Can We Survive...The War Of The KNIGHT RIDERs?!?! Dueling K.I.T.T. Projects Brace For Head-On Collision!!

Merrick here...
This has been an odd week for Geeks.
We had the bizarre and ill-conceived theft of Spielbergian tech and paperwork related to INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, there were RUMORS and apparent CONFIRMATION that (sigh) Brett Ratner has replaced Len Wiseman as the director of the ESCAPE FOR NEW YORK remake.
And now…this…
I’ll streamline matters as much as possible; just know that the situation is far more complex than I’m presenting here. I’m only conveying the nuts and bolts of the matter.
As you no doubt recall, there’s this show called KNIGHT RIDER, created by Glen A. Larson (the original BATTLESTAR GALACTICA). It was about a dude named Michael Knight who drives around in a futuristic supercar solving mysteries, fighting crime, and battling badguys. It was on NBC back in the 80s.
As we’ve PREVIOUSLY REPORTED, Creator Larson has been hard at work developing a KNIGHT RIDER feature film for The Weinstein Company. KR is to be reinvented, modernized, the works. This project has been in play for some time.
So, it came as a big surprise last week when NBC announced a new KNIGHT RIDER television project – a 2hr movie/backdoor pilot.
WTF?
In short: word on the street says that Universal/NBC own the television rights to KNIGHT RIDER; Larson owns the film rights. Uni/NBC wanted Larson to dump the Weinsteins and set-up his KR project with them. When Larson didn’t budge, NBC launched a television project with the intent of counteracting, or altogether diffusing, Larson and The Weinstein Company’s movie plans.
Here’s what’s interesting: Larson & TWC’s movie plans are still very much in play. Here’s a video announcement by Larson, screened recently at KNIGHTCON 2007 in the UK. If I understand my timeline, this predates NBC’s TV announcement.
To shed a little more light on the matter, my man Victor Kros sent along the following message:
Greetings,
You can refer to me as Victor Kros. Some of you may know me as the one who was the first to officially debunk the Knight Teaser poster on AICN - a fan released featuring a Koenigsegg CCX, which spread across the internet like wildfire.
Days later the creator admitted that it was just a joke and that he was surprised no one noticed the steering wheel was on the wrong side. (you can avoid this just by posting a link to the original article I’m sure)
Others may recognize my name from recent posts I have made on several Knight Rider fan forums and IMDb boards to assure the fans that Glen is still working on getting the live action Knight Rider movie to the big screen.
I’ve come today however to give AICN the first exclusive footage that proves Glen has been finishing the script and fully intends on getting the film into production. This footage was taped exclusively for the fans of the recent UK event called Knightcon 07 and shown only to those who attended the event.
It features a message from Glen A Larson thanking the fans for their 25 years of support to keep his dream that “One man, (and his car) can indeed make a difference” alive.
It also contains the first glimpse of pre-production art used for the script approval process.
In light of the recent Knight Rider TV series announcement released by NBC/Universal, Glen has decided to release this footage (ABOVE) to the general public to assure the fans out there, his version of the movie is moving forward.
If this series is created by Universal, it is not being created to revive the series nor is it to draw in new viewers or for the fans. This series is Universal's attempt to couple together a sub-par rushed project and attach a big name to it with intentions to try and sideline the movie Glen has been working endlessly on getting to the big screen.
This series will not be Glen's vision; it will most likely be another train wreck waiting to happen like the other knock off shows Universal has churned out such as Knight Rider 2000, 2010, and TKR.
I have noticed that recently fans have been asking what they can do to show their support for Glen especially now that Universal is intended on competing with his vision of what Knight Rider should be. I have designed an emblem so you too can show your support for his movie and his vision that one man (and his car) can make a difference.
You may post this image anywhere you like, in fact I encourage you to do so and tell your friends and family if they wish to support the movie to post it as well.
Put it on myspace, fan forums, blogs, websites, anywhere you wish to display it. You have carte blanch to do with it as you like (as long as it’s respectful).
I hope you enjoy the footage and stay tuned for further developments in the year to come.
“Looking to the future, I might suggest you keep your eye on the horizon because like a mighty phoenix, K.I.T.T. will rise from the ashes to fight the forces of evil once more.” --- Glen A. Larson
=VK=
Here’s the “support” emblem VK mentions above:

So…to encapsulate…
At this time, there are actually two KNIGHT RIDER projects ramping up: Larson/TWC’s movie, as well as NBC’s revamping/backdoor pilot. And, fans are once again being asked to chose which flavor they prefer - the creator’s, or the interpreter’s?
Can these projects co-exist? Or, must one fall so that the other may stand? Would their coexistence be too much for even the Geekiest to bear, and cause a complete erasure in some matter/anti-matter apocalypse?
What is it about Larson projects? They tend to generate such confusion and fervor. Anyone out there remember efforts to bring back GALACTICA (before SciFi Channel’s current iteration)? We had Todd Moyer's IMAX GALACTICA project, Richard Hatch's efforts to revive the original series, and Tom DeSanto & Bryan Singer's scuttled GALACTICA revival. Am I missing one?
Guess too much interest is better than no interest at all. And, in the end, this is a;; rather impressive. Clearly, no matter how high concept his creations may be (there’s also a FALL GUY movie in the wind, by the way), Larson's material clearly taps into something fun…and base. How many storytellers have managed to do this successfully? And, how many still have multiple properties in high demand decades after their inception? Something to think about.
We'll keep you apprised of movements on both projects; we're particular interested in tracking the status of the KR feature film. More information as more comes in…

..That's all I remember..Funny that I thought the car can fly for long periods of time.
-
I want some Fall Guy shit ASAP
-
this will probably suck, but i'll watch both the film and series anyway
-
It's quite sad seeing a big studio like Universal act so childish. <p> I'm with TWC!
-
This was one of my all time favourite kids programs.<P>WHere the Hell is the A-Team movie, Cagney and Lacey, Manimal, T J Hooker, The Bionic man, Heart To Heart and that one where the Cowboy rode around New York on his Horsey!?<P>Stop with the sequels and re-makes and do big screen Re-Boots of Columbo with Philip Seymour Hoffman or Murder She Wrote with Glen Close! I'd pay to see that shit!!!
-
who gives a damn.
-
.....which project Hasselhoff decides to make an appearance in to "pass the torch"
-
I have to back Larson's project, mainly because the TV show idea sounds a little lousy. The question is will either project involve the Hoff?
-
.....which project Hasselhoff decides to make an appearance in to "pass the torch"
-
Whoever he is, I bet he has more amphetamines in between the cushions of his sofa than I have ingested in my whole life. (But how to account for his cartoonishly-inflated sense of self-importance? You'd think Knight Rider invented penicillin.)
-
Honestly :)
-
thoroughly wasted.
-
. . . it'll come down to which one has Hoff returning to play the one and only Michael Knight and not passing the torch to any unworthy successor.
-
You can't do Knight Rider without his almighty Hoffness. Whatever it is their planning, they need the shining light of awesomeness that's descending from his glorious appearance. It would be like making a Star Trek remake witout William Shatner as Kirk. Oh wait.....
-
Like I even cared about one to begin with?
-
Possibly had the greatest theme song ever. As far as Knight Rider, I'm not going to hold my breath. Hope it's good without The Hoff.
-
less jowl and more KITT but that's just me. As for the movie I hope it delves more into Garthe Knight and his four years in that African prison.

-
I have no idea who could pull off a straight version of Knight Rider though. Think about it... A serious movie where a man talks to his car,not a robot car, just a cool gadget loaded talking car. The fact that there is a KnightCon is kind of disturbing but I have to admit I liked Knight Rider when I was growing up. I just like A Team and Fall Guy better.
-
That's that feature length film that needs making.

Knightrider was never good
by Guy Who Got A Headache And Accidentally Saves The World
It was never a good show, it was the goofiest and corniest shit ever. I had a neat looking car and thats IT. They wont even get that part right, they'll gay it up and make it look all futuristic and stupid.
-
So go watch the TV version. Maybe he'll be part of that. The concept is what works for Knight Rider. That and the red-on-black color combo for KITT. The show was utter shit, the acting was utter shit, and the storylines were... shocker! utter shit. Once again, this is an 80's property that could be fantastic if they write it well. Put Jason Statham in this, and it's GAME FUCKING ON.
-
I don't think you can reinvent this series to make it cool like Battlestar Galactica or Bionic Woman. A talking car is too goofy to be reinvented. They are better off going the spoof route and casting someone like Will Ferrell in the Hoff role.
-
Who knew that Gary Larson was such a stunner. I'm not gay, but damn! <shudder> Who the hell would put that button on anything? It's just going to scare small children (and me). <b> I'm going to hold out for the 'BJ and the Bear' project to hit...
-
Stop motion Knight Rider webisodes for the Internets, so it's actually three projects. Said production company was just a fat 35 year old virgin jerk playing with his toys and a videocamera. But still, it counts. Coming soon to a YouTube near you. So it's three projects, Merrick, not two. Ok, now to do things I actually give a shit about.
-
This would be a better fit for him than T4.
-
All those ill concieved Knight Rider 2000 and Future Knight Rider from the late 90's blew. And I'm sorry NBC, Battlestar is one of the best TV shows ever, but you all are seriously blowing it with Bionic Woman, methinks this could be the same. The problem is that Battlestar can deal with broader issues and be treated as a serious drama... Talking Cars and Half Robot chicks... not so much. Just have fun with it ok?
-
Did I read correctly that there is actually a Knight Rider CONVENTION occuring somewhere out there? That is both fascinating and horrifying, probably ranking somewhere around a furry convention in terms of the surreal. I am imagining Devon Miles cosplayers and panels on the mechanics of turbo boosting. But this begs the question... does this mean there is a Sledge HammerCon I have been missing out on for 20 or so years? Fandom is truly a scary place sometimes.
-
... is the one taking retarded inspiration from Bayformers with a transforming KITT? Whoever *isn't* making that one gets my vote.
-
"This series will not be Glen's vision; it will most likely be another train wreck waiting to happen like the other knock off shows Universal has churned out such as Knight Rider 2000, 2010, and TKR." Personally I hope they both are awesome and have very different tones and themes. Who cares if the movie and TV show mesh together.
-
And Katee Sackoff to play Michael Knight.
-
And Airwolf...
-
An out of work male model drives around in a 2005 GM with the OnStar button stuck, yapping to the operator all day.

I seem to remember.

I really hope both of these project make it to production. And that both sides fight exchange insults. alot of them.<br>
-
How many mistakes can one douche make? 1- the Fall Guy Movie died last year 2- The Weinsteins do not have money to make the feature of KR 3- Universal NEVER tried to blackmail the guy for the feature- they didn't care 4- NBC have the TV rights - they have the legal right to do a TV show 5- Larson is delusional if he thinks KR was about one guy making a difference.
-
Are there any dueling movies that worked? ANTZ and that Disney movie, there were volcano movies, one under La Brea and one at Mt. St Helens. Dueling Joplin biopics right now. There must be others...,
-
As a fan of the original Michael Scheffe designed KITT ( the show itself was pure 80's fluff) and as an in-progress KITT conversion builder ... knightfoundation.net ... (deep breath) Guessing/knowing that at this stage of the game that either project is most likely going to be cinematic toilet paper actually pleases me to no end. My beloved '82 Pontiac won't have to suffer the indignities of the whole Flames on Optimus debate :-) I am of course waiting for the perfunctory "Lame-ass comedian" - "Bimbo d'jour" and the "Hot Musical Genius" which I am sure will be summarily attached to either project announcement so I can officially laugh my ass off. Demographics are for those poor souls that are stricken by God himself to posess no artistic ability or insight. And of course lets not forget PRODUCT PLACEMENT. It's a Knight Rider Invasion of Savings at your local Tri-Cities GM Dealer! Glen, we love ya pal but I Pray that those glasses are not rose colored. You had lightning in a bottle. That New Coca Cola really was a winner. Nuf said.
-
Ah well. Maybe one day...
-
I would support a remake of the Adam West Batman TV series to battle Nolan's upcoming video, though.
-
the Willis/Bay Armegedon vs. the Morgan Freeman Impact movie.
-
Right away, Michael.
-
Otherwise, me and every other person who enjoyed knightrider as a kid wont be interested.
-
always got buried, or trapped in some friggin' hole, and KITT would have to launch them out like a rocket. That's all he could ever do, besides talk and drive fast. Didn't even make coffee. He shoulda had rockets and a machine gun. Bond cars were more tricked out in 1962 than KITT was in 1982. But, yeah, I watched the show. The General Lee was a cooler car.
-
I loved that show, I would buy that for $20 on DVD, not any mnore then that, crap, I'm not made out of money. What they should do is combine Street Hawk and Air Wolf and make it a helicopter that can have a motercycle eject from it and hit the ground going, that would be awesome<P>now I haven't seen behind the mask yet, but a similar take on cheesy 80's vechile actioneers might be a fun movie. KITT, Air Wolf, Street Hawk, VIPER, the thunder in Paradise boat all exist in the same universe and I don't know some crazy mechnic is trying to build a new one.
-
Dammit.
-
...not as true as you might think, but it isn't wrong either.
-
What I never understood was why the evil twin looked like Michael Knight when the whole point of the show was that they changed the way Michael Knight looked to conceal his identity. Pretty amazing coincidence that his Evil Twin would look just like the new him.
-
All the KR dissing is disheartening. Back when it was on, if you were around then, you all watched it! Don't deny the Hoff. Bring on the movie.
-
is there really a demand for this? i mean, other than the cool theme and opening credits, Knight Rider was a dull and dreary pile of shit. rather revive the A Team or the Equalizer. and for those expecting a decent film, just remember what a total fuck up the film version of the excellent TV series Miami Vice turned out to be.
-
Big, Like Father Like Son, Vice Versa, and 18 Again. All from '87 - '88. Saddens me I know all those titles..
-
You know you want it.
-
But why do they think anybody can take this seriously in 2007? Why the fuck not just get David Hasselhoff driving the same car and make it an action comedy about him going around helping people? And he's still a dude in a leather jacket driving a Trans Am so people laugh at him. But he plays it dead serious and kicks ass. And yes, McG would be a good director for this.<p> I can't see how a serious take could work now. I mean I guess a serious Michael Mann style update might be funnier than the comedy version. But anyway, they should consider it.<p> p.s. Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell or the fuckin Napoleon Dynamite dude not allowed.
-
If i remember correctly he wasn't Michael's Twin. The guy who started the whole thing "Mr. Knight" had a son who he presumed was dead (but was actually in an african jail) When he remade Michaels face, he made it to look like his son. Later on the son shows up and is pissed because his dad kinda gave his face away. He was driving a semi truck named Goliath that was made from the same indestructable material as kitt, although the truck didn't talk...or even have a computer. Oh and the evil version of KITT was KARR he was the original prototype that had turned evil, but instead of a mustache he had a bad 2-tone paint job.
-
street hawk wins.
-
well, knight rider and streethawk are equals.
-
Can we even survive ONE version? Will anyone see this movie? i doubt it.
-
I mean, how in the world can Knight Rider possibly outdo transformers? You'd have to have a killer story to make it work, and obviously, since it's Knight Rider, it won't.

I hate to break it to everyone that loves the original show, but the show was bad. I watched it religiously. Loved the show, but it also doesn't hold up at all. If we were to get a re-imagining in the same fashion as say BSG? I would totally tune into something like that. Larson was good for one thing.....Ideas. He had great ideas, but the shows were hokey and lame when it came to realism or execution. Let's hope someone can see the silver lining in the crap that is the original show. It can be done people.

And how is knight rider any more ridiculous than most of the blockbusters to grace our screens in the last 10 years?

One of my Faves to be sure and I wonder who theyll get to play Michael, what about Simon Cowell, NO! has to be Vince Vaugn with BIG hair!<P>And where's the Movie versions of<P>Heart to Heart with Sam Neil and Nicole Kidman and Harvey Keitel as MAX<P>Cagney and Lacey the early years with Cristina Ricky and Drew Barrymore<P>Manimal with Aaron Eckhart<P>The A-Team with Leslie Neilson, Johny Knoxville, Nathon Fillion and Samual L Jackson<P>Columbo with Mark Ruffalo<P>Murder She Wrote with Maggie Smith<P>T J Hooker with Philip seymour Hoffman and Freddie Rodrigez<P>Diagnosis murder with George Cloony<P>Come on Hollywood! i want Nostalgia flicks!!!

not really, no.
-
Fuck your T.V show movies......nobody wants them. You are just a greedy bastard.........Knight Rider never had a movie when it was popular...why would we want one now.
-
what about Sean Bean, Na! Sam Elliot, Na! too old, Billy Bob Thornton.<P>Magnum PI with wil farrel<P>Quincy with Ian McKellan<P>The Rockford Files with Ben Afleck!<P>I have to stop now I feel sick!!!
-
Why the hell not? The basic concept is solid: a "cool secret agent" and his tricked out car solving crimes and helping people. It would make a change from the "woman with special powers/training kicking ass" that we get so much of - add in the obligatory conspiracy arcs: Who is really behind the Knight organisation etc. and a light, humourous remake of the series (but that takes itself seriously) could easily be a hit. Nathan Fillion FTW!
-
McG! Not T4.
-
and we were laughing at the KnightCon guys.
-
it wont work because ITS KNIGHT RIDER. while we all look back to the past and reminisce once in a while, everyone who takes more than a second doing so will remember how bad most of these 80s shows actually were. Other than those who are complete geeks drooling over themselves that IT'S KNIGHT RIDER!!, no one will see this film past the first weekend. "cool super agent with tricked out car" means rolling of eyes to 95% of the population, esp if it invokes the memmory of cheeseburger eating hasselhoff.

I can buy a feature film more easily than an NBC series
by dragon of sorcerer
I'm not inherently opposed to there being two simultaneous Knight Rider properties. Just look at Batman after the Tim Burton film... all sorts of properties (like Batman: The Animated Series) popped up, many of which were worthwhile. On the other hand, it's a shame that NBC would do this just to undercut Larson. The fact that that's apparently their only motive makes me smell a rat... so I kind of doubt their TV show will be worthwhile. Anyway, a new Knight Rider needs a big budget, a gritty feel, and an epic storyline.... they need top notch special effects (an awesome Kitt car with James Earl Jones or someone equally cool voicing), a good cast, and strong creative talent. That's a lot more likely to happen on the big screen with the Weinsteins than with NBC. So, hail the hardcore, big screen treatment. If NBC's smart, they'll embrace the feature film and use the extra buzz from that to sell the TV show... they don't need to be Larson's enemy, and if their show is really worthwhile it will benefit from the extra publicity.
-
his scriptwriting abilities were... a little on the underwhelming side
-
was one of the highest-rated TV movies of 1991. Yes, it aired a mere two weeks after production was completed, but the moderate TV budget was put on-screen whenever possible. It was intended as a pilot for a new series, but later morphed into an unrelated "Knight Rider 2010" TV-series, three years later. Hasselhoff, Mulhare and Daniels were a part of it, and it was fun to work on. It included a bizarre "as himself" cameo by James Doohan. The minus was the unfortunate casting of Susan Norman (who?) as the sidekick. Mitch Pileggi performed his usual schtick.
-
...Michael Knight is sent far, far into the future to teach genetically overmodified, now sexless humans how to fuck. When a tech-plague overtakes the planet, sent by nanite aliens with no senses of humour, KITT the stone-age car is the only thing that can save the day. Starring Mike Myers. *shudder* Please don't make it, I'm only joking.
-
Long overdue...
-
versus Knight Boat versus the plane from Stealth versus Hal versus every anime robot ever created... that was sentient...
-
We need to find the man more work!
-
Then they have no reason to bitch over a Knight Rider movie. Both are a waste of time.
-
... not before: JAKE AND THE FATMAN: THE MOVIE KATE AND ALLIE: EXTINCTION BENSON: THE GOLDEN AGE ... okay, that's all.
-
Ha! Except for visits to his eye doctor, I doubt that ANYONE ELSE has ever thought of that phrase in any context--never mind CREATIVITY!!!! LOL!!!

But what's with Glen Larson right now?? Dude scared the heck outta me doing his Stan Lee improv.

What a concept for the show: program about a pair of fashion photographers/models who were actually secret agents. Sort of like, eerr no just like Zoolander before it's time. Such a shame.
-
The Equalizer.
-
Hollywood has turned into that episode of South Park where Cartman was pretending to be the robot buddy of Butters. Hollywood thought he was real and he kept making up stupid movie ideas with Adam Sandler in it and they loved it. It is the same idea now. Hollywood has run out of ideas, so they are remaking TV shows and old movies...copping out. Don't get me wrong, if done as a non comedy I would see Knight Rider, but Hollywood really needs to start being fresh again. If it wasn't a tv show or a movie, Hollywood doesn't seem interested.
-
was fun. <P> don't remake it. <P> how about instead of remaking ovies, they just re-release the originals? cheap and quick and would make money.
-
that'd be cool.
-
It's the next Freddy vs. Jason! Or Jaws vs. whatever-the-hell the monster was in The Deep.
-
How old is this dude anyway? Looks like my grandfather in a red t-shirt and leather jacket ala the Hoff in the series.
-
soccer ball robot sidekick (with the extending black pentagon patches) from the last season or two---I'm in!
-
As long as one of them has the Hoff singing Jump In My Car on the soundtrack, I am there!
-
I think you have stumbled upon a good idea for a comedy movie, but no Hasslehoff, unless he's getting run over by KITT. You mentioned Ben Stiller, I know you didn't want him in it, but come on, Ben Stiller in a leather jacket, going around solving crimes in a Trans am, that is comedy gold. Of course he would meet a girl played by Drew Barrymore, and fall in love. If you're dead set against Stiller, I know you would love Seth Rogen in the part, maybe with that fat redheaded kid as his faithful sidekick.

The Knight Rider thing and the Cylons. Must be something about man and machine. <p> And thank god we got the BSG remake we got and not Richard Hatch's terrible 'sequel'. I saw the trailer he made for that and it was just fucking awful.
-
with Sister Sister....could we possibly see both a new movie AND series?!! As Kelly Bundy says- "The mind wobbles."
-
Michael: Oh, no! They're headed for land. Michael: We'll never catch them now. Knight Boat: Incorrect--look! A canal. It makes sense.

An evil car... I mean how can you doubt the genius of a show that has an evil car as a recurring villain. And Hoff in a 'tache as another villain. Hey, how about you bring back Hoff as the bad guy version along with KARR, and that way you can have a hot new lead and Hoff at the same time. I'd pay to see Hoff with a big 'tache, twirling it as he cackles evily and drives around in an evil 80s car. And by pay, I mean download it... Come on, whoever of the two projects does that is the obvious winner...
-
there is no need for ANY resurrection of the idea from anyone...
-
It's the only American option. Corvette and Mustang would be too dumb and typical. The red beam would look awesome going across the Charger hood scoop. If not Charger, you'd have to go import.
-
I just read in the new Entertainment Weekly that Doug Liman is going to write and direct the two hr tv movie. Ok, I know the original show was shit, but I'm actually kind of looking forward to this now. I am officially rooting for the tv project, fuck Glenn Larson and his stupid "support emblem".

or a stream...or a fjord.

Don't count on that happening any time soon, much as I'd love to see it myself. Selleck tried for years to get a Magnum movie going and at one point even had Tom Clancy himself on board to write a treatment, since he was a giant fan of the show as well. You'd think with all the SHIT tv shows Hollywood decides to "remake" as movies that a Selleck & crew with Tom Clancy in tow deal would go through easily...<p>...But it didn't. Instead, Universal killed it all and basically told Selleck that his services were no longer needed and they would do their own movie, with a full recasting. At one point Clooney was mentioned as being courted for the role (appparently he was a fan of the show too) and last I heard...much like STARSKY AND HUTCH...they were going to do the MAGNUM movie as comedy. I don't know if he's still attached, but the guy who did DODGEBALL was signed to do a new script and direct.<p>Frankly, doing remakes like this makes no sense to me and strikes me as utter bullshit and yet another example of Hollywood creative bankruptcy. I'm sure there are some die hard Trekkers out there that just HAVE to get some new Trek material or they'll die, but the new J.J. Abrams remake falls under this same category for me. Why the fuck are you remaking classic TV that IS classic because we truly loved certain people in certain roles at certain times in our lives and THAT was the charm and magic to it all? I'm sorry, Hollywood, but fuck you with the new TREK movie no matter how many Sylar fans you think there are out here. Shatner and Nimoy are Kirk and Spock...Selleck is Thomas Magnum...the Hoff is Michael Knight. Trying to make new versions with new people is just bullshit that no one really wants to see and that's why practically EVERY so-called "reimagining" of a classic TV show fucking fails.

This has to be the most fucked up entertainment company on the planet. First they dump iTunes as a vehicle for selling TV shows, one of the dumbest moves in history. Now they are using guerilla warfare tactics against Larson to force him to dump the Weinsteins in favor of Universal? No wonder why NBC went from the highest rated network from just a few years ago to the lowest. A bunch of dumbfucks are running that company into the ground. They can go suck balls.
-
In Larson we trust? That is funny. Seriously though, this could be a fun movie if the pieces come together.
-
This was a great show for it's time, and I really think we need a resurgence of these kind of mini-movies that were so prevalant in the 80's. The show had something for everybody, it had the car for the guys and action, the Hoff for the ladies, and a kool futuristic talking car for the kids. No wonder it was successful. I can seriously see this being remade and updated into a movie, or even a weekly show easily. In a world with nothing but reality TV, and millionare shows, (with exception to a few...HEROES) We need more projects like this!
-
Give me a movie about that. Then again, will i still like it as much as when i was a kid? Things seem better and much cooler through the eyes of nostalgia. Their going through the whole 1980's catalogue of films and tv-series. Next thing they'll bring to the bigscreen is Captain Power and the soldiers of the future...mark my words.
-
KR was a show that was a cool concept, poorly executed. The little narration during the opening titles makes it sounds like an awesome show. But then Michael ends up in a cowboy hat saving someone's farm from evil developers. The A-Team pretty much suffers from the same thing, right down to the same plot line, though the show was a bit better.
-
I grew up on 80's shows like this and they always divided people right down the middle, you thought it was shit or the only good things on tv. I fall into the latter group. TV can be too talky now, but then the old shows didnt have the substance the present equivalents do. They were just a product of the times they were made and bringing them back now is just an exercise in brand recognition. On the whole older fans wont like the inevitable changes and the younger audience cant see the attraction in the nostalgia. That said, if they insist on doing it, bring back K.A.R.R and Goliath !

I actually love this idea. But I also loved (still love) the idea of a Jack Black Green Lantern.<br><br> And I am not putting up a fucking Glen Larson Knight Rider decal. Personally, I support Cancer research. Honestly...
-
If they want to be at least a bit original I believe the way to go is to cross over different genres, a TV show versus a comic book character versus a video game. It would at least peak our curiosity...
-
with sandberg as the voice of the car...<p>"MacGruber!! Even a futuristic car can't stop him from thinking about his ex wife!!"<p>"MacGruber!!! Drives by her house at night in a bitching Trans Am from the future!!"<p>"MacGruber!! Used to have a martini dispenser in his dash until his subsequent court ordered sobriety!!"<p>you know you would see that movie...
-
That's just crazy.
-
Honestly its a car that talks with lights where other cars don't have lights. Great. The most I would pay for this franchise is the $.99 for the theme song. And I'm not even sure of that.
-
So that motorcycle goes 300 MPH...how does he not end up in another zip code when that thing makes turns?
-
Anyone remember an episode of Leno not to long ago where the Hoff was on and he talked about the movie? He didn't say anything about doing a TV show, but that he really wanted to make a movie with Glen. I'd much rather see this movie. As for NBC using the show to tank the movie, I don't think it's going to work. Everyone who loves KR knows Glen more than those other two guys, and personally, as far as KR is involved I'd follow Glen to the end of the earth. If it has his name on it, I'll watch it. Cause he won't fuck up Kitt. Mind you, Glen didn't have anything to do with any previous KR spinoffs. Which all sucked. Also, KR con I believe is kinda a show for people who've built the cars, and kinda a parts swap too.
