When CBS announces its 2008-2009 schedule on Wednesday, its vampire private investigator drama “Moonlight” will not be on it, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The same story indicates that sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” will be CBS’ only sophomore series in the coming season. “Cane,” “Welcome to the Captain,” “Kid Nation” and “Viva Laughlin” were CBS series that didn't get beyond season one.

I am – Hercules!!
A supernatural hourlong from writer-producers Ron Koslow (“Beauty and the Beast”) and Trevor Munson (“Lone Star State of Mind”), “Moonlight” follows a convertible-driving Los Angeles vampire private detective (Australian Alex O'Loughlin) who falls for a blonde young mortal (Britisher Sophia Myles).
“Moonlight” is no “Angel,” but what could be? (It did, for the record, have “Angel” co-creator David Greenwalt on staff as showrunner for a few weeks; he moved on, citing health concerns.)
Jason Dohring turns up in a supporting role as a very old vampire, as if to remind us he played a supporting role on “Veronica Mars,” a much better Southern California P.I. series. Rudolf Martin guest stars as a faux vampire, as if to remind us he played Dracula on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” a much better contemporary Southern California vampire series.

I am – Hercules!!
“Millennium” writer-producer Chip Johannessen has replaced David Greenwalt as showrunner of “Moonlight,” CBS’ new vampire private-detective drama.
This dashes hopes that Rob Thomas – who collaborated with “Moonlight” producer Joel Silver as showrunner of the CW’s acclaimed private-detective drama “Veronica Mars” for three seasons – might be recruited for “Moonlight.”

“Angel” creator David Greenwalt has apparently just left his job as showrunner of CBS’ vampire private-investigator drama “Moonlight,” citing health concerns.
Hrm.
Rob Thomas was showrunner of Joel Silver’s private-investigator drama “Veronica Mars” for three seasons. And Thomas just quit his job as showrunner of the ABC sitcom “Miss/Guided” this week, citing creative differences.
Would “Moonlight” producer Silver recruit Thomas to take over “Moonlight”?
If anybody out there is going to Comic Con’s Friday afternoon “Moonlight” panel, kindly ask.

Josef, the ancient vampire originally played by 60-year-old Croatia native Rade Serbedzija, will now be played by 25-year-old Ohio native Jason Dohring on CBS' new fall series “Moonlight.”
Dohring previously played Logan Echolls, troubled teen spawn of movie stars, on all three seasons of “Veronica Mars.”
This marks the second major recent cast change for “Moonlight.” Britisher Sophia Myles (“Underworld Evolution,” “Art School Confidential”) very recently replaced Texan Shannon Lucio (“The O.C.”) as the series’ female lead.
“Moonlight,” the tale of a vampire private detective who falls for a young mortal woman, boasts as its new showrunner “Angel” co-creator David Greenwalt.

CBS has hired David Greenwalt - who co-created and oversaw the WB vampire private detective series “Angel” with Joss Whedon - to serve as showrunner of the upcoming vampire private detective series “Moonlight”!
Like the title character in “Angel,” the main vampire character in “Moonlight” became a bloodsucker decades ago when he was bitten by a vampire girlfriend. He subsequently falls for a mortal girl.
Unlike the Los Angeles-based Angel, CBS’ new vampire P.I. (Alex O’Loughlin) operates in New York.

I am – Hercules!!
CBS has four new hourlongs and a new sitcom coming to its schedule this autumn.
New hourlongs:
“Moonlight,” from writer-producer Ron Koslow (CBS’ “Beauty and the Beast”), is about a vampire who makes his living as a private detective. No word on whether his firm is called “Angel Investigations” or not. Alex O'Loughlin (“The Invisible”) stars.
“Cane,” from writer-producer Cynthia Cidre (“Fires Within,” “Mambo Kings”) is about a powerful Latino family that runs a rum business in South Florida. Jimmy Smits (“The West Wing”) stars.
“Laughlin,” a musical (!) from writer-producer Bob Lowry (“Huff”), is about a guy who dreams of opening a Nevada casino. It’s based on the Brit show “Blackpool.” IMDb says Hugh Jackman’s in it, along with Madchen Amick (“Twin Peaks,” “ER”), Wings Hauser (“The Insider”) and D.B. Woodside (“24”).
“Swingtown,” from writer-producer Mike Kelley (“The OC,” “Jericho”), is and “Ice Storm”-ish drama about suburban wife-swappers in the swinging 1970s. It stars Molly Parker (“Deadwood”) and Grant Show (“Point Pleasant,” “Dirt”).
