Jack Reacher 2 gets a release date!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Before Chris McQuarrie and Tom Cruise kicked our asses with the hyper-fun Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation they gave us a cool, brutal smaller movie that not enough people saw (you guys did, though, so I'm not talking shit about you good cinephiles) called Jack Reacher.

One of the things that I love about Tom Cruise as one of the few A-List kings in the industry is that he uses his clout to give talented people a shot. McQuarrie has long kicked-ass as a screenwriter, but his eye for direction was evident to anybody who saw Way of the Gun way back when. It was a fantastic movie, but hit at a weird time and failed to find a huge audience, so McQuarrie was back to being "just a screenwriter" in the eyes of Hollywood.

Cruise saw his potential, though, and when the opportunity arose he used his position in Hollywood to get McQuarrie behind the camera again for Jack Reacher.

McQuarrie won't be back for the sequel, but we are getting one, which makes me happy. The first one was a different taste for most modern movie-goers. It wasn't as flash as most Tom Cruise action movies, but had some really stand-out moments, mostly involving a little sense of humor and a lot of beat downs.

Paramount has nabbed Ed Zwick, who directed Cruise in The Last Samurai, to direct the sequel and has given it a release date of October 2016, which means it has to shoot very soon.

Now the big question: which random iconic director will they get to play one of the villains? They have to keep that up, right? I mean, Werner Herzog in the first kind of demands some equally demented director-casting in the sequel. We know Cronenberg acts... just sayin'...
