Gotham 1.21 FAQ

What’s it called?
“The Anvil or the Hammer.”

Who’s responsible?
Teleplay is credited to “Gotham” newcomer Jordan Harper, who wrote 14 episodes of Bruno Heller’s “The Mentalist” between 2010 and 2015.

What says Fox?
“The Ogre (guest star Milo Ventimiglia) breaks down Barbara’s (Erin Richards) emotions, while Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bullock (Donal Logue) go to great lengths to track him down. Meanwhile, Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) leads a massacre, beginning an epic war, while Bruce (David Mazouz) learns the truth about Wayne Enterprises and Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) deals with his recent actions. Guest Cast: Morena Baccarin as Dr. Leslie Thompkins, Milo Ventimiglia as Jason Lennon, Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean, David Zayas as Don Maroni, Chelsea Spack as Kristin Kringle, Clark Carmichael as Connor, Caroline Lagerfelt as Mrs. Kean, Richard Poe as Mr. Kean, Michael Potts as Sid Bunderslaw, Barbara Rosenblat as Lidia, Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox, James Andrew O'Connor as Tommy Bones, Tonya Glanz as Sally, April Yvette Thompson as Lucy.”

How does it start?
With Jason and Barbara the morning after.

With the season finale coming next week, does The Joker put in an appearance?
Not that I noticed.

Who gives Kristin Kringle the bad news?
She only knows Officer Tom Dougherty stood her up again.

Does Nygma slap a giant felt question-mark on a green unitard this week?
He creates a lot of skull fragments.

Is Barbara Kean still into Fifty Shades Of Petrelli after seeing his Special Room?
It’d be weird if she were into The Special Room, am I right?

I don’t suppose Fish bleeds to death after taking that bullet two weeks ago?
Maria Mercedes Mooney sits out her second episode in a row. I guess that bullet finishes her off next week?

Does Gordon wrinkle Commissioner Loeb’s jacket again?
Loeb puts in no appearance this week.

Does Bruce learn something about Wayne Enterprises we already know?
I’m saying no.

Last week we learned Nygma is a virgin; do you think Oswald Kapelput in that same boat?
This is my suspicion.

Why didn’t deep-pocket Wayne Enterprises pay Alfred’s war buddy more -- so he wouldn’t have to ingest his “medicine” in an abandoned warehouse? Wouldn’t it have been smarter to kill him, or at least fly him to Indonesia or something?
They probably figured there’d be an overdose long before Bruce began any kind of ascent to World’s Greatest Detective. But Wayne Enterprises has again vastly underestimated Young Master Bruce.

Now that Barbara’s back in the picture, does Morena Baccarin’s character die this week?
That would be telling!

Does Maroni survive this episode?
Maroni is still around late into the episode.

Any sign of Crispis Allen, Renee Montoya, Harvey Dent or Ivy Pepper this week?
None.

The big news?
We learn a bit about Dr. Thomas Wayne.

What else is Fox not telling us?
John Doman returns as Carmine Falcone, but it’s a non-speaking part this week.

What’s good?
Ben McKenzie as James Gordon. The Riddler’s luggage. The homage to “Eyes Wide Shut.” Barbara’s choices. “I’ve been expecting you.” “You’d need the talk.” “Oh my, yes!” “Especially you two!!” “What’s happening?” “Hey, Jerko!!” “Do The Dog”!!!

What’s not so good?
I would have liked to see Gordon slap Loeb around a little.

How does it end, spoiler boy?
Falcone looks up from his gift and The Penguin chuckles.

8 p.m. Monday. Fox.
