You might need to sit down for this... Star Wars Episode VIII pushed back to December 15th, 2017.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. So, I have bad news and good news. Good news is Episode VIII is still on track to begin production in the next month or so. The bad news is Disney saw so much crazy financial success releasing The Force Awakens unopposed over the Christmas time slot that they've decided Star Wars Episode VIII should follow suit.

That means we won't get Rian Johnson's second entry in the new trilogy until December 15, 2017.

It's smart on a money level and it also means that Star Wars' Box Office won't be cut short by the studio's Marvel releases.

There's been some rumors that Johnson has also been doing a last minute script rewrite, but I don't expect the motivation for the move is anything but laying claim to the holiday time slot. If the stand alone films are as regular as they seem to be that means every Christmas from here to who knows when will have some kind of Star Wars present for us good boys and girls.

The new Pirates of the Caribbean movie will move into Star Wars' original May 26th, 2017 slot.

So, yes. We have to wait an extra half year for Episode VIII (boo, hiss) but since they're not delaying production that only gives them that much more time to fine tune the movie in post and deliver us the best possible flick they can.

Thoughts?
