GHOSTBUSTERS: THE ANIMATED MOVIE!

Sony’s getting kinda weird on us, guys.

They’re doing that animated SPIDER-MAN flick with Lord and Miller at the same time as they’re launching a new series around Tom Holland’s all-new take on the character. Now they’re pulling that same thing with GHOSTBUSTERS.

Last night, it came out that Sony was working with Ivan Reitman on an animated GHOSTBUSTERS flick.

However, don’t expect a REAL GHOSTBUSTERS-esque depiction of the live-action cast. This one has an intriguing hook: “insiders suggest that the story will be told from a ghost’s point of view.”

Even between the two movies, the TV shows, the stage shows, and the video games, they’ve never really dug into that aspect of this franchise before. What does it mean to be a ghost? How does one become a ghost? What is their purpose, just to scare the living? Why do they look the way they do? Is there a skin selection upon arrival like some video game? Does Slimer actually digest all those hot dogs??

Don’t forget that they also got the potentially male-dominated GHOSTBUSTERS flick that the Russo Brothers are currently working on. If they’re going to inundate us with the brand which, until this point, was utilized somewhat sparingly, they gotta do more than just have various groups of actors in costume shooting beams at apparitions, and going this route for the animated flick almost singlehandedly justifies its existence. I’m not saying it won’t be weird to see the cartoon version of a live-action flick you saw in theaters the year before. But it will be cool to finally see “the other side” that Venkman was once ready for (and, if GHOSTBUSTERS 3 had been made, would have experienced firsthand).

Does this sound worthy of making, or should they maybe cool it a little with the GHOSTBUSTERS overload?
