Fair Play!! ARROW Recruits Two More DC Comics Icons!!

I am – Hercules!!

TV versions of Mr. Terrific and Anarky are coming to “Arrow.”

Echo Kellum (“Sean Saves The World”) has been cast as Curtis “Mr. Terrific” Holt, a tech wiz working for Felicity Smoak at Palmer Technologies.

There are two print versions of Mr. Terrific in the comics, neither of them named Curtis. Terry “Mr. Terrific” Sloane is one of DC Comics’ oldest heroes, introduced in 1942’s Sensation Comics #1. As wealthy as Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor, Sloane is a supersmart martial arts master and served as a member of the Justice Society of America.

Confusingly, Sloane didn’t wear a giant “MT” or “Mr. T” or “Mr. Terrific” or “T” on his chest. Instead his torso was adorned with the words “Fair Play” in very large type, leading casual readers to suspect he was a superhero named “Fair Play.”

A rebooted version of Sloane serves as Earth-2’s current “worst supervillain.”

A second print version of the character, Michael (not Curtis) “Mr. Terrific” Holt, was introduced in the pages of 1997’s Spectre #3. Inspired by The Spectre’s tales of Justice Society teammate Terry Sloane, Holt wears a T-shaped mask and sports the words “Fair Play” on his jacket sleeves. The comics routinely refer to Holt as “the third smartest man in the world,” though they rarely if ever make mention of who holds the first and second slots.

Alexander Calvert (“The Returned”), who appeared in a 2010 episode of DC Comics’ short-lived “Human Target” series, will play the TV version of Anarky, described as an elite criminal for hire.

The print version of Lonnie “Anarky” Machin was introduced in 1989’s Detective Comics 608. Like the Mr. Terrifics, he is a supersmart martial artist. Machin’s bookshelves reveal he is also a fan of Alan Moore’s “V For Vendetta.”

Machin is considered one of the most sympathetic characters ever to be defeated by The Batman.

Machin had a run-in with Oliver Queen in a 2005 issue of “Green Arrow.” Two years ago, Anarky served as a key antagonist in the animated series “Beware The Batman.”
