can't be overcome, but I think as "hyped" up as Juno was, on this site and others, Page's performance didn't live up to expectations

    by bloo

it's being directed by Drew Barrymore, which beyond the description should give you an idea about what it's going to be aboutthat said, Ellen Page isn't a bad choice for a pseduo-Drew herself. that is cute, sweet, jailbaitish, funny with decent timing but not greatI also was just looking at what Roger Ebert said about her performance in Juno and basically he said "is there beena better performance this year" and sorry Roger but yes there has, and it was hte aformentioned Amy Adams in Enchanted, and best actress winner Marion Colltaird (or however you spell her name, I'm not interested)the Juno character herself was actually a pretty stock character in modern charaterzations the "hipster pretty girl" I'll dub it

    Some more about Ellen Page.

    by rbatty024

Bloo and Mosquito are both criticizing Page for her acting, which is perfectly legitimate even if I don't quite agree. What I was complaining about were those who attack Ellen Page the person as smug or condescending. The funny thing about these attack is that they sound like they're criticizing her character, Juno. In fact, I would argue that because people associate her so heavily with her character it means she did a fine job. I haven't read much about Page so I don't know if she is smug, but from what I've read and what little I've seen that doesn't seem to be the case. If you didn't like Juno then criticize the movie, if you think Ellen Page's acting is overrated then criticize that, but don't confuse the character with the actress.

I thought she was good in Hard Candy. Showed her acting chops pretty well imo. However, the more I think about Juno, the less and less I like it. I think it was due to Diablo Cody's writing style and now people like Page less because of her performance in it. I think it's the last we will hear of DC as I highly doubt anyone after a month or so will even care to see anything else by her. But Page will probably be around and hopefully if she doesn't keep taking the same types of roles we might get a really good movie from her

PLEASE, before casting judgement on Ellen Page, watch Hard Candy. Great movie and really great performance.Juno is a great movie marred by some dialogue in two early scenes that is so atrocious that Diablo Cody should be hit in the ribs with her own Oscar statuette. That is all. I dislike that Ellen Page is being made to suffer for it.

Love her or hate her Ellen Page is a very good actress. I think some people just hate her personality. I don't know if you can call that a legitimate criticism but would explain a lot of the nasty backlash I've heard lately. Aside from that no one here can honestly tell me she isn't invested in the moment in the films she's been in. Chances are you hate the casting not the skill.

My lord, what an annoying twee cunt she was. Her fat ass warbling those fucking retarded showtunes at the Oscars was also the most grating moment of television I've ever endured. ...So my barometer may be off somewhat. However I wanted to kick her in the belly in Junebug. I don't think I've ever hated a character for being that plain dumb in my life. I have no idea how Embeth Davidtz character didn't poison that whole goddamn useless clan. I cant believe her husband took her back home to meet that shit. I'd have legally changed my name or faked my death. I don't think I've met a more ingratiating bunch of redneck turds in my life than in that sink hole of a film. Should add that I don't really hate the film, its pretty good actually, but a pretty good look at some of the most useless and horrible fucking trash I've seen put on screen. At first I thought I just loathed the character, but after seeing Enchanted and seeing her pop up in interviews I realise its Adams I actually hate. Its like she always trying to serve me food or run around chasing puppies and kittens and proclaiming how wonderous the day is. I really just want her to get hit by a bus. At least Page is hot and has taste. Even if shes a sarcastic dyke. Better than being a fat sarcastic dyke like Garafolo.

It's always hilarious when people get all upset when some actor/actress they're obsessed with is criticized. But, the Pagers are the worst, because their adoration of her is based in creepy, deep-seated, Lolita-esque ephebiphilia. It's hard not to picture some fat dude sitting in front of his computer, rubbing himself through his pajama bottoms while looking at screen caps from X3, and how he practically loses his mind when somebody attacks Ellen Page, who is so small and so cute and so defenseless in the world without him there to take care of her. If only he could meet her, maybe he could make her understand that she's the one, that nobody will ever love her as much as he does! And how DARE anyone suggest that she is not the most talented and beautiful human being in the world?!
