Can You Tell Me How To Get...

Sunny days...not everyone is happily singing the tune this week, but I am here to bring a little sunshine to your day with the announcement of an Indiegogo campaign for the documentary STREET GANG. Based in part on Michael Davis' best selling book of the same name, STREET GANG is the origin story of the beloved and legendary children's program Sesame Street. The feature documentary will be directed by Marilyn Agrelo (MAD HOT BALLROOM) and will showcase archival footage from the series' 47 years on television plus new animation sequences and music.

Aside from covering production costs, the filmmakers have pledged to donate 15% of the Indiegogo net proceeds to benefit the non profit media educational group Sesame Workshop, who have brought us Sesame Street and "helped the world's most vulnerable children grow stronger, smarter, and kinder" through its Yellow Feather Fund. Another goal of the campaign is to rebuild the original "Sesame stoop" and iconic set to help transport audiences back in time to the early days of the historic program.

Some of the bonuses that Street Gang's producers will be providing for their Indiegogo supporters are:

-Reproductions of original animation cells from the early seasons of the show
-Original artwork by Sesame Workshop Creative Director Louis Mitchell that includes a drawing of the backer with Sesame Street Muppets
-An exclusive "GREEN" Grover figurine as he appeared in the original pitch film for Sesame Street
-Reproductions of classic Sesame Street children's books illustrations

The documentary goes into production at the end of the year, but the filmmakers celebrated Sesame Street Day (yes, that's actually a thing) yesterday by officially kicking off their Indiegogo campaign to crowd fund the film. With exclusive access to the Sesame Street archives through the Sesame Workshop and The Jim Henson Company, I am very eager to take a trip down memory lane with Agrelo and her story of the children's television mainstay. If you are too, consider supporting the production here:  http://bit.ly/2eh6bR0.
