COACH Isn’t Coming Off The Sidelines After All!!

I am – Hercules!!

It turns out “Coach” will not be joining “Twin Peaks,” “The X-Files” and “Heroes” on that list of old TV shows getting revived as miniseries.

NBC ordered 13 new episodes back in March (and star Craig T. Nelson will be getting paid for all 13) but only produced one episode. Some apparently thought that first new episode looked dated. The plug has been pulled, and creative differences are being cited as the why.

Barry Kemp, who created the hilarious original, was appointed to serve as showrunner of the new miniseries starring original cast members Nelson and Bill Fagerbakke, set 18 years after the end of the original.

The premise had Nelson’s character, Hayden Fox, emerging from retirement to serve as assistant coach to the son he adopted in the first series. That son was to be head coach at a new Ivy League team in Pennsylvania.

Nelson, iconic to nerds as Steve Freeling in “Poltergeist,” just finished a six-year run as grandpa Zeek Braverman on NBC’s Jason Katims dramedy “Parenthood.”

Nelson also played “Coach” in the Will Ferrell skating comedy “Blades of Glory,” and co-starred with Ferrell in last spring’s “Get Hard.”
