And TINTIN will be...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here.

His name is Thomas Sangster. I know it takes away my manliness to say this, but LOVE, ACTUALLY is one of my favorite rom-coms. I love that film and everybody (who is a romantic at heart, mind you) that I've shown the film or suggested it to has loved it. And Sangster is part of the reason that film works.

WHO is writing TINTIN for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson?!?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Who's writing TINTIN? Steven Moffat, that's who. He's a British writer most known for his work on DR. WHO and JEKYLL. I actually just got the first season of JEKYLL... can't wait to check it out.

If you haven't been keeping up on the project, it's pretty fascinating. Both Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg are big TINTIN fans and they'll both be directing one film each of a trilogy of TINTIN flicks, all done using performance capture technology for a digital 3-D release. The third director has yet to be chosen... but who is going to feel at home there? They can't just go pick anybody... "Steven Spielberg! Peter Jackson! And... McG!" See, it doesn't work.

Steven Spielberg! Peter Jackson! TINTIN!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

So I’m not sure if The Hollywood Reporter or Variety broke this story, since I was at a screening earlier tonight, but whoever did, this is pretty much the textbook definition of cool news.

I grew up reading the TINTIN books. Last year, I watched a great documentary about Herge, the creator of the series, and I was struck again how ripe these stories are for adaptation. These are some of the richest examples of graphic literature ever created, and this plan to make a trilogy of 3D mo-cap CG films would be exciting, even if they hadn’t announced that Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson would each direct one of the movies.

Okay, now it's officially official that Spielberg has the rights to TINTIN!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. It's been known that Steven Spielberg was after the TINTIN rights since the early '80s. In fact, I was under the impression that Spielberg already had them. In fact, when I met the man on the WAR OF THE WORLDS set he talked about TINTIN, specifically a Weta test reel he received with Peter Jackson actually acting in it... the whole thing showing off Snowy, Tintin's dog, a completely CG creation from the wizards at Weta.

They just announced that Herge Studios, which owns the 23 book series, finalized their deal with Amblin/Spielberg/Dreamworks, stressing that Spielberg will most likely only act as producer.
