The ‘one last ride’ motif featured in the promos for FURIOUS 7 seem to be conveying (to some people at least) the impression that this it the last film in the franchise - which I don’t believe has ever been the intent, despite the passing of Paul Walker. I’m assuming the ‘one last ride’ reference is instead an oblique call-out to the actor’s final appearance in the series, but may be being misconstrued as a promotion for the closing of the franchise?
Which, as stated above, doesn’t appear to be the case at all if Vin Diesel’s recent discussion with Jimmy Kimmel is any indication.
Speaking with Kimmel, Diesel reveals that The Powers That Be are, indeed, thinking ahead.
I always think of these films multiple pictures in advance - I think of them as trilogies. Kurt Russell came in for this movie, but we really hired him because of the story that follows this - that takes place in New York.

So, if there’s another FAST AND THE FURIOUS film - and it seems a safe bet there will be one - we now know two things about it. 1) Expect more Kurt Russell (and there’s no way that’s ever a bad thing), and 2) the hero-folk will head to New York.
FURIOUS 7 opens Friday, with early screenings revving up tomorrow night. And I’ll be there…
