The Kidd here...
As the individual members of THE AVENGERS go their separate ways for Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it only makes sense for some of the supporting characters involved to start taking sides. After all, if things are going to be kept isolated until the gang gets back together for THE AVENGERS 2, then some of the supporting players that also exist in this world are going to have to take up residence in one particular franchise or another... and it looks like the first line in the sand has been drawn.
In an interview with I Am Rogue, Cobie Smulders, who played S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill in THE AVENGERS, confirmed that she'd be back reprising her role in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow also setting up shop in the Captain America thread moving forward. But don't ask her for any tidbits on what exactly she'll be doing in the film, or what anyone else will be doing for that matter, because she really has no clue whatsoever.
"I’ve seen parts of it, but yeah I don’t know much. This is Marvel! They don’t let you know anything... It’s very watermarked scripts, heavily watermarked. Yeah, they don’t let you know like the day of, but they are very secretive and I think they are still figuring stuff out."
One thing she does have a little bit more information about though is her potential involvement in the S.H.I.E.L.D. television series. While she isn't locked up yet at all to participate, "The commitments to [HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER] don’t affect it. And I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it." I get the feeling it won't be long before that's etched in stone.
