Once upon a time, Andrew Fleming co-wrote and directed DICK, an unusually smart political spoof in which two bubbly teenage girls (Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams) bring down the Nixon administration. It was an distinct change of pace for the man who'd previously brought us BAD DREAMS, THREESOME and THE CRAFT, and it was especially welcome at a time when the gross-out comedy was beginning to dominate production slates at every major studio (provided they weren't jammed up with Freddie Prinze Jr./Matthew Lillard two-handers - those were the days!).

Hey, everyone. Capone in Chicago here, just getting ready to hit my first-ever ComicCon in a couple of days and expecting four of the most exhausting days of my life. But before I hop on the plane headed due west and south, I wanted to post the names of those lucky folks who get to attend the Ain't It Cool screening of HAMLET 2 on the evening of Tuesday, July 29 in Chicago. Each one of these names is a Plus 1, by the way.

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.
My fierce dedication to bringing the cream of the crop of this summer's releases continues, and this time we've got a special guest. Fresh from his appearance at ComicCon, master comic actor Steve Coogan (24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE; COFFEE & CIGARETTES; A COCK & BULL STORY; MARIE ANTOINETTE; NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM; HOT FUZZ; and the upcoming TROPIC THUNDER) will be doing a post-screening Q&A with yours truly after a showing of his starring vehicle HAMLET 2, one of the most talked about films at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

Holy crap, that was fast. I stepped away from my computer for 20 minutes and I have an inbox filled with ROCK ME SEXY QUINT messages... not that that's an uncommon sight... eh...
Guess I need to go tougher on the trivia questions next time.
I'll email all the winners separately, but here's the list of the lucky 10:
Wajahat Ali
Tait Hove
Sean Novak
Greg Adkins
Jeff Howell
Brett Rader
John McCracken
John Hudgens
Lars Schear
Chuck Belcher

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
I think I’m seeing this film later tonight, and I’m curious. I wouldn’t say I’m all hyped up, but I like Coogan, and I like Pam Brady, and I like comedy, and I like the gigantic supporting cast.
So will I like the movie?

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
And it’s funny as shit!
Coogan’s on a roll this year, too, just like Robert Downey Jr. I think everyone who’s having a good year in multiple films seems to have one of those good films in common in the form of TROPIC THUNDER. I’m glad to see Coogan in a couple of films that have real break-out potential here in the U.S. He’s a brutally funny and sharp performer, and he’s been a cult icon for far too long.

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
My guess is that they’re just doing this for marketing purposes. The film killed at Sundance, and I doubt this is conventional testing to alter the film. Then again, I know they shot this fast in order to make the Sundance deadline, so maybe they’ll take some time to tweak it now that they know they’ve got a distributor.
Either way, here’s what one spy thought:

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here finally catching up on my Sundance coverage. In the last month I’ve seen somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-60 films theatrically and another half dozen screeners to add onto that pile.
Of all those movies only about a fifth were damn good and of those only a handful that are what I’d call fuckin’ good or better.
HAMLET 2 made the cut.

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
Normally I’d at least throw in a few paragraph breaks, but I like the way this guy’s one solid paragraph sort of imparts his enthusiasm for the entire experience. Like he just couldn’t wait to tell us.
And I love his nickname. Made me laugh. Because I am evidently thirteen years old.

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
Variety broke the story last week, and several people have written in, excited about this next project from comedy legend Steve Coogan.
Coogan’s taken a bit of a shellacking in the press in the last couple of weeks by people determined to tie him to the whole Owen Wilson thing, but there’s no question that he remains one of the most justifiably lauded comic performers in England. I think the premise of this film is hilarious, and with Coogan starring and Pam Brady writing, it’s got real potential. I like Andy Fleming’s DICK... and I like that film he made with Kirsten Dunst, too, so consider me interested. This is one to keep an eye on as it develops:
