ANT-MAN Director: I Want To Make A Hank Pym Prequel!!

I am – Hercules!!

Disappointed that Marvel Comics icon Hank Pym (in print one of the five founding members of The Avengers alongside Tony Stark, Bruce Banner and Thor) is merely a supporting character in this month’s “Ant-Man” movie?

“Ant-Man” director Peyton Reed would like to mount a Pym prequel.

“Listen, if we were lucky enough to be able to do a sequel or even a prequel, I'd be way into it,” the director tells ComicBook.com. “I've really fallen in love with these characters. I was always in love with the characters in the comic book world but there's a lot of story to tell with Hank Pym.”

Boy, is there ever. If you’ve read Stan Lee’s original comics dealing with the Ant-Man, you know Pym’s secret origin is substantially different from that of Scott Lang, who inherits the Ant-Man supersuit from Pym. There was no one mentoring Pym when he invented his size-altering Pym Particles.

And of course, the prequel would finally give us our first real look at that fifth original Avenger, Janet Van Dyne, the original Wasp. Van Dyne’s role in “Ant-Man” is so miniscule (pardon the pun) I’m not certain they hired an actual actress to play her.

Sadly, the new movie establishes that Pym was never part of The Avengers; his Ant-Man worked in secret for SHIELD. But you can’t have everything.
