Horror Comedy THE FINAL GIRLS Continues to Build its Cast!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

Last month, word broke that Sony had picked up the rights to a new horror comedy from director Todd Strauss-Schulson (A VERY HAROLD AND KUMAR CHRISTMAS). Malin Ackerman (WATCHMEN) and Taissa Farmiga (AMERICAN HORROR STORY), were initially cast, and now it looks like they have gained some co-stars (via THR)

The film is THE FINAL GIRLS. It's a send-up of one of our very favorite horror tropes - the badass chick who is a little smarter than her friends and always manages to stay a half a step ahead of the killer in our favorite movies. Laurie, Nancy, Alice - take your pick. These characters helped define the slasher genre, and it wouldn't be what it is without them.

This film will tell the story of a girl (Farmiga) who is transported (along with her friends) into the plot of an '80's slasher flick, which starred her recently-deceased mother (Ackerman). Mother and daughter must team up to survive the events of the film and best the killer in the end.

Joining the cast are VAMPIRE DIARIES star Nina Dobrev as one of the lead character's friends, and Thomas Middleditch (SILICON VALLEY) as a movie nerd (yay!) who is initially psyched to find himself in a horror film. Also on board are Alexander Ludwig (THE HUNGER GAMES) as Farmiga's love interest and Adam Devine (PITCH PERFECT) as "the movie-within-a-movie's appointed teen seducer."

If done right, this sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Something of a geeky, meta love letter to the genre. The film was initially scheduled for production at New Line, but Sony took it over when they were unable to get it off the ground. I'll look forward to hearing more as production gets under way.
