NEWLY UPDATED!! AICN Games: GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Game Play Footage...Already?!?!

Published at:  Nov 16, 2007 2:24:30 PM CST

Merrick again...

An official website for the game has turned up - including a few more details about the project, as well as several screen grabs.

Thanks to The Shadow for calling it to our attention.

JUMP TO IT!

>>> ORIGINAL REPORT FOLLOWS <<<

Merrick here...

...with a quick follow-up the our previous article about the "GHOSTBUSTERS 3" video game we heard about EARLIER THIS WEEK. This is the game that reunites much of the original cast.

G4 as nabbed some gameplay footage from the project - guess more development has been done on the game than initially believed?

You can check it out HERE.

Or, you can check out a higher-resier version now:

Ya know...no matter how well the game (as a whole) turns out...wrangling those damn ghosts with your proton stream looks very, very fun.

Thanks to Rik27 for the heads up about this.

More info as more comes in.

Because if that footage is real, then it has already assuaged one of my concerns about a ghostbusters game:
The inclusion of Mr. Stay Puft.
And imagine how much fun that shit will be on the Wii! Using your wii-mote as your proton wand? SWEET!

    OK, it's new, yet old.

    by squashua

It's a video game recreation of playable scenes from Ghostbusters I including the Spud scene at the hotel (Slimer), a revisit to the NY Public Library, and Stay Puft (are they dangling him by his legs?). There also appears to be a scene possibly taken from Ghostbusters II in the courtroom. So far, it doesn't appear to be a sequel to the movie franchise, but a playable iteration of the movie events.

The game looks like a hoot already. And when you consider the forthcoming script and the voice talents involved, this game has boatloads of potential. If they factor in multiplayer (as in XBOX LIVE), co-op, etc... then there's no telling how HUGE this game could be.

Good God people, take 5 seconds and use your damn brains. Does it even occur to you that the levels we saw could be some type of bonus/extra? Training levels? Here's an idea, lets decide what the game is and isn't when there's actually enough information available to make that call. Crazy, I know, but it just might work!

This looks way better. And my guess is that it recaps the first two movies in the first level or two. You know, for the kids that unfortunately don't know what Ghostbusters is...yes, I'm as shocked as you are.

So, you play the first bit, get to play some cool scenes from the first two movies for those that know how awesome GB is, and for those that don't, it's like GB 101. Everyone wins.

    They're iconic.

    by zom-bot.com

fact is, they are obviously about to drop the thing NOW. when it started production, i'm sure the ps3 and xbox 360 shit was all still up in the air....they've no doubt retooled the whole thing. if this comes out on wii, i may have to buy a wii.......the most important thing to me with this game will be SOUND. all those trademark proton pack sounds were so pleasing, they better be duplicated just right....as well as the sounds of the destructing environments.....and i don't want any hollow sounding quotes from the first movies- if the gang is involved, hopefully they have scripted and recorded new lines, or at the very least, re-recorded some of the old ones.

    by mel's rockpile

Everybody keeps asking questions here, but check the other AICN link for the Variety details (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117976019.html?categoryid=1009&cs=1) - Most notably, that Ramis and Aykroyd are writing, all four GB's are back, as well as Annie Potts. This is NOT the same footage you think you saw last year. That was a mod. And everybody keeps whining about how this game footage is all from the first film, but I imagine that this was created to "sell" guys like Murray on participating, as well as using it for user-training purposes. I really like the accurate sound effects, great proton-beam control and animation, the completely interactive environments, as well as the equipment accuracy. - Really, they could have fudged that part, but the proton pack and PKE meter are dead-on. Add the voice acting over this and it should be one tight game. And yes, Wii interactivity will be fun, but I'll probably buy this for my 360 for better graphics. Vivendi is making this game (creators of Bloodrayne), so it's not some hack company. I hope this game reinvigorates interest in the GB franchise - it's really a great one.

While I'm excited about the fact that there is going to be a new ghostbusters game, it's most likely going to lick balls. For one it's a licensed game, so they KNOW it will sell, this allows them to put some half assed shit, that they just threw together simp,y because people will buy a ghostbusters game. Need proof one of the best selling games of all time is 50-cent Bulletproof. I just don't have a lot of faith in sierra or Movie Tie in games.

    by shiftyeyeddog2

I'm all for a GB game. LOOOOVE the idea, and love that the original voices and likenesses will be used. But from the footage they've shown (granted it's very little so far) it looks like the game will be way too linear, simply folowing the plot of the first film. I was hoping for more of a GTA-style free-roamer, where you could run into different people and missions, with maybe one overall mission. But if it simply follows film 1,it'll be way too short. (and how about some Player vs Player where one can be the ghosts?!)

This *is* GB3, not a recap of GB1

    by juntmonkey

It takes place in 1991. Towards the beginning of the game some sort of new evil emerges that brings back some familiar foes. Slimer is set loose from the containment unit and makes a beeline for the Sedgwick Hotel's buffet. Ray makes them all head back to the New York Public Library to finally catch "the one that got away". Stay Puft somehow re-emerges. This all happens early on in the game, and it all takes place AFTER GB2. It's not a recap of the other movies.

    Yes, it still can

    by reel american hero

I could've sworn I read on the other GB game talkback that someone was complaining about the game will suck and fail because kids today don't know what Ghostbusters are. These recap portions would fill in those poor kids that don't know anything that didn't come out two years ago in on how awesome Ghostbusters is, and then bring you right into the third story. That's just my guess, but it makes sense. A nice little, Previously, on Ghostbusters moment.

But as far as the title goes...

    by reel american hero

It seems it's just called Ghostbusters, however the story of the game will make up the 'third sequal'. And besides, you wouldn't really want to call a game a sequal to those who don't know what it is. Much like the strange case of Goonies II for the nes back in the day. I don't remember there being any mermaids in the first movie or any of that other stuff.

    Ghostbusters was my childhood..

    by axl z

I'm 27 now but you wouldn't believe the amount that Ghostbusters affected me as a kid. I still pull quotes from it daily without even thinking and thou I'm a little older now and can see the faults in the second film I'm glad they made it. It amazes me that American Pie has received 200+ sequels and yet the worlds number one comedy, of the eighties when it had strong competition, still has only one follow-up.

The cartoon meant alot to me too, would be cool if they had skins that you could unlock so they looked a bit like them, plus there's the whole Lorenzo Music & Bill Murray 'Venkman and Garfield' connection.

    I'm talking gibberish, too exicted!!

    happy memories

    by zom-bot.com

man, i was in first or second grade when GB came out...I was a ghostbuster for like 4 halloweens after that. It gave me nightmares but drew me in at the same time...my mom was awesome, parents today wouldn't let their kids watch something with so much scare, innuendo and smart adult humor in it these days...mostly because they don't make movies like GB anymore!..but she took me twice and GB was like the first VHS tape we ever owned- and played until it BROKE.

This has got to come out on the Wii

    by the dum guy

When I first played the Wii I thought the two best things one should be able to do is: (1) be able to play a Star Wars game that lets you use a light saber and (2) be a Ghostbuster and zap ghost.

since it is considered gb3, they should have bobby brown and ray parker jr collaborate on a song.... seriously though, i hope they use the elmer berstein score and the stuff from it that they didn't use in the first film. i always hated that he didn't return for gb2.

    THEY AREN'T RECAP SCENES

    by juntmonkey

How many times am I going to have to say this? They're not recap scenes, they're new events that take place in 1991. Aykroyd and Ramis came up with a story that would enable Slimer, the Library Ghost, and Stay Puft to come back.

Also the Wii/PS2 game is going to be a different, more cartoony game focused on multi-player.

ACTUALLY... an 80's movie game would be REALLY cool. think about it, you get sucked into a VCR (that's right, i said VCR), kinda like the opening for the captain n cartoon, but you get to run amok throughout various 80's movies... good luck securing all of those rights.

    by mike_d

The lawsuit came about after the first movie came out. They used it in the sequel plus the cartoon series. They used it in the "Be kind, rewind" movie and Ray just performed the song live in national television on "The Singing Bee". I'm sure Hewy will let them use it for a fucking video game.

    by bobo_vision

I always thought, at that moment when Peter gives the example of Hoover, for him to give that example, he would have to be thinking of Hoover, therefore Hoover really should have appeared and destroyed them. And by mentioning Hoover to the other ghostbusters, they would have thought of him too. Its the power of suggestion. Its like if I tell you 'Don't think of oranges'. Guess what you're thinking of right now?

Anyone here besides myself that was a huge fan of the animated series? The first couple seasons of The Real Ghostbusters were top notch. The last few kind of blew as they tried to make the show more light hearted and cheaped out on the animation. Extreme Ghostbusters (LOL) was kind of weak though.

...not bill murray for another ghostbusters movie. the most he agreed to was a shabby cameo if gb3 happened (which its not). also, the guy has publically stated that he wanted gb2 to be called "the death of the ghostbusters". no murray, no venkman, no ghostbusters in my opinion... and the game isn't gb1. check earlier posts on this thread, the slimer level is a training level, the librarian ghost is in the game cuz ray feels they have an old score to settle, and stay-puft appears because, well because he's cool as shit. but the game IS NOT gb1!!!
