THOR: THE DARK WORLD's Alan Taylor to helm the first film in the rebooted TERMINATOR trilogy!!!

Hey Yo, Draven here.

TERMINATOR 5 is moving right along. Just a couple of months after a release date and plans for a new trilogy were announced, we now have word on who is going to lead the new trilogy. According to Variety, Paramount has hired THOR: THE DARK WORLD and GAME OF THRONES director, Alan Taylor to helm the first film in the new rebooted trilogy.

The interesting bits from Variety’s report include the claim that the studio originally tried to work out a deal with Ang Lee and then also targeted Rian Johnson (LOOPER) and Denis Villeneuve (PRISONERS, which is getting incredible early reviews). The report also states that nothing is official yet with the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I think this is good news for a couple of reasons though. Alan Taylor is an up and comer and there have been some rumors that Marvel and he have had some creative differences on the THOR sequel and specifically the length (reportedly Taylor wants the film to be 150 minutes and Marvel wants it at 120 minutes). The fact that Paramount is ready to hand over one of their tentpole franchises to him seems to suggest that the negative buzz on THOR: THE DARK WORLD may be overblown which is good news for that film as well as the new TERMINATOR film.

TERMINATOR 5 is scheduled to hit theaters June 26, 2015.

What do you guys think? Is this a good hire? Anybody besides Rian Johnson that you think would have been a better pick?
