The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day: A cool effects shot from the making of Spielberg's E.T.!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. For those who have been following along, you know that this week has had a sharp focus on Spielberg and King stuff in celebration of the awesome Netflix series STRANGER THINGS. We started with a couple shots of Spielberg hanging with the casts of both ET and Poltergeist, but we didn't have a straight up ET BTS picture, so I figured that'd be a nice place to end this little mini-run on.

What you're going to see below is a cool glimpse at how they pulled off some of the flying bike stuff from ET. Some of it was the actors on the bikes comped against the sunset and night sky and some of the wider shots were stop motion kids and bikes. The image you're going to see below is of the stop motion element shoot.

Enjoy!

I always love seeing how low tech some of this stuff is. The artistry is off the charts, of course, but you got a simple backdrop, some puppets and a few lights and that makes one of the most recognizable cinematic images of my childhood.

I don't know about you guys, but I can't help but hear John Williams' triumphant score when I see that photo.

We're done with Stranger Things-inspired BTS pics, but we're not done with cool BTS pics in general. You'll go batty for tomorrow's pic. See ya' then!
