UPDATED!! GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Is Finally In Development!?!? But...

Merrick again...
A bit more information about the game is drifting in.
All four members of the movie team -- Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis -- will be giving voice and likeness rights for the game. Some supporting castmembers have signed up as well, including William Atherton, Brian Doyle Murray and Annie Potts. In addition, film scribes Aykroyd and Ramis will pen a story for the vidgame that takes place in the early '90s, after "Ghostbusters II," during a new ghoul invasion of New York City.
...says THIS ARTICLE in Variety. Also, the folks over at Kotaku seem to have scored a rather spectacular image from the game, which you can see HERE. More info as more comes in.

Merrick here...
Seems GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is coming around at last, but not in the way many were anticipating. Game Informer has revealed the cover of its December issue, which you can see HERE! The cover is contextualized thusly:
Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd are getting back together and revisiting their roles to make a sequel to Ghostbusters 1 and 2 – in video-game form, and we’ve got the first details. Both Aykroyd and Ramis are teaming up for scriptwriting duties and are going far beyond just the typical licensed add-your-voice-to-the-game-you-had-nothing-to-do-with formula.
The write-up accompanying the cover image also says this project is unrelated to the footage that hit the Nets earlier this year...spectacular material which seemed to be built around the Unreal engine. This is an interesting direction for the franchise. It's not as altogether cool as having a new movie to wait for (although I didn't think the second film was particularly good), but it does seem preferable to restarting the mythos with a new cast (or something like that). Presumably Monki from AICN Games will have more on this project as it develops...
