JK Simmons may be best known as Peter Parker’s boss or for repeatedly complaining that something is not his tempo or for training Farmers Insurance employees, but to me he’ll always be sadistic Nazi rapist Vern Schillinger on HBO's “Oz.”
Fresh from his “Whiplash” Oscar win, Simmons is returning to pay-cable for “Counterpart,” Starz’ just-greenlit sci-fi espionage series about a bored United Nations employee who discovers his agency has secretly been harboring a portal to a parallel dimension where doppelgangers dwell.
(Sounds a bit like “Fringe,” yes?)
Morton Tyldum (“The Imitation Game”) directs the first two episodes of the series, created by screenwriter Justin Marks (“Street Fighter”).
Deadline’s story suggests Starz intends to order two seasons of the series.
