A week or two ago we got word that STAR WARS EPISODE VII was ramping up to shoot in Morocco.
At that time, ’twas widely connected that the location would serve as Tatoonie - the home planet of Anakin and Luke Skywalker in the STAR WARS prequel / original trilogy respectively.
Now, via THIS piece at THR, comes indication that, indeed, ‘a Morocco-like environment’ will serve as Tatooine - which was previously shot on location (primarily) in Tunisia. Not only this, THR says…’director J.J. Abrams and Disney are planning to build out an extensive re-creation of Tatooine, the desolate home planet of Luke and Anakin Skywalker…’ - presumably meaning we’ll see the iconic Lars homestead / hole in the ground once more. But what condition will it be in
Interestingly, and by the way, a number of original STAR WARS sets are still standing back in Tunisia. Here’s a few of many videos…
STAR WARS EPISODE VII is currently slated for a December 2015 release.
