A New DARK KNIGHT Image Is Kinda Blah!! But Will A New Challenge Lead To Better Pay Off??

Published at:  Nov 01, 2007 1:38:18 PM CDT

Merrick here...

Remember a while back, when the first clear image of Heath Ledger as the Joker was revealed by http://www.ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com/ via a slowly depixelating political campaign poster?

That was cool.

For many days now, there's been a carved pumpkin graphic on a new site. Heat from the candle inside was slowly melting away half of its face, leading to widespread speculation that THE DARK KNIGHT's version of Two Face would finally be revealed.

Turns out that...when all is said and done...we ended up with a picture of...

...The Joker. Again. Riding in a car this time.

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH, exciting! And...you know...hardly worth the wait. A fantastic build up to very little pay off; hope the movie doesn't follow suit.

HOWEVER, there's new campaign underway, which could feasibly garner greater reward if we jump through the right hoops. FIND DETAILS HERE.

Sorry this info is a tad delayed; tech issues thwarting site updating.

    by fawst

This is such bullshit, the fucking Joker is almost as tired as Batman. Nicholson killed the character, now we're gonna get Heath "I was supposed to play Mad Max's son" Ledger in the role? Fucking WEAK. You know why there's a black dildo there? Cuz the Joker is teh G@yn3ss!This moment of sarcasm brought to you by Fawst. Seriously, that's a great image and I don't understand why people keep whining about it. Nothing against you Merrick, but that is our first OFFICIAL shot of him from the film. Yah, we'e seen the unofficial stills (which look incredible), but this is sweetness. THAT man would scare me. Nicholson just made me laugh, and not because of his comments regarding rhubarb.

that we see holding what looks like a black dildo. They are far too small to be his hands and the dildo looking thing is too big to be his finger. You can see the thumbs line up clearly on each hand s though the dwarf is in the seat well facing Ledger.

That image is awesome. Seriously, this is ANYTHING but a let down. This is probaly the clearest shot we have of the joker, and it's great. This version of the Joker is actually pretty damn scary. And to go along with that (awesome) picture we got from whysoserious.com, we got another audio clip of the joker talking, which was also pretty damn scary sounding.

    by jaggedsac

IGN posted a story that said that these messages were on the site as well. Sounds pretty cool that Joker is fucking with Batman like this.

"The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules."

You can even hear a cryptic recording of Joker saying, "Tonight, you're gonna break your one rule."

But that's not all: check out the new viral marketing site Rory's Death Kiss, a play on the Dark Knight production's not so secret codename of Rory's First Kiss, for a new challenge from The Joker. His latest message reads, "Patience is a virtue, but who wants to be virtuous? It's time to get this little show of mine on the road. Anyone can wear a mask on Halloween. It's what they skin off your face the rest of the year that really slays an audience."

I picked it up on DVD in a moment of weakness and watched it alone one Friday night, with a fire roaring and a glass of wine. I was blown away. Excellent, excellent movie. I'm holding no expectations for the sequel and am just going to enjoy the thing. I didn't much care for the first movies at all ... though that Nicole Kidman with straight hair was a pretty nice treat.

    by reel american hero

But seriously, the pics revealed so far, and the flash mob as marketing tool is pretty nifty in my opinion. It's a lot better than just saying, see our movie, see our movie, SEE...OUR....MOVIE.

And as far as Heath Ledger as The Joker, I think he's going to do a great job, the voice seems to be evocative of a mix of the Jack Nicholson and Mark Hammil versions with something else to make it different at the same time. As far as the makeup is concerned, since they're doing these Batman flicks in a more realistic setting, the standard vat of chemicals=green hair and clown face thing wouldn't really fit, so I'm cool with the theatrical psycho version of the character.

    Two Face won't be revealed!

    by zandunga

I don't understand why people were expecting two-face: since Dent changes at least halfway through the movie, if not towards the very end, it's one of the film's big reveals (as opposed to the Joker, who appears as is throughout). We get to know Dent, follow him through the screen, and then he becomes something else. We'd just be walking in with the image of two-face in our mind if we had gotten official shots first. Besides, a stupid photo is no match for a trailer, which is what I hope we'll get after the Joker pics are sent in (although the site doesn't specify where to send them to). If it's not a trailer, a poster would make more sense, although that sucks too in comparison - it'll just be a shot of Batman in some cool pose (like many we've already seen), and beneath him, "The Dark Knight". Oh yay, what a treat...please, after all these hoops, a trailer is the least they can give, or at least the Wizard World footage.

Exactly. I understand what they were trying to do, and if they'd just let the fucken movie be longer(at 2 1/2, why not?) then at least there would have been a little more breathing room and shit wouldn't have gotten so fucked. For instance, why when Peter sees Mary Jane is trouble, does he take the time to stare at his suit at home, then go to Harry's for a chat before he goes to rescue her? Can he not see that she is in immediate danger. That totally fucked the thrill and the pacing for me. I still love Raimi as a director though. The first half was all him.

    by beaverduck

I was especially disappointed with the way they wrapped up Harry's storyline. Did his butler need to tell him? No. Did he really need to know for sure that Peter did not kill him? No. He could have made a surprise visit, Han Solo style, and come to the rescue for Mary Jane's sake. It could have had nothing to do with Peter. He could still have been like, "fuck you Peter, I'm here for MJ!"

Man Tommy Lee is like in Every movie!

    by series7

I didn't realize they were bringing back Tommy Lee's Two Face from (My choice for the Best Batman todate) for this one? I like Batman Forever because Val Kilmer nailed it. And for anyone that like George Clooney, they need to see Batman and Robin and realize how full of himself he is, that he thought he could be Batman? Ruins any movie he's ever made (except 3 kings, best movie of his hand down). As far as Jack's Butt Buddy as the Joker, couldn't they get an actor the has the ability to act? I mean Jude Law would have been a better choice? Well will see if Heth can do it, I want him to I mean Bman Begains was amazing, especially stoned. But can we strike oil twice? No other director has been able to? Yeah Returns was alright but not half as good as Batman, and we all know about 3 and 4.

i haven't been here all that long, but it seems to be true: AICN seems to have something against this batman franchise....read the front page and you won't find another editorial opinion in a blurb except this one "the image is kinda BLAH"...the only other opinions come from spies or early reviewers...so what is it AICN has against this series? Nolan not pay them enough to kiss ass like JJ did? Cloverfield hasn't given us SHIT but they are all intrigued by the mystery. This campaign is more about fun and involvement than payoff. Maybe they want a downloadable copy of TDK at the end of this game? c'mon. deal.

    Dancing Peter...

    by beaverduck

..sucked because, inlike the "Raindrops keep falling" sequence from the second one, Peter was acting out of character. I know some will argue that's the point of the black suit and that it made him act that way, but that shouldn't mean he can suddenly play piano and dance like a pro. In the "Raidrops" sequence he was acting normal with a goofy song played over, but in 3 he was just goofy and out of character for me.

What gives with this article? A kinda boring pic is released and that is somehow extrapolated into a boring pic? I can grab a boring picture out of ANY movie made. Let's not jump to wondering if the movie is going to suck because a boring picture is out there... sheesh... dumb. I liked Spiderman 3. And the Transformers. I didn't like The Fantastic 4 flicks, much. There was no urge to punch a baby though. Babies are cute as long as they're not wailing. Unless it's a realllly ugly baby...

The problem with Spider-Man 3 only started at pacing...

    by iamnicksaicnsn

But the quickness of the film wasn't the only problem. I mean, obviously all the characters were marginalized, but Raimi still didn't really get Venom and made him fucking retarded. And the dialogue was Star Wars prequel level, as was the acting (Harry's death as an example). I think I even hated the score, really overbearing, if I remember correctly, but I ultimately refuse to ever watch it again. Just total, total garbage. AND WHAT ABOUT THOSE STUPID FUCKING DANCE SEQUENCES?

    Venom

    by 5 by 5

I don't get Venom, nor why anyone would care about how much he is "understood" or whatever. He's like the lamest idea for a bad guy ever... "wow, let's take Spider-Man and make him evil" is essentially the idea. And from what I understand he's like one of the more popular villains in the comic book. I don't get it. So I don't care how much there was about him in the movie. He made a great bad-guy in the flick (which surprised me, because again I don't care about Venom), just as the Sandman did, just as Harry's Green goblin did.

    Ads need wider focus

    by live.

The movie will be awesome, but I'm worried the ad campaign is too dark, making the movie look like Saw or Hostel. Those types of flicks are popular right now, but their BO tops out way below what Batman needs to do. WB needs to release pics of the other characters or set designs to change the tone from slasher flick to action-adventure movie.

I think this movie is going to be awesome. I love the idea of this basically turning into a Batman Vs. The Joker gang war with all the copycat taking sides. That's so original. by aicndoesntwantmorecowbell

i wouldve liked it better if (and im not going to in depth, here im fuckin tired) it went something like harry really did die or just been hurt really badly when he threw the bomb at him but he didnt care for the moment due to the suits power over him. but then when he hits mary jane (cut that dance scene out they couldve just had a normal but slightly goofy type of dance that couldve made mj mad not him playing a piano and stealing drinks) he relizes what he did and so he takes the suit off and blah blah blah yadda whatever. or they couldve just had harry take care of sandman mostly so we could see peter and venom fight. VENOM RULES HOW CAN YOU GIVE HIM 15 MINUTES OF SCREEN TIME THEN KILL HIM? and why does harry keep saying he sucks when harry liked jar jar binks? and he gave a good review to the blair witch project 2. Is Joker talking to Batman. The rule is simple. Batman never kills. So this is obviously a thought out scheme of death. He's basically saying "I'm going to make you kill someone tonight Batman." Which seems very Jigsaw in a way. What if Joker makes Batman kill Rachel?

The scary fucking part of the Joker is that if he's in the mood, he's gonna kill ya, you have no idea when or how but its gonna happen, he may just shoot you, or he may have a little fun with it, that is the scary part, he is so nuts that not even his crew are safe.

with all those pictures released of random people going around dresed up as batman Im thinking its more likely that the Joker is planning to frame Batman by making it LOOK like Bats killed someone- therefore making everyone in Gotham think he's some other nutjob with a mask. It explains that picture of a batman dummy being burnt by a mob.which is quite Penguin in Batman Returns but Im hoping for even better than that.

    by spidermanfreak20

Mob wants Batman dead because he ruins their business. The Mob hires Joker to deal with Batman after his successful robbery and double homicide. It makes more sense that in his encounters he wonders why with all the gadgets Batman doesn't have a gun and kill any of the goons. Only to realize that Batman's one rule is also his greatest weakness. In the leaked photos Batman was left alone in an interrogation room with Joker and he was knocking him out. Which means Joker has pushed Batman to the limit (by killing someone Rachel?) or is looking for information on someone (Rachel kidnapped...Gordon's daughter?) and Joker is just laughing it off. Joker reminds me alot of the white guy Kevin Costner pushed off the building in The Untouchables. Capone hires him to deal with the dirtyside and Costner's friend ends up dead because of him. Napier seems the same way. He knows he too will beat the "rap" and get off since Gotham is so corrupted and the Judges will just push an insanity plea. Maybe Joker is trying to get himself pushed off a roof as well.

    Prediction time

    by pipple

Let's have a little fun shall we. I predict that this, like batman begins, will incite an online uproar over its accuracy to the source material in which many nerds will heatedly debate for months and months... afterwhich, cooler heads will prevail and many will realize the film was merely average, not worthy of the incessant arguments... the vox populi?

It was ok, but too cliche, the third act was below par, and the onliners were cringe worthy.

    The Joker is NOT insane

    by movietool

At least, he wasn't originally. INSANE implies that he has no understanding of the difference between right and wrong (hence the insanity defense). The Joker should be fully aware that what he's doing is hurting people - he just doesn't care. He's hyper intelligent - perhaps as intelligent as Batman himself, but he refuses to check himself. What he desires he does, no matter who it hurts. Such a person could be labeled HOMICIDAL and SOCIOPATHIC, perhaps even MANIACAL, but not INSANE or PSYCHOTIC. An insane or psychotic person has trouble keeping their thoughts together, which doesn't gel with the Joker's constant ability to go intellectually toe-to-toe with Batman. That's just my take on The Joker, though. Obviously the modern incarnation of the character is a bit different.

    by spidermanfreak20

It'd be cool to see Harvey Dent be a two faced DA where Bruce would think he was this incorruptible figure only to find out he was working for Salvatore Maroni (kind of like Nancy Pelosi :) we'd find out Harvey killed Rachel for snooping around and seeing Salvatore is the friends that paid for his campaign he'd off her accidentally Flint Marko style then blame Joker (cuz its obvious her character is gonna die in this one duh) he'd get the drop on Batman possibly having him tied down in an inescapable situation by binds (Robocop 2) only to have Joker save Batman by pouring acid on the binds and have it hitting Harvey's face.

I didn't even dream of that being a possibility. If they can introduce the Joker and take care of the mistake that is Rachel, then the terrorists haven't won. Also, I don't care what you say, but Spider-man 3 was the most comic-booky movie of the three. Stop trying to church up superheroes and make them realistic, and give me over-the-top costume on costume fights.

Joker turning on Maroni. Seeing as the trailer implies that he hired him to take down Batman and didnt realise the Joker was a completely impulsive maniac who does whatever he wants. So the Joker does something completely crazy that fucks up Maroni's business somehow and when he calls in to see him Maroni gives him an ear full. Naturally the Joker doesnt take orders from ANYBODY so he just kills Maroni and takes over.....seems like the kind of thing that would happen. Dont know about Dent being a corrupt DA though-I like the Long Halloween vibe their going for which indicates that Harv will become a great friend of Bats before he's transformed-making it much more of an emotional tragedy.

as for HOW Dent become two face

    by rocklobster800

Im hoping its durng the final fight where Batman and the Joker are duking it out at the chemical plant. Harv shows up (and its been established that he has a tendency to fly the handle)to help. He's really stressed with trying to take down the mob AND the Joker so he's been driven to bring a gun and off the guy himself. Batman intervenes and tries to talk him out of it, giving Mr. J the oppurtunity to set off an explosion that releases pouring acid all over the place and Harvey gets drenched in half of it, and is taken to hospital in critical condition. Mean while when Bats and The Joker resume fisticuffs Joker opts out and throws himself into a vat of chemicals to escape. The plant starts to burn down, Batman escapes, but Joker isnt found. Therefore you have an epilogue of Harvey waking up in hospital, and seeing himself-his mind instantly goes out the window. Cut to somewhere where the Joker is recovering with a doctor and looks in the mirror-he's got chemical burns and completely white skin-cue maniacal laughing which fades to Batman and Gordon on a rooftop-Bats blames himself for what happened to Harvey but him and Gordontry to press on. roll on part 3!

    Lobster Face

    by spidermanfreak20

You'd just need a logical reason as to how a DA would know about the Chemical Plant robbery? It's not like police call up DA's and say "Hey robbery in progress." So unless he's like Spider-Man with a police radio it seems out of character. The only solution is of course he's two face and was there at the wishes of Maroni.

if its the final fight the place could be swarming with police already, but its too big so everyones all over the place....or that the fight has been spanning the city and Dent decided to follow where Batman goes, which ends up at the`plant. Hopefully Nolan and co have come up with a better idea anyway!

  • ...actually it's the other way around. Eric Draven looks like The Joker. The very first appearance of Joker is what they went with here; thus The Crow looks like the Joker. The original Joker had black around his eyes and of course was white with red lips. The hair was different but if you compare this new Joker image with the original Batman #1 panel that has been posted many times, he looks exactly like him. There's actually an alternate version of the new shot with that panel put over the driver's head and the resemblance is uncanny.

Detective #27 is the most valuable Batman comic. That was his first appearance and he was in that series from then on and to this day. Batman and Detective Comics are the main two series. I'm sure Batman #1 is way the Hell up there, though in terms of value. There was a recent article on Fox New website about a guy who bought a near-mint copy of Detective 27 from some guy who found it in an attic. The article said it's worth $250,000.

    Nicholson's Joker

    by mattyboy122

Looks WAY more like the original Joker. They both have normal hair, wear similar clothing, and the skin coloring doesn't look shoddily put-together (although it's intentionally that way with Ledger, I'm sure). What's more, Nicholson's Joker may not have had black around his eyes, but there is a change in color around his eyes. Nolan's Joker is inspired by the original Joker in his actions (one presumes), but the appearance is way different.

Just remember that movie for a second. See, we're all spoiled now because the last Batman movie was Batman Begins, a good (but not perfect) Batman film. So now for some people if something doesn't conform to their exact ideal of the charachters should be, they piss and moan. If you have a problem with the previews of the charachters, just think of Arnold Schwarzenegger, walking around in polar bear slippers, sporting a sparkling robe ripped straight out of Liberacci's wardrobe. I think you'll see find that this Joker's look isn't that bad.

months back there was filming of a car bomb scene, and sprinkling down from the explosion was playing cards...the pics were posted on BOF (but may have been since removed due to their strict no-spoiler policy). a person watching the filming took the pics and reported they shot a scene where rachael and harvey were getting in the car. they did several takes that all ended as soon as harvey got in. then they shot an identical car getting blown up. so there you go. racheal dies, harvey is severely burned on his side that entered the car. real car bombs are more explosive flame than shrapnel btw.

    by spencertrilby

Iron Man looks good but every damn blockbuster's promotion has its moments, when EVERY piece of trailer/picture released so far leads to one conclusion: it CANNOT fail. And then it sucks. No matter how the promotion was handled.

Now, if you check the FACTS, the proven track record of people involved, TDK is in every way at least as exciting as Iron Man, the latter's only trump card being its fresh flavor. Yes, it's a hero nerver-seen-before on the big screen. Yes, it's not a sequel. Yes, there isn't any Schumacher previous episode casting its ugly shadow upon it... But for fuck's sake Favreau is a former sitcom actor who directed lame comedies or lamer kiddie movies while Nolan made Following (a kickass first feature), Memento (an insanely original flick), Insomnia (one of the few interesting remakes around) and Batman Begins (love it or hate it, it was an interesting endeavour, and an amazing foretaste of things to come).

So, if people around here don't think this is interesting enough, or draw conclusions about a fucking scavenger hunt before it's even finished... well, in the immortal words of Clubber Lang: "I pity the fools".

THIS MOVIE WILL SUCK!!!If they can't get a decent enough actor to play The Joker, the whole movie falls apart. Ledger's "biggest" name role before this was playing a gay sheepherder. I'm sorry, but that DEFINITELY doesn't not qualify him to play the scariest and craziest villian in comicdom. And seeing as PROVEN actors like Adrian Brody (who actually LOOK the part) actively fought for the role, that makes the decision to cast Brokeback Balding Heath all the more painful.Iron Man's gonna kick this movie's rectum... :(

Prequels, Sequels, and what the hell were they thinking movies that have destroyed franchises that I have loved. Star Wars. Halloween. Nightmare on Elm Street. Alien. Lethal Weapon. Star Trek. Child's Play. Rocky V. Godfather III, "Like Dad, I'm Dead." They even made a sequel to The Dirty Dozen. If ever there was a more appropriate time for a writer's strike, now would be that time. Screw those hacks! Bring in some fresh blood. Bring in some writers to Hollywood that aren't just going to write by the numbers! Bring in some writers that actually have respect for great films! They made a sequel to The Graduate for Christ's sake! Starring Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Costner. Jesus!

Then you've got JJ Abrams and Jon Faverau, two directors who have proved themselves as purveyors of cinematic awesomeness on no occasions, but any time some Cloverfield or Iron Man stuff appears everyone fills their fucking shorts. this has already influenced the comic

    by laserhead

Grant Morrison wrote an issue last year where the Joker turned more psychotic, killed all his former henchmen, and CUT A SMILE into his face with a scalpel, mimicking the look of Ledger's joker.

    it didn't influence the comic...

    by jfp2007

...this was already done well before anyone knew what the Joker, even Nolan, would look like. They pulled the cut concept from this, and the dark circles and overall look and tone of the character from the Batman #1 version (and a few others mainly The Long Halloween, The Killing Joke, and whatever that one story was that reinvented the character as a henchmen killing maniac).

    bermejo joker

    by zom-bot.com

i'm tellin' ya- just google bermejo joker and you'll see how lee bermejo's version is the basis for the new look....and for all the complainers, it needs to be explained that almost everything else in these movies is an amalgam of the choicest parts from the entire comic series. condensed, if you will. people who complained about the tumbler never realized how much it resembled the bat-tank from miller's dark knight comic...it's also obvious that the new joker is pretty much a mix of every joker version ever, except the make-up, which is the realistic aspect. the nolan crew knows they can pretty much only get a 3 picture deal, but want to use their most favorite batman stories and combine them into one trilogy...which is why we see elements of miller's dark knight, the long halloween, batman #1, year one, arkham asylum, etc..... it's a difficult task but i think they are handling it.....

..and you guys are calling it "blah"? Let me guess, you miss the moustache clearly showing under the makeup. Or it lacks the wit of a short, portly guy dancing and hootin' and hollerin' to Prince music. Or,perhaps we need an epic climax:
Joker: I just killed a thousand people, but it was all for my daughter.
    Batman: I forgive you.

    by rocklobster800

I honestly dont know how people can complain....I mean if people want a fantasy, crazy version of Batman, you have the comics, cartoons even a prior film series that did that. And theyre GOOD too-well most of em. If Nolan wants to take it down a realistic road as an experiment-seeing as Batman is the most realistic of the super heroes-then fair play to him.Its not the first and it wont be the last incarnation of the bat in our lifetime believe me. Its something NEW onscreen at least and it paid off well in Begins (except for Scarecrow, but that was only cos he didnt have enough screentime). I dont get the early complaints about the Joker here either-I mean I wanted Crispin Glover as much as the next guy, but Heath was chosen and I got over it because Chris Nolan has yet to make a bad film-not a one. If he see's the Joker in Heath I trust him. and as for the design, okay I would have preferred short hair-but from the begins vibe Im surprised the made the guy as flamboyant as he is. So he only wears makeup-still looks like the joker to me. the kind of derranged loon who would cut a smile into his face, and would happily kill anyone merely for "the joke". If you want the Joker , well hes got dwarf henchmen for Christ sake and look at his clothes-those scenes of him in the interrogation room-wearing exactly what Mr. J would wear, looking EXACTLY like I would imagine only its greasepaint. Initially I was gutted with him wearing the makeup-I dont get why he couldnt have chemical burns and paled down skin-but looking at those pictures, I got over it cos he looks messed up. Crazy even.Like, yknow the Joker. the neatness of the clothes shows how vain he is, yet the rest of him is as chaotic as his personality, and he may even think it looks good. Trust me I have plenty of greasy, long haired diluded mates who reckon theyre Gods gift-and theyre not even vicious sociopaths...well one is. Any who from this entire viral marketing campaign, the way the Joker is written seems spot on to me-the red writing echoeing Arkham Asylum's font, the Long Halloween-esque Jack O latern-theres a clear respect for the source material there, and if Nolan and co and the ones writing those messages then theyve got the Joker spot on. Bale nailed Wayne (his Batman growl is a little silly but can be ironed out) and it looks to me (from these very early indications)like theyve captured the Joker. All I cay is-roll on July. End rant. This is waht I do with m time between lectures man.

no, by the time the morrison joker issue came out

    by laserhead

they knew what the movie joker would look like. It was before it was revealed to the world at large, but the production team had the look picked out. And they didn't get the 'cut-face' idea from Batman #1, or any other Batman comic. The joker's mouth has never been cut until he did it himself in Morrison's Batman comic which came out a year ago.

Seriously, the makeup Ledger's wearing is pure garbage. He looks horrible and completely uninspiring. THAT'S why so many people are feeling so unenthusiastic so soon.GIVE us something to be excited about, like Iron Man AND Cloverfield have, and we will. Right now, all Nolan's given us are crummy-looking photos of the Joker, played by a guy that NO ONE wanted for the role in the first place.Until "Dark Knight" ups the ante and shows us something worthwhile, my phaser's set on "Meh."

    by brians life

I don't know BSB or Brokeback Cowboy, as I'm not as symbiotic with this site as most.
I believe that immediate hatred of some one due to there race, creed or culture is quite ignorant and I'm sure I'm not alone on that AND I'm also not accusing anyone of that. I'm well aware of Israel and it's history and the history of the Jewish people...I'm not one of the many Americans who simply believe that Israel has ALWAYS been a nation. Now as far as your Old Testament defense, well now that depends on whether you believe that or not. Simply saying that "God said this was our land" is not convincing to some one that doesn't recognize that God and also, if we're quoting the Old Testament I believe that Israel was supposed to be "a land with no people for a people with no land." Which it certainly was not and ALOT of religious scholars will agree that massing in the Holy Land in pre-messianic age is a repudiation of Judaism. While I agree that Judaism is a unique religion, due to the fact that it crosses into the boundaries of culture and ethnicity....however equating the principles of Judaism and the policies of Israel is reckless and prone to disaster. Israel IS a nation and therefore must be held responsible for it's decisions AS a nation. This "new wave of Jew hater" you discuss, I am hoping you are not speaking of those that are simply critical of Israel, 'cause I DO NOT believe that warrants the title of "Anti-Semite" which is something that Israel and AIPAC are using so often it's developing no meaning.

WAY TO KILL A TALKBACK, ANCHORITE

    by bringingsexyback

Being a vicious Muslim-hater, you're really in no position to judge anyone on prejudices. Any and all of your views are thoroughly biased and therefore meaningless.

Brians Life made a great counterpoint to your blatantly racist Zionist views. All along, Israel's been advertising itself as the only 'democracy' in the Mideast, a utopia of Jews and Arabs living side by side (and in some cases, really do), although the truth was that it is an apartheid society. Now trudges along Anchorite to lecture us about Eretz Israel and God's intent for Israel to be a Jewish-only nation, without even a mention of the displacement of an entire people from their land to accomplish your selfish goal. Well, at least you're honest about your racism. Surely it explains why Israel has treated the Palestinians in a way that would make Hitler envious.

People like you, Anchorite, are a disease in this world. You're no different from the hateful Jihadists or White Supremecists.

    ANCHORITE

    by bringingsexyback

believe the following statement by Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss effectively eradicates your attempt at linking Judaism to Zionism. Shame on you for even trying, for all you are accomplishing (and by Zionist design) is worldwide condemnation of Jews for the actions of Zionists.

New York City, September 23, 2007

Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss issued the following statement on the eve of the group's meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

"It is always our pleasure to visit with President Ahmadinejad. This will be the third such meeting, in addition to our many visits to Iran in the past. We have each time emphasized to the Iranian leadership that, despite media hysteria and the statements of some misinformed Jews, we have found the Iranian people and their leaders to be friendly and respectful."

"Likewise, although we as Jews are not to be involved in politics, (According to Jewish law, Jewish people are required to be loyal citizens to the countries wherein they reside), We have found the Iranian President to be a deeply religious man, dedicated to a peaceful world, based on mutual respect, fairness and dialogue."

"Judaism seeks peace. Unfortunately, there are some Jews today, influenced by the barely century old, philosophy of Zionism, who feel that the proper Jewish response to enemies, be they real or fantasized, is aggression and calls for violence and unfortunately attempts to drag other nations down the path of war."

"It as sad that so few have actually attempted to speak to the Iranian President or seek the true opinion of Iranian Jewry who live in peace and practice their faith throughout that nation. We have met this man who has demonstrated time and again that he is sincerely interested in the well being of Iran's Jewish community and has deep respect for world Jewry and their Torah faith, The Zionist attempt to socially isolate this man and his people is immoral and disastrous"

"Zionism is antithetical to Torah beliefs. It believes in creating our own sovereign entity which is expressly forbidden due to the Divine decree of exile. This ideology leads to aggression against nations and is incarnated in the State of "Israel". This State continually oppresses other people in the name of Judaism and the entire Jewish people. This movement has exacerbated anti Semitism throughout the world. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad understands this distinction between traditional Judaism and Zionist distortion."

"We view our approach to Iran as a model for all Jews and all mankind. The Torah is the Almighty's blueprint of mercy and justice for all creation. We have followed this modal in our dealings with the Iranian President and found in him an individual dedicated to these same ideals. There is much to be gained by talking and listening and everything to be lost by raising the rhetoric in the direction of war." Â The grave tragedy of our era is the inordinate power garnered by Zionism, whose acceptance of force as the only means to reconcile conflicts, has influenced some to abandon Torah fundamentals. We hope and pray that they too will adopt the traditional Jewish approach of dialogue, respect and reconciliation."

"War is a horrible thing. The dark clouds of a future conflict are now on the horizon in the Middle East. Torah Jewry hopes and prays that this may yet be averted."

In conclusion says Rabbi Weiss, "Out of great respect to the Iranian Nation and their leadership we proudly welcome the Honorable President Ahmadinejad to New York, WELCOME!"

    Heath Ledger = Terrible Choice

    by cyclo

A year from now, people will be talking about how terrible Heath Ledger was as The Joker. Please explain to me just what exactly about Heath Ledger's career screams The Joker? Where have all the good casting directors gone? From the pitiful cast of Superman Returns to the pitiful cast of the new Star Trek movie, to the pitiful cast of the new Justice League movie, to the pitiful casting of unattractive, god-awful lead actresses time and time again (Kate Bosworth, Kirsten Dunst... woof!), casting these days is just getting worse and worse...

Considering that you didn't see any footage

    by spencertrilby

I wonder how you can so boldly affirm that he's a terrible choice. Nothing in his career "screams The Joker"??? Wow, that's a very open-minded way to envision the casting procedure. Just because an actor is unexpected doesn't mean he'll be bad, unless you were present during the casting sessions, hmm? No you weren't.

You remind me of these people getting all wet with the Bob Downey casting for Tony Stark because "a former addict is a fitting choice to play an alcoholic", or other ignorant bullshit like this. Downey's been cast because he's a fucking great actor, PERIOD. No respectable director (and former actor, no less) would cast someone because of his real life antics; nor would he cast a guy because his "past career" leads to the role, and ONLY for that reason. Nicholson was great in Batman, but it was hardly a "performance", and thus a poor casting decision from a strict CASTING P.O.V. Which doesn't change the fact that it was, on a CINEMATIC P.O.V, pure genius.
