I imagine the decision to livestream many of the events of this week’s STAR WARS Celebration wasn’t greeted warmly by the mammoth number of fans who spent tons of time and money, and expended considerable resources, to attend the function in person.
An understandable perspective. However…
1) At the end of the day, there’s simply NO substitute for being there. Period. And...
2) I very much view this move as as a demonstration of respect and acknowledgement towards the vast majority of SW fans who couldn’t make it to Anaheim for whatever reasons. And as an effort to create less division (thus greater unity) amongst the STAR WARS fan base on the whole. In this moment, we’re all together - no matter who we are or where we are. Gathered to appreciate the long-awaited rebirth of a franchise. Indeed, the rekindling of a way of life which many of us grew up knowing, and some of us have missed very much. That’s pretty great.
So, a hearty THANK YOU to The Powers That Be for this one. And an affectionate tip of the hat to our brothers and sisters who’ve been busting their asses in Anaheim to be a part of this wondrous Celebration which is now unfolding.
