A shot of Jesse Eisenberg & Lex Luthor on Woody Allen's Untitled Next Project lights imagination!

UPDATED: Deadline is just now reporting that BRUCE WILLIS has dropped out of this project, although he has apparently already been filming some of it, so that he can play the James Caan role in the Broadway version of MISERY!   Woody's team says they'll recast - and apparently will have to do a bit of reshooting.   Timing on this is crazy!

Hey folks, Harry here...   I saw this tweet earlier today - and I haven't been able to shake a notion.    This is from the filming of Woody Allen's next Untitled Project due for release in 2016.   But there's something about Jesse Eisenberg being in this shot with Bruce Willis that just makes me yearn for Bruce Willis as Lex Luthor some day. Here... take a look:

I know, get over it.  Jesse has the part for Zack Snyder's BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE - and I doubt there will be any recasting of Lex Luthor for the foreseeable future...  but as a Lex Luthor fan... and yes, I believe we can be fans of villains in comics, I have always been ever so annoyed at the cinematic handling of Lex Luthor - from the beginning.  Not that I didn't enjoy Gene Hackman as a boy, when he took the wig off at the prison and declared himself LEX LUTHOR - it chilled me in my seat.   BUT...  Lex Luthor as a bumbling land schemer annoyed me.   Lex Luthor is better than that.  A stronger character than that.

As a fan of Ray Harryhausen's 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD - I often dreamt of Torin Thatcher playing Lex Luthor opposite George Reeves in the made up films of my imagination.   I want Lex Luthor super scientist and criminal mastermind.   Then as I got older - in comics - Lex was turned into a more business minded enemy, that was also a super scientist.   But in the films - you never truly get the notion of Lex Luthor is a mastermind, more of an ambitious clutz of a criminal.

Now - we don't know how Jesse is going to play the role, we know he's got some science fun that he might do with a certain Kryptonian corpse - but I sure hope we see him retro-engineer Kryptonian tech and do some really big brain super-science.   And I want him to be less "CRAZY Lex" and more of a magnificent ambition.

However, some day - I'd love to see Lex Luthor played by someone that can intimidate Superman and the audience eat it up - and that's the kinda charisma that Bruce has.  Someone with a bit more Bruno to him.

OK - so - what do we know about the WOODY ALLEN project that the image on this page is from - and get away from my personal wonky fantasies of Superhero movies?

Well - like all Woody Allen films - it's got an all-star cast that in addition to Bruce & Jesse has Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively, Corey Stoll, Parker Posey and the magnificent Judy Davis!   We also know that Vittorio Storaro is DPing the film for Woody - and he's the genius that shot APOCALYPSE NOW, LAST TANGO IN PARIS, THE LAST EMPEROR and THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE!

As is typical with Woody's projects we don't know a title, a plot or anything that would give us a clue of the film's nature.   I'm fine with that.  Woody is a filmmaker that's films can always be trusted to at least be completely different from everybody else's work.   Keep em coming Woody!

Keep it cool,

Harry
