I didn’t think Costner’s action star comeback was going past THREE DAYS TO KILL, but this CRIMINAL trailer proves to me that the former Mariner ain't done playing tough on camera.
Now that he’s got people like Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, and Gal Gadot backing him up, not to mention Scott Adkins, Alice Eve, and Ryan Reynolds in smaller roles, his move towards being a Neeson-esque 60-year-old asskicker seems more intriguing and fun than it did before.
Director Ariel Vromen did the Michael Shannon starrer THE ICEMAN, which also had a great cast, as well as a sense of style that has hopefully carried over here. I like the JOHNNY MNEMONIC/ENEMY OF THE STATE premise, and some of the action looks pretty cool.
But this cast is obviously the most attractive thing about this flick, and seeing these old pros (and the new guns as well) engage each other is the main reason I’ll be checking this one out in just over two months time.
CRIMINAL will not feature John C. Reilly or Maggie Gyllenhaal on April 15th.
