Lionsgate has got a ROBIN HOOD movie in development, and they are looking at a few hot young British actors to play the legendary bandit.
Taron Egerton (KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE) is apparently at the top of the list, followed by Nicholas Hoult (MAD MAX: FURY ROAD), Jack Huston (BOARDWALK EMPIRE), and Jack Reynor (TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION).
A big X factor is whether KINSGMAN will get a sequel, which would knock Egerton out of contention. PEAKY BLINDERS’ Otto Bathurst is set to direct the film as his feature debut, and has apparently already met with Reynor, but despite his appearance in T4, the actor isn’t nearly as prolific as Hoult and Huston. Still, the idea that they want Egerton shows that they’re shooting for someone a little tougher than the skinny, blue-eyed Hoult, which makes me think it could easily go to the cheap, relatively unknown Reynor.
There are a bunch of Robin Hood flicks in development, uncurbed by the failure of the Ridley Scott-Russell Crowe jam from five years ago. It’s unlikely that most of them will ever make it to production, but if Bathurst and Lionsgate can nail down a promising actor, they’re a huge step closer towards getting theirs made.
