On the heels of Jon Bernthal’s casting as Frank “The Punisher” Castle, Marvel and Netflix have for “Daredevil’s” second season cast a lower-profile actor to play Elektra, superhero and love interest for the title character.
While Elektra is famously Greek, Elodie Yung ("The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," “GI Joe: Retaliation”), who is of French and Cambodian descent, will play her in the series. Texas-born Jennifer Garner (“Alias”) played her in two movies: 2003’s “Daredevil” and 2005’s “Elektra.”
There are rumors that Netflix will soon announce that the supervillain Bullseye will also be joining the cast for season two.
Elektra joins the Disney/Marvel onscreen universe that now contains Daisy Johnson, Peggy Carter, Phil Coulson, Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, Hank Pym, Luke Cage, Steve Rogers, Matt Murdock, Peter Parker, Peter Quill, Maria Hill, Nick Fury, Thor and so many others.
Season one of “Daredevil” was overseen by a pair of former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” writers – Drew Goddard and Steven DeKnight. The showrunner on season two is a third former “Buffy” writer, Douglas Petrie.
