Capone Runs Laps Around RUN FATBOY RUN and Bets Against 21!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Wait a minute... did I actually manage to post reviews of something before Capone did? Holy crap! I hereby declare a national holiday, and while I celebrate and set up all the fireworks in the backyard, here’s Capone on RUN FATBOY RUN:

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.

Quint interviews Jim Sturgess! 21! Kevin Spacey! Gambling! And more!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. There are two schools of thought when it comes to newcomer Jim Sturgess. You can be in the Capone camp who thinks he’s a black-hole of charisma or you can be with the rest of us that think there’s something special going on with this guy. I really dug his work in ACROSS THE UNIVERSE and I like him in 21, but he hasn’t found his break-out role yet. I feel it’s coming, but all the stars haven’t aligned yet.

Moriarty Gambles On Zak Penn’s THE GRAND And Sony’s 21!

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.

Have I mentioned before how much I find games of chance to be irritating on film?

I’m pretty sure I first wrote about this when they decided to change the featured game from baccarat to poker in CASINO ROYALE. In the end, I think it didn’t really matter because the card-playing was next to irrelevant in the Bond film. They could have been playing CANDY LAND for all it mattered. Ultimately, it was just an excuse for Mads Mikkelsen and Daniel Craig to glower at each other across a table for a while before the ball-slapping began.

Quint interviews actual card counter Jeff Ma about his life as depicted in 21!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. This interview was a it of a surprise for me. I showed up for Jim Sturgess and Robert Luketic and had no idea Jeff Ma, the guy Sturgess’ character is based on, was going to be available.

It’s not a long interview, but we talk quite a bit about counting cards, having a film made about your experiences and just how involved he really was in the film. Enjoy!

Quint: So how are you?

Quint and director Robert Luketic chat about 21, Vegas and more!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I had a day at SXSW this year almost entirely devoted to doing interviews for 21. I was able to sit down with star Jim Sturgess, real-life MIT card counter Jeff Ma and the director, Robert Luketic, best known for his comedy work like LEGALLY BLONDE, MONSTER-IN-LAW and WIN A DATE WITH TAD HAMILTON.

SXSW 08! Monki's First Report! SUPER HIGH ME and 21!

Greetings humans, Monki here with my first round of updates from the South By Southwest Film Festival 2008! I spent my opening day swinging from the rafters of the beautiful Paramount Theater while checking out Super High Me and the Vegas flick 21.

On a side note, I probably had the quickest, easiest time through the SXSW registration line ever. I'm not sure why exactly but it seems like after a few years of doing this they don't freak out about my furry paws any more. Good job SXSW volunteers!

A spy doubles down on the MIT Blackjack flick 21 starring Spacey, Fishburne and Bosworth!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I can't play blackjack anymore. I do enjoy gambling (totally small time, of course), but I don't think I've won at Blackjack in 4 years. My casino game of choice now is poker. It's slow, I have a little control over what I do and while the stakes aren't huge, neither is the pressure. I have fun playing it.

But I do love blackjack... I just don't win at it.

So, yeah. I know of this story, about how 6 MIT students constructed a plot involving card counting to hit up Vegas for all they could. It sounds like it'd make a great movie and from the below review they just might have a great movie ready for us come March '08 when the film is released. This is a very early screening. Keep that in mind while reading. And Johnny B. Rotten doesn't like to capitalize. Keep that in mind, too. heh Enjoy!
