Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here. We here at AICN have covered many behind-the-scenes aspects of the magnificent new film THE ORPHANAGE, which opened wider last Friday, including interviews with screenwriter Sergio Sanchez, director Juan Antonio Bayona, and executive producer Guillermo del Toro. But I recently sat down with the woman who leads the incredible cast of of THE ORPHANAGE to some very dark places, lead actress Belén Rueda, best known to North American audiences from her role opposite Javier Bardem in 2004's THE SEA INSIDE.

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.
Death is a big subject. Maybe one of the biggest of the big subjects. Artists routinely wrestle with issues of mortality and existence, and with some filmmakers, it seems like the longer they work, the more focused all of their energy becomes on thoughts of death: what it means, what it leads to, how it unites us.

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here. One of the most haunting films of 2007 is, coincidentally, a film about haunting. Produced by Guillermo del Toro, THE ORPHANGE (Spain's entry for Best Foreign Language Film Oscar consideration) is a beautiful work from first-time feature director Juan Antonio Bayona and first-time feature screenwriter Sergio Sanchez, who has written what will likely be Del Toro's first post-HELLBOY 2 screenplay 3993, the third of his Spanish Civil War trilogy.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with an interview I did during Fantastic Fest with Juan Antonio Bayona and Sergio Sanchez, the director and writer, respectfully, of THE ORPHANAGE, a wonderful creepy little flick that sees release this December.
I really loved the film and its Fantastic Fest screening went very well, making it one of the most talked about films of the festival.

Look, there's just no other way to say this – so I'm just gonna come right out and say it. I saw The Orphanage (El Orfanato) tonight. And it made me cry like a little bitch. I'm not talking about some masculine tear up in which I felt the tingles but fought it back, either. No. These were bitch tears. I went all sissy for this film. And you know what? I don't care who knows. This movie rocked me, scared me then pulled out pictures of my mom and showed them to me. And I wept. Don't laugh. You might too.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. You’re about to get really, really sick of me… if you aren’t already. The last few days I’ve been lost in two different worlds. In one I’ve been watching over 30 films, up to 5 a day, and in the other I’ve been digitally killing aliens and zombies in a suit of Spartan armor.
Now I’m in the final stages of Fantastic Fest and I’ll be bombarding you with reviews, some of which I’ve had to hold because they’re films I’m judging for the AMD Next Wave competition for the fest.
I have to say, I’ve seen a lot of strong films and a surprisingly high amount of them have come out of Spain.

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
I’ve only seen a few stills from this. I don’t even want to see a trailer. What I’ve seen so far gives me the heebie-jeebies, and I love it. I hope this film delivers on the word of mouth it’s been building since Cannes at the start of the summer, and I’m glad to see reviews of it show up in the inbox.
Especially from a spy with such a great, great nickname:
Greetings Mori,
Sent this to Harry but sending it your way as well. Hitting up Toronto for the Fest, and had the pleasure of seeing The Orphanage.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a few looks at some of the Frightfest flicks from a couple of our spies, including the good Dr. William Weir. Don't ask me how he watches these movies without eye-balls, but he does it, even hearing it over the backwards creepy Latin that is always running through his head. Anyway, this spy is here to tell us about DAYWATCH, the sequel to NIGHTWATCH, and THE ORPHANAGE. We got another report about THE ORPHANAGE immediately following! Enjoy!
Dear Dr Harry,
Life can be boring on the Event Horizon. Not much to do, aeons spent waiting for people to arrive to throw one of my special parties... so sometimes I like to kick in the drive to go "back in time", as it were, and enjoy some historic events. One of these was heading down to London, Earth, to enjoy the Fright Fest, where I caught both Daywatch and The Orphanage in their UK cinema debuts.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. This one looks great! I can't wait to see it... I think (hope) it plays Fantastic Fest... Produced by Guillermo Del Toro and all the reviews have been phenomenal, including the one below! Enjoy!!!
Hey Harry,
I just saw the Orphanage and just wanted to let you guys know just how amazing it is!
I saw The Orphanage last night at London's Fright Fest. To be honest I'd be surprised if you haven't already had reviews from other Fright Fest goers and I'm not the best with words but this film was too good to not say something about it.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Yes, I want to see this. Real bad.
This flick opened in Cannes to great reviews... bastards... Creepy anythings with Guillermo Del Toro's name attached has my ass in a seat.
The flick stars Belen Rueda, from THE SEA INSIDE, and focuses on a lady who returns to her childhood home now a mother. She decided to turn the place into an Orphanage... as her little son begins making new friends... invisible ones...
A site called loshorasperdidas.com got the scoop. Check out the poster below!
