Learn Who Will Direct NBC's KNIGHT RIDER TV Movie/Backdoor Pilot!! You May Have Seen His Work Already!!

Published at:  Oct 23, 2007 8:05:11 AM CDT

Merrick here...

Somehow, this one slipped through the cracks over the last few days, but we thought it was still worth mentioning all the same...

Last week, we reviewed the teleplay for NBC's forthcoming KNIGHT RIDER TV movie/backdoor pilot. Surprisingly, the script was promising. You can read that review HERE.

Seems a director has now been chosen to drive the project.

THE BAD NEWS? It's NOT Doug Liman, as some had hoped/conjectured. For those unfamiliar with his work, Liman directed the first BOURNE movie (Executive Producing subsequent installments), directed MR. & MRS. SMITH, and helmed the forthcoming JUMPER [TRAILER HERE]. Liman will only act as Executive Producer on KNIGHT RIDER.

THE GOOD NEWS? They went out and got themselves a high-end TV director. His name is Steve Shill. Shill has brought AICN readers some of their favorite & most discussed shows. He's directed for series like THE SOPRANOS, ROME, THE WEST WING, THE TUDORS, and DEADWOOD.

Pretty damn cool.

Can it be...is it even vaguely feasible...that KNIGHT RIDER will actually be groovy by the time all is said and done? Stranger things have happened, and so far indications are promising.

More to come as more comes in.

Season 3 BSG in April 2008

    by ayii

According to the Rumor Mill at The Digital Bits, their sources say April 2008 for US/Canada release. Stupid, I know, but in other regions where Season 3 has been released it's missing deleted scenes, Ron Moore's commentary and the Resistance webisodes. I'd rather wait to have these, but you would think they would have wanted this to hit DVD before season 4. That's Universal for you.

Well at least on paper is sounds promising and BSG came out pretty good too. I have only seen 1 episode of Bionic Woman, so I can't comment.

So what show to be remade next??? Manimal, Misfits of Science?

    by sprout

The guy has made some quality TV, this is looking promising if they keep a lot of the elements from the script, even the "transforming" sounds like it might be cool... hopefully in the pilot KITT will disguise himself as a 80s TransAm if only for a couple of minutes!

    I loved Knight Rider

    by slone13

But I really don't give a shit about any of the new versions they're working on. Just like the Bionic Woman, the IDEA of the show, while great, is extremely dated, even in 2007. And a new "updated" version is just going to be silly.

Merrick's inexplicable enthusiasm for Knight Rider

    by newc0253

listen dude, i'm as nostalgic as anyone for bad 80s TV but, seriously, Knight Rider?

i mean, does anyone think a remake will somehow acheive BSG greatness? at the end of the day, it's David Hasselhoff and a talking fricking car.

this will reek worse than death.

  • We've all been following the development of the series and for those who haven't – well, they will search and find out the details for themselves. Every article you post has to trace the history of the relevant project from its inception up until the minute piece of news that you posted the article in order to impart. We don't need to know that Doug Liman directed THE BOURNE IDENTITY and the upcoming JUMPER (with a bloody trailer link to boot) if he ISN'T DIRECTING the thing! Sheesh.

Hopefully it's not another Bionic Woman

    by oceanic86

BSG = good, Bionic Woman = bad. This will most likely be the latter, but I'll give it the same chance I gave the aformentioned two shows: three episodes. BSG hooked me with the miniseries, and the show held me. Bionic Woman was just crap. It didn't disappoint me, because I wasn't expecting much.
