UPDATE!! Showtime announced early Tuesday morning that it had ordered a fourth and fifth season of "Dexter." Each season will comprise 12 episodes.
Dexter's third-season opener attracted 1.2 million viewers. While meager compared to ratings scored by most HBO dramas, the opening was the second biggest series premiere in Showtime's history, second only to June's fourth-season "Weeds" opener.
The boundlessly resourceful and insightful Capone returns with a look at tonight’s installment:

John Dahl is one of the greatest creators of low-grossing movies alive (rent “Red Rock West” at once if you don’t know what I’m talking about) and tonight he turns his attention to Showtime’s favorite scheming psychopath.

Ratings for “Dexter” are rising, albeit more slowly. Its 1st-season premiere was seen by about 334,000 viewers, its 2nd-season premiere was watched by about million, and last week’s 3rd-season launch hit 1.2 million (thanks no doubt to the show’s CBS writers-strike run and its “outstanding drama” Emmy nomination). The June 16 installment of “Weeds” still holds the Showtime series-premiere record of 1.3 million viewers.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here making a quick trip into Coax territory. I’ve heard nothing but great things about Showtime’s series, DEXTER, so when I was offered the chance to review Season 2 early, I took it. I was also able to weasel a copy of Season 1 out of the deal, so over the last few days I’ve had a bit of a Dexter marathon starting with 1.1 and ending with 2.12, some 24 hours of television.

“Dexter,” the acclaimed Showtime hourlong about a disturbed Miami forensics expert who spends his off-hours torturing and killing no-goodnicks, returns tonight
It stars Michael Hall (gay David from “Six Feet Under”), Julie Benz (vampire Darla from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel”), Lauren Velez (hot Dr. Nathan from “Oz”) and Jennifer Carpenter (the title character in “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”).
Though I didn’t make it past the series’ pilot last season, I felt not too lost coming into 2.1. Suspicious Sgt. Doakes has been tailing Dexter every night since Dexter murdered his long-lost serial-killer brother, so Dexter has had no outlet in which to indulge his urges. When Dexter finally shakes Doakes, the vigilante psycho is vexed with more than one kind of performance anxiety.

"Dexter" returns to Showtime with a second season Sept. 30.
“Nochez,” an untested spy, claims to have seen that season’s first two episodes. Beware potential uninvisotexted spoilers. Here’s his rundown:
Aloha, from O'ahu. I didnt see anything yet about this so thought i would send in and maybe get on coaxial. I just saw the first two eps of Dexter. I was looking forward to sept and was happy as hell to see these early. ill start with the generals and go to spoilers after so u have a chance to get out. the title sequence is the same. theres a full recap of last season which got me a little goosepimply about 2 eps right away. it takes place starting 38 days after dexter killed the ice truck/ brother killer. everyones back as far as i can tell. sis is just as hot even tho she aint dressed like a hooker this time. the asian buddy forensic guy is on point and doakes is harder on his ass than ever. its gonna be a great season. now for spoilers. u have been warned.
