Hey folks, Harry here - not with MOVIE news, but basically one of those rare moments where we, the geeks behind Ain't It Cool News... well, we're big fucking geeks.

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.
The second of our two big AICN screenings in Chicago next week will be the glorious, moving, funny, adventurous new film from Pixar called UP, from MONSTERS INC. director Pete Docter, who I spoke with a couple weeks ago (I'll have that interview for you next week). I've only seen the film in 2-D so far, and I fell in love with everything about this movie. But our screening will be in all three dimensions. Oh yeah, 3-D baby!

You can't trust me on a Pixar movie. You just can't. I'm saying that right out because at this point, I hold that studio in such high esteem that it's difficult for me to imagine a better run of films by any single creative force. Miyazaki, maybe. Spielberg from 1975-1987. But even those two have some clunkers in there. Pixar has none, not even CARS, which instead of adoring I merely like a lot. And now we come to their 10th film, UP, directed by MONSTERS INC.'s Pete Docter, and their new short, PARTLY CLOUDY, directed by animator Peter Sohn.

Masterpiece is such an over used phrase when it comes to PIXAR – because if very nearly every film is either almost a masterpiece, a simple masterpiece or a heartbreakingly brilliant masterpiece – the meaning is drained from the word and the only adjective I’m left with to describe one their films is to simply state… it is a Pixar Movie – and that carries the weight of its own realized expectations.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with my first report of the convention. For starters, I must apologize for not having any coverage of the Sherlock Holmes footage for you. I skipped the 9:15 panel this morning, but I did so because nothing was listed in the program as happening and I hadn’t heard anything in advance.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I’m currently getting ready to hit ShoWest. It’s going to be a lite con this year, but I did lock in an interview with the great Michael Caine. In preparation, I’m watching a ton of Michael Caine movies, some I’ve seen, some I haven’t. Just watched THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING for the first time and it was awesome.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I've been lucky enough to see the beginning of UP in two different forms... One is a shorter form comprised almost completely of storyboards, which I saw April of 2008 and then the opening 45 minutes that played at BNAT which was mostly finished. Both times Carl's heartbreaking story got to me and I felt that UP looked to be classic Pixar.

Hey folks, Harry here... I think UP will be the greatest Grandpa taking his grandkids to see a movie MOVIE ever. I feel the best Grandma taking the grandkids to a movie MOVIE was BEDKNOBS & BROOMSTICKS, but I feel this gives Grandpa a chance. The following video I don't think is from the actual film, but rather a short using the characters from the film to get you, the audience, wanting to see the larger adventure of UP. At least that's what I hope is going on here. Check it out!

Hey folks, Harry here... Ok, this isn't a film about a squirrel... as far as you know... but those of us that were at BUTT-NUMB-A-THON X... we feel differently. It is all about the squirrel. Not that we saw one. Not yet. But this will be one of the best films you see this year. Well, at the very least one of the best first halves of a film you see this year. Haven't seen the second half yet, but I bet it is amazing. This latest poster introduces us to a new character. A dog. That dog is AMAZING.

The first 45 minutes of UP were not just the very best pieces of footage fest shown at BNAT – it was the VERY BEST THING shown at BNAT. Period. Long ago, seemingly in a galaxy far, far away, I was the guy who just wasn’t into Pixar like everybody else around here. But they keep getting better and better. As much as I LOVED Wall-E, this had me involved and in love within the first ten minutes.

Hey folks, Harry here... Aren't you curious as hell about where this film is going? In some ways it feels like the most Miyazaki of all PIXAR films from what we've seen thus far, but the narration's insistence that he'll be exploring a lost world... What's UP? Personally, I can't wait to find out!

Put simply, Pete Docter's UP is the tale of an adventurer who travels via house to the jungles of South America. That's probably unique enough, but here's the kicker: our daring protagonist is the kind of fellow who pays half-price at the movies and eats his dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon.

Hey folks, Harry here... I really have no clue about UP - I know that one of our non-Quint AICN agents sat with the director of this... I believe it was Mr Beaks - but I could be confused, because I'm getting old. I really am. But not as old as the guy on the front porch you'll be seeing shortly. Unless you wait to see it when we repost with an Apple HD version - which I have to believe is coming shortly. Here ya go - the latest PIXAR teaser...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Instead of dropping 3 paragraph stories for each title covered in the big Disney Animation Presentation, I think I’m going to break it up into two more stories. One will covered Pixar and their slate and the other will cover the slate of Disney Animation.
This one is Pixar-centric. I’ll write up Disney’s tomorrow.
Here will be news, footage, stills and filmmaker discussions about WALL-E, UP, TOY STORY 3, NEWT and the theatrical re-releases of TOY STORYs 1 and 2.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Any news is good news when it comes to Pixar projects. And I like the way this new one is sounding.
Of course, they have WALL-E for next summer, but the project after that is called UP, about a 70 year old man who teams with a wilderness ranger to fight "beasts and villains." I'm hoping there's a supernatural bent to this and beasts means monsters.
Pete Docter (MONSTERS, INC) directs with Pixar vet Bob Peterson, who also wrote the script.
