Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange is one of my more anticipated flicks coming in Marvel's Phase 3. Sure, there are the big team movies and the beginning of the Infinity War, but Doctor Strange is such a fuckin' weird character that I'm just dying to see brought to cinematic life, especially with Benedict Cumberbatch wearing the cloak.
I'm not going to pretend I'm the world's foremost Strange expert... My knowledge of the character comes almost solely from his crossover appearances in the Marvel books I did read and the '90s relaunch of The Defenders. But I do know that his mentor, The Ancient One, has traditionally been an old Asian man, so when news came down from The Hollywood Reporter that the role was close to being cast it was a little bit of a surprise that the actor named was... not old. Or Asian. Or a man.
Yep, it's Tilda Swinton and I gotta say that's inspired. Not just because of the gender swap, but because of the alchemy involved. I can't wait to see Swinton paired with Cumberbatch. She's got a mystical presence already!
It's a great choice as far as I'm concerned. What do you folks think?
