Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I aged out of Minecraft and that's saying something considering how arrested my development is in pretty much all other areas. I've tried to play it, but could never really wrap my mind around the concept of nothing but resource hording and building. That never seemed fun to me.
But for an entire generation of young folks it's huge. Kids fucking love Minecraft. Every child in my life, from my nephews to all my friends' kids, is obsessed with Minecraft. Like Lego obsessed.
The Minecraft Movie was just slotted for a May 24th, 2019 release date, with promises of both a 3D and IMAX release.
If the filmmakers are smart they'll keep the look of the universe intact. If they make it half as fun as The Lego Movie I'm betting it'll be just as successful. So many kids out there want to see more of this universe and if they somehow make it fun for the non-Minecraft playing adults this could be the start of a massive new franchise.
