Despite having a lot of flaws, a LOT of flaws… THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR succeeds at being pretty much in line with the two prior installments of the MUMMY series… it is, despite everything, goofy fun.
Going in you should know that you will be missing Rachel Weisz. And you should also know that Rob Cohen should be put in some sort of cinematic reform school for criminal mishandling of the long awaited Jet Li versus Michelle Yeoh face-off… which fans of Asian martial arts cinema have been waiting decades to see. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
I haven’t been to ShoWest in a lot of years now, but part of the fun of it was seeing all the poster art that got premiered there and all the theater standees that they’re going to be sending out soon.
Looks like the guys over at IESB are already there and snapping photos of everything. They got some good stuff that I hadn’t seen before, like this one for Frank Miller’s THE SPIRIT...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I am recently returned from a trip to Budapest to watch a night of shooting on HELLBOY II, so I can confirm pretty much everything our new spy has to say about the project.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I can't say I blame Rachel Weisz for ditching the Mummy series. I'll be sad, because it was her presence that helped get me through them so far. But ditch it she has, according to Variety.
They also report that Brendan Fraser will be returning after closing an incredibly lucrative deal. Good for him getting a payday, but he's not as adorable to watch... okay, he's close, but not quite as cute as Weisz.
Rob Cohen is directing

Hey folks, Harry here - seems that Rob Cohen is possibly up to something very cool with THE MUMMY 3 - given that he apparently has Jet Li in negotiations to play his chinese mummy in the latest incarnation of that Stephen Sommers franchise.
First off - you should know this film is following the grown up adventures of Brendan and Rachel's son - who has since fought in World War II and has in his post war years taken to the "family business" of Archeology and necro-ass-kickery.
I'm one of the rare breed - that didn't care too much for the first MUMMY, but was won over by the silliness of the second (though I hated the Scorpion King's effects in that one - and that off-shoot film, as well). I'm genuinely curious to see what a non-Sommers directed MUMMY flick will be like, although - Rob Cohen is possibly an even more hyperactive director than Stephen - albeit less Saturday morning cartoony... and more 'extreme' about his hyperactivity.
