UPDATED!! Is CBS Looking To Launch A New STAR TREK Series With X-MEN Director Bryan Singer??

UPDATE: Robert Meyer Burnett, who helped prepare the 10-year-old "Star Trek: Federation" pitch with Bryan Singer's blessing, told the io9 website that he has no knowledge of Bryan Singer pitching a new Trek series to CBS.

Latino Review on Friday afternoon posted a long, long “exclusive” that’s a little light on actual info.

Excerpt one:

“CBS is looking to bring Star Trek back to TV.”

That is not news. CBS controls the rights to TV Trek, and it has heard Trek pitches from, among others, “Trek” captains Jonathan Frakes and William Shatner.

Excerpt two:

“Bryan Singer's name has been mentioned for the new CBS Trek as a possible Executive Producer.”

“Mentioned” to whom by whom? This is left a mystery by Latino Review, and until we learn Singer’s associates weren’t the ones mentioning Singer, this too isn’t much in the way of news.

Singer (“The Usual Suspects,” “X-Men”) has long been interested in developing a new “Trek” series, and even gave a long-ago go ahead to Robert Meyer Burnett (who worked on a behind-the-scenes documentary for the first “X-Men” movie) to work up a pitch. Singer elected not to make that pitch, which one can read all about here.

So if anybody has any details on any Bryan Singer Trek activity over at CBS, do get in touch: herculesAICN@yahoo.com
