Quint takes a look at THE MIST and SWEENEY TODD 2-discers!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a quick look at two upcoming DVD releases. THE MIST hits on DVD this very day and SWEENEY TODD hits next Tuesday. Both have single disc edition and two-disc special editions. Of course, the single disc editions on both are worthless, and the two-discers are the ones to opt for.

Moriarty’s One Thing I Love Today! The Black-and-White Version Of THE MIST!

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.

I liked THE MIST a hell of a lot.

In fact, I liked it so much I named it #16 on my end-of-the-year list.

If they had released the new black-and-white version of the film in theaters, I honestly think that (A) it would have made more and (B) critics would have handled it better. As it is, this is the new JOHN CARPENTER’S THE THING. This is that real-deal no-shit horror film that will have to settle for being “rediscovered.”

A Ton Of Last Minute MIST Reviews For You!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Wow. I can’t believe the release date for this film is already here. They just got the greenlight a few weeks ago, feels like. Of course, this was one of those films that was rumored for so long that I think part of me just expected it would never happen.

And now, here it is. And people seem to be pretty hotly divided over the merits of Darabont’s new feature. Where will you guys fall? I’m eager to see how it plays out in talkbacks and on message boards in the next few weeks.

Capone Interviews Frank Darabont!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

I haven’t seen the final release version of Frank Darabont’s THE MIST yet, but Frank mentioned to me in e-mail last week that he tightened it up from what I saw, and that he’s really pleased with how it turned out.

Quint did a great job with his interview with Frank, and Capone’s follow-up makes an interesting counterpoint, and it turns out, they made better use of their time with Frank that I originally knew:

Harry screams in THE MIST!!!

When I first heard the story of THE MIST it was with the stunning innovation of 3D sound. After I bought that cassette (remember those) – I read the novella. This wasn’t a high-minded Stephen King story… what it reminded me of was those wondrous B-movies of the 50s. Films like INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS and MONOLITH MONSTERS or INVASION OF THE SAUCER MEN. It had elements of my favorite horror film for most of my life (and some days, it still holds the top spot), I am referring to NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.

Quint chats with Frank Darabont and Greg Nicotero about THE MIST, FAHRENHEIT 451 and THE LONG WALK!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a particularly good interview I was recently a part of with director Frank Darabont and KNB legend Greg Nicotero. We got together when they were both in Austin to premiere THE MIST, which Darabont adapted and directed, with Nicotero serving in his normal function as show-runner for KNB EFX as well as handling all the second unit directing.

Another pair of reviews from THE MIST come in! One loves it, one hates it! Who is right?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Never let it be said I don't give both sides when it comes to a particular film. I have two reviews that came in for Frank Darabont's adaptation of Stephen King's THE MIST. The first is a really, really, really negative reaction to the flick and the second is pretty much the polar opposite. Beware of slight spoilers, especially if you don't know anything about King's original story. Enjoy!

Quint,

A few reviews have creeped in from last night's AICN premiere of THE MIST!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. The screening Harry arranged last night was pretty great, despite some last minute location changes. I've debated whether or not I'm going to write a review myself. It's tricky territory. Many involved with this film are people I'd consider friends and I spent so much time on the set that I don't know if I feel good about writing a review.

There's something in the mist!!! It's an Internet-only Trailer!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Looks like the good folks at IGN got their hands on the internet trailer for Frank Darabont's Stephen King's THE MIST. Some enterprising soul posted it to youtube, so you can check that out below or click on the IGN link above to download the better Quicktime version.

You get more Mrs. Carmody and a bit more of the interaction within the store. I'm pretty psyched. Can't wait for the big screening on Thursday!!!

The First AICN Event at the ALAMO AT THE RITZ is Set! See THE MIST with Frank Darabont Live!!! We're going nuts on this one!

Hey folks, Harry here... Sometimes I'm so happy with how things work out. Originally we were working to get Frank Darabont and THE MIST here for the Opening of the RITZ last night (Spectacular night btw) but THE MIST isn't on FILM yet and the New Alamo doesn't get its Digital Projection set up till December. However on Thursday, November 8th, we're doing a super special crazy dinner inspired MIST screening of THE MIST with Frank Darabont there to introduce us into his latest foray into the dark, twisted and wonderful mind of Stephen King!!!

Thomas Jane wanders through THE MIST to find Tentacles, Bugs, Flying Batwinged Thing and Spiders... Oh My!

Hey folks, Harry here... I'm dying to see this film - The idea that Frank Darabont is making an honest to goodness CREATURE FEATURE has me thrilled. With GREEN MILE and SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION - he's made a pair of the best Stephen King adaptations - However, while I absolutely love those films - I love King's creature stories - his fear stories - his "things that go bump in the night" stories - and that's what THE MIST was all about. Things that go bump in the night. Can't wait - we don't have too long now!

Hey folks, Harry here.. this is weird - I got rid of these links hours ago, but then for some reason they've reappeared. Very odd. Anyways - The files that Fear.Net got were actually not official - and are in fact early versions of scenes that were not yet finished. I'm told that new and improved clips will be online shortly.

THE MIST makes for a spooky 27 x 41!!!

Hey folks, Harry here - perhaps the greatest disappointment as programmer of this year's Fantastic Fest - was the sad reality that THE MIST was not quite ready to be shown. The film wil basically be finished in two weeks - but not now. Sniffle. However, today the Yattering sent me a look at the latest one sheet for Darabont's latest Stephen King adaptation - which Moriarty (cocksucker) has already seen. For the rest of us, sniffle, let us look at the poster and dream of our time...

Moriarty Survives An Early Trip Into Frank Darabont’s THE MIST!

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.

If you had to make a list of the most influential television shows in history, I’m guessing TWILIGHT ZONE would be very, very near the top of that list. Rod Serling created the formula, but he worked with some amazing writers to create the series. Guys like Charles Beaumont, Richard Matheson, George Clayton Johnson, or Earl Hamner Jr. all contributed significantly to the show, helping to set a tone and perfect a style of storytelling that was predicated not just on twist endings that frequently blindside the audience, but that also depended on strong moral messages about the way we treat each other as human beings. There are so many writers who have grown up admiring that series, and I’m sure Stephen King counts himself among them.

THE MIST trailer is a tease that you'll want more and more and more from!

Hey folks Harry here - this is the number 1 - I need to see it as soon as humanly possible movie out there. The trailer looks great - only thing I'm not real big on is the logo at the end... but who the fuck cares about a damn logo. This is Frank Darabont directing Stephen King... ALWAYS FUCKING AWESOME... but this isn't subtle Stephen King... this is RIGHT SMACK UP THE SIDE OF YOUR FACE Stephen King and I can't wait to see that FRANK DARABONT!!!

See THE MIST in Glorious Quicktime!!!

Quint sees some footage from Frank Darabont's adaptation of Stephen King's THE MIST at Comic-Con!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I got one more little thing to talk about before I give up for the night.

I had to cut out of the first half of the Dimension panel in order to travel to and from an interview with Zack Snyder about WATCHMEN (currently being transcribed, so watch this page tomorrow for that one!).

Unfortunately, that means I missed out on the HALLOWEEN footage. I did get to hear Rob Zombie, Sheri Moon-Zombie, Tyler Mane and Scout-Taylor Compton talk a bit, but I think I missed most of the good stuff because they didn’t really go into the film itself too much. The Mist panel started off about 10 minutes after I got back.

Quint in THE MIST, Day 6!!!

DAY ONE!!!
DAY TWO!!!
DAY THREE!!!
DAY FOUR!!!
DAY FIVE!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a report from 2.2 (as Herc would say) of my set reports for Frank Darabont’s adaptation of STEPHEN KING’S THE MIST.

We’re back in the market this morning, picking up little bits of missed coverage, even moreso than yesterday. Yesterday they were getting complete sequences. I’m sure today they’ll get a few of those as well, but from what I’ve been overhearing it’s all about grabbing specific shots.

I say that, but the very first shots off today were of a complete scene. A small bit that happens the first night the folks are trapped in the market.

The scene had Bud (Robert C. Treveiler), Ollie (Toby Jones), David (Thomas Jane), Myron (David Jensen) and Jim (William Sadler), taking place just before dusk on their first day.

Jane had a quiet talk with Darabont before they started shooting, going over his character’s emotional state at this point. David has his son, Billy, with him, but he left his wife at home. Is she alright? Did she survive the coming of the mist? Is she hurt? Does she need his help? Can he get to her?

Jane said he thought after a few days he might accept, on some level, that she probably didn’t survive, but at this point, before the first night, he’d be a little distracted, irritated.; questions running through his mind.

Return of Quint's set reports from Stephen King's THE MIST!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with the first report from my return visit to the set of Stephen King’s THE MIST. I had four reports run from my last visit. You can read these by clicking on the following links:

DAY ONE!!!
DAY TWO!!!
DAY THREE!!!
DAY FOUR!!!

The drive to Shreveport from Austin was a bit more hectic this time around. The heavens were wide open and it was a rain-filled crazy drive that resulted in a very late arrival, just before 4am. The call time was 7am. Fuck sleep, eh? This is THE MIST!

Check out the newly updated version with a higher resolution and an added "Stephen King's" on THE MIST, which is the official title. STEPHEN KING'S THE MIST. It's at the link below!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. The good folks putting together THE MIST have another treat for you AICN readers. They're about to kick off a series of "webisodes," their own production diaries.

I'm not sure how regular the webisodes will be, but we know there's definitely one and you can view it below!

The first webisode takes place during the earthquake scene I talked about in my set reports. You'll also get a cameo appearance by a talented comic book artist and writer and glimpses of some of the characters.

Quint's Fourth and final day on the set of THE MIST!!! More pics!!!

CLICK HERE TO READ DAY ONE!!!

CLICK HERE TO READ DAY TWO!!!

CLICK HERE TO READ DAY THREE!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with my final report from the set of THE MIST. It’s already halfway through the day, the time has really flown by.

I just got back from lunch and over the next 20 minutes as the crew and cast trickle back in, I’ll be catching up on this report.

Firstly, at lunch I sat down at the table next to young Nathan Gamble. You might remember my Swear Jar story from Friday’s report. When I walked by his seat at lunch he got really excited and pointed at me. Then I hear words that no grown man wants to hear come out of a 9 year old’s mouth. “Mom, mom! That’s the man…” followed by, “ …that gave me two dollars yesterday.” And there was his mother, looking at me.

Kraken told me my face was beet red as I talked to the kid’s mother, who was all smiles about the situation. Phew… I thought I was in trouble for a moment.

When I first got here today they were setting up the scene, which again saw the Bread ‘n Cakes section, so video village and the guest and cast chairs were moved to aisle 7, next to all the sodas. A little more cramped.

Darabont sat next to me after he figured out the blocking and let the crew set up the lights. He said he really liked last night’s report, but wanted to correct something. I can’t count. I estimated 30-40 people, including the speaking cast, but there were actually 100 people in front of the cameras yesterday, 70 extras and 30 speaking cast. Now that’s corrected so I don’t have to worry about Darabont’s hired goons coming after me to set me straight. Here’s a pic of Friday’s crowd:

Quint on the set of THE MIST: Day 3!!! Carmody! Earthquake! And... Wanna see some pics from the set?

CLICK HERE TO READ DAY ONE!!!

CLICK HERE TO READ DAY TWO!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with Day 3, my second to last day on the set of Frank Darabont’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novella THE MIST.

I’m still in the hotel, about to head out to set, but I thought I’d address a couple questions I’ve gotten about the project. The most common seems to be in relation to Frank Darabont’s involvement in the special effects-heavy 2nd Unit, directed by Greg Nicotero.

Quint on the set of THE MIST: Day 2!! More gore! The coming of the mist! And much more!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here, once again reporting from the Bread ‘n Cakes section of The Food House on my second day here on the set of THE MIST.

I strongly advise checking out my Day 1 report if you haven’t already. I’m going to avoid repeating set description and character descriptions that I’ve already covered in Day 1, so if you haven’t read it and feel lost when reading… click here!!!

I arrived around 9:30am and immediately saw the tail end of yesterday’s scene put down. Once again it was two cameras, A & B in the supermarket. A camera is outside on the sidewalk looking into the grocery store through the glass windows and the open door. B camera was inside, on the people looking out the glass. Norm the bag boy was there as was Ollie, Amanda, Mrs. Carmody and the army boys.

Quint on the set of THE MIST: Day 1!!!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here, currently typing from the “Breads ‘n Cakes” section of The Food House in Shreveport, LA. Well, theoretically I’m somewhere in Maine.

This is my first of many days on the set of Frank Darabont’s adaptation of Stephen King’s incredible short story THE MIST. After a brief chat with Darabont and the Unit Publicist I have gotten the okay to write daily reports, so this is one of four potential reports and so far I’ve seen some great stuff.

I quickly found the set, across the street from a Casino no less, and made my way to the production office where I met with Juan, Darabont’s assistant, and Denise Huth, co-producer of THE MIST.
