Quint talks to director Jon Poll about CHARLIE BARTLETT, Anton Yelchin, Robert Downey Jr. and Anna Faris masturbating!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a long chat I had with Jon Poll. I know that a great many of you probably clicked onto this interview because of the Anna Faris masturbating part of the headline. I would have... I probably wouldn't have seen any other words in the headline, so I understand. Anna Faris' self-pleasuring has to do with Poll's next film, which we talk about towards the end of the interview.

Capone Sees JJ's Chekhov In CHARLIE BARTLETT!!

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.

This small little film might be the one I've struggled over more than anything else I've seen so far this year. It's a modest work with bold intentions and some of the finest performances I've seen all year, but it's not the kind of movie that's particularly easy to love.

Quint wants to be friends with CHARLIE BARTLETT!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I’ve noticed a trend recently. A good trend. At Sundance I saw a film called THE ASSASSINATION OF A HIGH SCHOOL PRESIDENT and there was something about it that stuck out to me. I really dug it… it’s a good dark comedy, but it wasn’t the dark part that jumped out to me.

I look at SUPERBAD and I get a similar feeling.

'Problem Pasture' votes CHARLIE BARTLETT for school president!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I was at this screening myself here in Austin and I'll have my review out shortly... however, Problem Pasture's opinion is really close to my own... I think I liked it just a tad bit more than he did, but it's not that far off.

Enjoy the review!

Hey gang.

CHARLIE BARTLETT May Have Been Pushed To ’08, But We’ve Got A Review For You Now!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I liked the trailer for this one, and they were screening it in LA fairly frequently, so I was trying to find room in the schedule to see it, until I heard that they had yanked it and pushed it back to ’08. I guess that gives me time to catch up with it at some point, but I’m still curious... is it as interesting as it appeared to be?

Ahoy-hoy - I've been a longtime obsessive reader of AICN, but this is my first time submitting a review. I'll try to keep things brief...

Last night I went and saw a preview screening of the movie "Charlie Bartlett" at the Lagoon Theater in Minneapolis, MN. The movie stars Anton Yelchin (Alpha Dog), Hope Davis (American Splendor), Kat Dennings (The 40 Year Old Virgin), and Robert Downey Jr. (Zodiac), and is directed by Jon Poll - who, as far as I can tell, has edited a great number of movies, but this would be only his first or second shot at directing (imdb.com has his first directing credit as something called "The Tree".)

Bungion Boy’s Seen CHARLIE BARTLETT!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I’m planning to see this one and ROCKET SCIENCE in the weeks ahead, and I hope I enjoy both of them. Our semi-regular spy Bungion Boy has seen both, and it sounds like he’s definitely got a fave of the two. Check this out:

Hey Harry, Mori, etc. Bungion Boy here in New York. I have just returned from a screening of “Charlie Bartlett.” I went in with virtually no expectations, not knowing much about the film other than the cast and basic premise, and still managed to find myself disappointed. The following includes some spoilers, unless you’ve ever seen a movie like this before. “Charlie Bartlett,” is one of those quirky, R rated comedies about teenagers and high school. It’s in the spirit of “Rushmore,” “Election,” and “Thumbsucker. Funny. I think I wrote that exact same sentence in my review for “Rocket Science” several months ago. But where that film really succeeded with me, while not being the most original film I’d ever seen, this one kind of falls flat. Look, I don’t need to see a completely original story every time I go to the movies. Good plots and themes get recycled all the time and if they’re recycled effectively than I’ll enjoy it. In fact the films I previously mentioned were also kind of rehashes or other movies or each other, but that didn’t stop them from being good movies. “Charlie Bartlett” isn’t a good movie though.

Who Is CHARLIE BARTLETT, And Should We Bother Seeing Him?!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I’ve heard a little bit about this one, and I’ve tried to make a few screenings, but timing has prevented me thus far. Still... sounds interesting.

Tonight I got to see Charlie Bartlett at the Los Angeles Film Festival and all I can say is SEE THIS MOVIE. If you’ve been waiting to see a real teen movie since 1985 when the credits to The Breakfast Club stopped rolling, the genie has granted your wish. This is a rated-R honest to god funny, real, touching teen flick. And if you want more of them, I implore that you support this one. I haven’t seen any advertising for this, although my roommate swears he’s seen a trailer, and it’s coming out at the beginning of August, so it could easily slip through the cracks, but this is the type of movie that isn’t being made anymore. At the Q and A afterwards, the filmmakers copped to Harold and Maude being an influence, and while this is lighter in tone than that, they come from the same ilk.
