So Fox has dropped a ton of release date news onto our lap today according to Box Office Mojo:
INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 has been dated for July 3, 2015. It is still unknown if Will Smith will be returning but Roland Emmerich will be returning to direct.
ASSASSIN’S CREED has not surprisingly been pushed out of May 2015 to June 19, 2015. This is probably to avoid STAR WARS: EPISODE VII and THE AVENGERS 2.
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST have switched release dates. DAWN will now hit on July 18, 2014 and DAYS OF FUTURE PAST will now be released on May 23, 2014
Nothing too surprising here, but I guess this means INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 is officially a go almost 20 years after the original. Roland Emmerich has already talked about what the sequel would be like and it is supposed to lead into a third film.
I think we all assumed that Fox was going to move ASSASSIN’S CREED as May 2015 is going to probably be the highest grossing month of all time with THE AVENGERS 2 and STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. I am not sure why DAWN and X-MEN switched spots though so speculate away.
