Harry says DOOMSDAY is bugnuts!

On the last day of SXSW – I was depressed… the flu killed SXSW as an experience for me. And once you’ve been spitting up nasty chunks of lung slime – the sorts of films that play SXSW – just isn’t what I needed on that last day.

I wanted to see a movie, but what?

Then RAV popped up on AIM and asked, “Have you seen DOOMSDAY yet?” – To which I responded that my ass has been sick – and he said I should see it cuz it’s ridiculous fun.

Neil Marshall's post-apocalyptic actioneer DOOMSDAY has screened!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. DOOMSDAY, the next from THE DESCENT and DOG SOLDIERS' Neil Marshall, has screened before to some pretty bad reviews, but it looks like now they gathered up all the bitchy comment cards and are on to the next round of screenings after more tweaking. I saw a preview for this at Comic-Con and it was pretty cool looking. I hope it lives up to the promise of a hard-ass '80s style post-apocalyptic adventure story directed by Neil Marshall... the following review gives some credence to that hope. Enjoy!

Two New DOOMSDAY Reviews For You!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

This breaks my heart a little bit.

I like Neil Marshall. I don’t think he’s made a “great” film yet, but his genre work is spirited and impressive, and he seems to have near-boundless enthusiasm for the films he makes. I’m looking forward to DOOMSDAY, fingers crossed, and I hope it’s the next step in a promising career and not a stumble.

This first review, though... sheeeeeesh...

A Very Different Review For Neal Marshall’s DOOMSDAY!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I’m all for this. We ran a fairly scathing review from a test screening of DOOMSDAY, the new post-Apocalyptic thriller from Neal Marshall, director of DOG SOLDIERS and THE DESCENT. I’m a fan of this guy’s work, and I am certainly hoping that it’s better than the last spy suggested. Evidently, someone else who saw this early test screening was unhappy with what they read here, and they sent in this report.

I remain eager for our first look at the film sometime soon, hopefully:

A Spy Gets A Look At Neil Marshall’s DOOMSDAY! How’s It Shaping Up?!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I’d say there’s a lot of expectation placed on this film right now. Neil Marshall has been “the next big thing” for a while now. THE DESCENT and DOG SOLDIERS both garnered some pretty effusive praise, but neither one was a breakout hit for him. He’s got the goods as a filmmaker... I think that’s obvious by now... but he hasn’t put it together 100% yet and made that movie that really cemented his place.

Is this one going to be it? Man, I hope so. And I know a lot of other people who are rooting for Marshall, too. Let’s see what our spy thought of it:

More from Quint at Comic-Con! Neil Marshall's DOOMSDAY! BALLS OF FURY! Lo Pan! THE STRANGERS! CORALINE! More!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Time to catch up a bit on the Comic-Con coverage. Yesterday ‘bout damn killed me. I did 6 interviews, jumping in and out of panels all to do them. Next year I really need some help. I missed too much this year.

Also, looking back on it I’d say that this was one of the Con’s more off years. We had that one great movie panel (Paramount with Trek, Indy 4 and Iron Man), but I was underwhelmed by the Con on the whole. Nothing was too terribly disappointing, but the showmanship seemed out of the con.

However, I did like a lot of what I saw. The Rogue Panel featured BALLS OF FURY, THE STRANGERS and DOOMSDAY.
